Volume 3 Chapter 14 - The Seas Lament
The ocean stretched endlessly before them, a shimmering expanse of silver and blue under the dying sun. The waves sparkled like molten glass as Cindy and Puff stood upon the cliffs overlooking the western sea, the caravan of Undra's envoys gathered behind them.
The leader of the procession, the sea-clad knight, raised a staff shaped from coral and crystal. He struck it lightly against the sand, and the sea stirred as if answering a forgotten call.
"The tides recognize the Spirit Envoy," the knight declared solemnly. "The path to the Shrine of Depths shall open."
The ocean parted.
Water bent outward, curling like a great curtain being drawn aside. Beneath the retreating waves appeared a glowing descent — a stairway of light, spiraling deep into the watery abyss.
Cindy's wings shimmered faintly, and she turned to Puff. "Are you ready?"
Puff smirked softly, his silver eyes glowing. "Always."
Together, they stepped forward into the glowing descent — and the sea swallowed them whole.
?
The Kingdom Beneath the Waves
Warm, luminescent water surrounded them, yet they could breathe as easily as on land. Their bodies were enveloped in shimmering mana barriers — gifts from the oceanic envoys.
As they descended, the view unfolded before them like a dream.
Schools of radiant fish wove patterns of light through coral towers. Giant kelp forests swayed to unseen music. The ocean floor gleamed with the remnants of an ancient city — domes of pearl and crystal arches etched with runes that pulsed like beating hearts.
"The Kingdom of Undra," the envoy whispered reverently. "Where the Tides first learned to breathe."
Cindy's heart ached with awe. "It's beautiful..."
But Puff's ears twitched. His aura flared faintly. "Cindy—something's off."
?
The Stirring Beneath
The serene beauty shifted.
From the deeper shadows beyond the city's edge came a low hum, then a trembling that rippled through the sand.
The water grew heavy — dark — as if stained by smoke.
Then came the light.
Red. Pulsing. Wrong.
Cindy spun around, eyes widening. Deep within a trench, she saw crimson fissures splitting the seabed. Lava-like light poured out, churning the surrounding water into clouds of steam and ash.
Puff's voice echoed in her mind.
"Those aren't natural...!"
The envoy's coral staff glowed brightly as he shouted, "The corrupted fragments— they've awakened!"
?
The Corrupted Fire Beneath the Sea
From the fissures emerged fiery shapes — creatures made of molten stone and flame, burning even beneath the water. They roared without sound, their bodies warping the sea around them into boiling currents.
Each movement sent up bubbles of scarlet vapor that hissed like whispers.
The coral around them blackened and cracked. The once serene light of Undra's kingdom dimmed.
Cindy's wings burst open, scattering shimmering wind through the water. The bubbles spun around her in a protective vortex. "I'll contain the heat! Puff—drive them back!"
The Celestial Moonhare dashed forward, his silver aura trailing ribbons of moonlight. His strikes left trails of cool mana that extinguished flames upon contact. The corrupted creatures screeched as his power met theirs — moonlight clashing against fire.
"Spirit Art: Tidal Wind Barrier!" Cindy cried, raising her hands. A massive sphere of whirling current formed around the fissures, sealing the spreading corruption.
But even as she fought, she felt it — a deeper pulse beneath the sea.
The true fragment had not yet awakened.
?
The Voice of the Deep
The waters trembled again.
A column of light erupted from the ocean floor, blinding in its brilliance.
Through it rose a shape so vast and ancient that the very sea seemed to kneel — the Primordial Turtle, Undra.
Its shell bore the scars of age, encrusted with coral and glowing runes. Its eyes shone like twin blue suns, filled with calm power and deep sadness.
"Children of the Wind and Moon," the voice echoed through their hearts. "You arrive as the balance teeters once more."
Cindy bowed instinctively, her wings folding in reverence. "Undra... the fragments have spread to your domain."
"Aye... the fire seeks dominion where it should not exist."
"But its root is no longer mortal flame — it is will. Corruption born of envy."
Puff's aura shimmered with tension. "Then we'll burn that will away."
Undra's massive gaze turned toward him, a faint rumble of approval echoing like distant thunder.
"You bear the light of the moon, young hare. Your strength shall be tested soon."
The turtle's runes brightened. The boiling waters began to cool, the darkness retreating toward the trench.
?
A Cry for Balance
Just as calm began to return, the trench below erupted once more — a shockwave of molten light shooting upward.
Cindy and Puff were thrown back by the force, the water around them flashing red. Within the explosion of magma and flame, a silhouette took form — a serpentine shadow with burning eyes, chained by the faint remnants of Undra's mana.
Cindy's pulse raced. "It's the corrupted fragment..."
The shadow's roar shook the entire ocean.
Undra's eyes narrowed, his voice deep and sorrowful.
"And so it begins again... The Fire does not rest."
He turned his vast gaze toward Cindy and Puff.
"Brace yourselves, Envoy of Wind, Guardian of Moon. The sea will be your battlefield."
?
The corrupted serpent lunged, the water igniting in its wake.
Cindy spread her wings, wind and bubbles swirling like a tempest. Puff drew his spectral blade of moonlight, standing beside her.
And as their powers flared against the darkness, Undra's deep voice rumbled through the deep —
"Let the tides bear witness to balance once more."
