Volume 3 Chapter 20 - The Fall of the Herald

The battlefield burned like the end of the world.

Flames devoured the southern sky, casting the land in a crimson haze. Winds clashed with infernos, creating storms of fire and lightning that tore the clouds apart. The air itself screamed — a song of destruction and defiance.

Cindy hovered above the carnage, her Celestial Sylph Empress form blazing with radiant light.

Her wings shimmered like liquid crystal, scattering torrents of wind that cut through flame.

Beneath her, Puff fought like a silver comet, carving through molten beasts that surged endlessly from the volcanic rifts.

Then, the world shuddered.

From the inferno's heart rose the Herald of Flame, clad in burning armor that cracked and reformed with every step. His molten spear glowed white-hot, heat distorting the very air around him.

"Wind Empress!" he thundered, his voice echoing across the wasteland. "You delay the inevitable! The Fire Spirit will rise — whether you stand or fall!"

Cindy's expression hardened.

"Then you'll have to fall first."

?

Heaven and Inferno Collide

The moment their eyes met, the battlefield erupted.

The Herald lunged forward, spear trailing a pillar of molten fury. Cindy countered, sweeping her arm through the air — and a blade of wind shot forward, sharp enough to rend the earth.

The two forces collided, creating a blinding explosion that split the ground in two.

Cindy darted upward, her wings flaring as she summoned the winds to her command.

"Divine Art — Tempest Nova!"

A storm formed around her, a swirling sphere of condensed air that pulsed with silver light. She sent it crashing toward the Herald — but he roared, slamming his spear into the ground.

"Infernal Burst!"

A column of flame burst upward, devouring her attack in a violent explosion. The shockwave rippled for miles, flattening entire ridges.

Cindy twisted through the air, wings folding tight to cut through the shockwave.

Puff appeared beside her, his sword glowing lunar white.

"He's stronger than before. He's drawing power straight from the volcano!"

Cindy's gaze hardened. "Then we end this now — before he becomes unstoppable!"

?

The Herald's Fury

The Herald raised his spear skyward. The flames responded like a living creature, surging upward until the entire sky turned red.

"I am flame's chosen hand! I am the pyre that cleanses the weak!"

He hurled his spear forward — a bolt of molten death that tore through space itself.

Cindy raised both hands.

"Heaven's Barrier!"

A dome of translucent wind formed around her and Puff. The spear struck, sending cracks of molten energy across the barrier's surface — but Cindy held her ground, wind and will intertwining into divine resistance.

The barrier shattered in a thunderclap. Cindy fell, smoke rising from her arms, her breath ragged.

The Herald appeared before her in an instant, his burning hand gripping her throat.

"Even gods can fall to flame."

But then—

A crescent of silver light flashed across his chest.

Puff stood behind him, blade drawn, eyes blazing with lunar fury.

"Don't touch her!"

The strike sliced through molten armor, and for the first time, the Herald staggered. Steam hissed from the wound as molten blood splattered the ground.

Cindy broke free, spinning in midair. The wind gathered around her, swirling into a spear of radiant energy.

"This ends here!"

She hurled it straight through the Herald's chest.

The spear struck true.

?

The Fall of the Herald

The Herald froze — his body trembling as cracks spread across his molten armor. The flames within him flickered violently.

He laughed softly, voice warped and broken.

"You... think this... victory?"

Cindy hovered, wings spread wide, her expression both resolute and sorrowful.

"No. This is mercy."

The Herald raised his gaze to the sky — and smiled.

"Then... witness the truth of fire..."

His body burst into light. The ground split open as rivers of molten energy surged upward. A fiery sigil ignited beneath him, vast and ancient — a summoning mark drawn in divine flame.

Puff's eyes widened. "Cindy — move!"

Cindy pulled him close as the sigil exploded. The shockwave tore through the battlefield, scattering soldiers, wind, and fire alike.

From the heart of the eruption, a voice thundered — ancient, wrathful, divine.

"I... awaken."

?

The Fire Spirit Emerges

The volcano cracked open. Lava surged like blood through the earth, and from its core, a colossal figure began to rise — molten rock forming into scales, fire into flesh.

Wings of flame unfurled across the sky, each large enough to blot out the moon.

Eyes like twin suns opened within the inferno.

"Long have I slept beneath this world of ash and wind..."

The Herald's body disintegrated, his molten armor shattering into embers that flew toward the rising titan.

"And you..."

The Fire Spirit's gaze fell upon Cindy — burning with divine hatred.

"...you who bear the wind's blessing... you carry what was once mine."

Cindy's heart skipped a beat. The air around her grew scorching.

"You're... the Primordial of Fire."

The being's laughter shook the sky.

"Names are dust. I am the flame before creation — the pyre that will consume the heavens!"

Flames erupted across the land, forming rivers of molten destruction that cascaded toward the capital.

Cindy spread her wings, summoning every ounce of her power.

"Puff, get the people to safety! I'll hold him here!"

Puff's eyes widened. "Cindy, you can't—!"

"Go!" she shouted, her voice merging with the storm.

Wind roared across the battlefield, meeting the rising tide of flame. The two ancient forces clashed — air and fire, life and destruction — their collision tearing the night apart.

?

The Beginning of the Fire War

From afar, soldiers and mages watched in awe and terror as the sky itself burned.

Lightning split the clouds. The sea boiled. The volcano blazed brighter than the sun.

And in the midst of it all, Cindy — the Celestial Sylph Empress — stood alone against a god reborn.

The Fire Spirit's roar echoed across the world, and with it came the promise of ruin.

"The age of ash begins."
