Chapter Twenty Two

Brit

My heart pounded as I looked over my shoulder. Fly had gone straight into the shower when we'd returned, determined to wash the mud and damp off his arms. He'd done a thorough job of ruining my clothes so they looked like they'd been on a dead body.

A man had met us at the car park and taken the clothes away, ready to do his magic. I wasn't convinced that he could fake such a huge discovery, especially considering there'd been nothing on the news about a body being found. Usually, there were pictures of police tents or something similar.

I shuddered as I shoved my new hoody that Alia had given me into the duffel.

If my father came after Fly and saw me, everything would be ruined.

At least if I went to the shelter with Audrey, I would be hidden with plenty of security.

I’d persuade them to take me back. The men were hungry for revenge and I didn't want to get in the way of that.

Sighing, I listened near the wall, grabbing the duffel up when I heard the shower still running. Good, he was still busy getting clean. It was the perfect time to make an exit. Even if he came looking for me, I'd tell the security team not to let him in.

A sadness crept over me as I left the bedroom, shoes in hand and hurried to the door. I put my duffel on the floor and quickly pulled them on, holding my breath until they were in place and I was reaching for the handle.

“Brit?” He appeared in the archway wearing nothing but a towel and dripping water. I cried out and surged from the apartment, panicking at being caught. I only made it to the top stair when he grabbed me from behind, tugging me to his wet body.

“Let me go,” I said, fighting him. “I'm a hindrance to you.”

He tried to hold me tight as I squirmed, managing to slip out of his wet grip. My feet were down two steps before he caught me under both arms and hoisted me up, reversing me back up and then maneuvering me down the hall.

The others must have heard our commotion, but they left us to it, no doubt trusting Fly to take care of it.

“Stop fighting,” he snapped, shoving me against the wall just outside his front door. “Why are you running?”

I pushed against him, trying to get out of his grip.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and hoisted me up, putting me over his shoulder.

My head was hovering over the stair banister precariously.

I tried to fight, but he tipped me back, laughing when I screeched.

Forcing me through the front door by carrying me, he slammed it shut behind him, dumping me on the floor.

I wriggled past him, aiming for the escape again, except he caught me and threw me on the kitchen counter, pushing me back so far, I lay on the cold surface with my legs hanging off.

“What are you…?”

My sentence trailed off when he climbed up and leaned over me, bringing his head close to mine. “Stop fucking fighting me, woman! Why do you want to leave?”

The tingles in my body increased when he put his weight on me, staring angrily into my eyes.

I tried to ignore the pulse between my legs, determined not to let his gorgeousness entice me.

He had told me in no uncertain terms that he wanted a clear head and I had to agree.

Except, I couldn't stop thinking about him and his touch. It was driving me insane.

“I can't stay here with you,” I sighed, my heart thumping, “because it's torture knowing that you're right next door. I know you said we had to stay friends, but… I'm not sure I can.”

“You want to leave because you think I won't touch you?” His voice was tight. “Oh, sweetheart, you're all I crave and it's only the door that's stopping me. Open it and I'll willingly comply.”

“It's too dangerous.” I pushed his shoulders, trying to dislodge him.

He groaned and rested his arms on each side of my head before lowering his face to mine. “Will you please stop resisting, I will not let you leave. I promised to-”

“Yeah, yeah,” I spat, “You promised to protect me, but I promised myself that I would not let you get killed because of me. I need to go!”

Sitting up as hard as I could, I smacked him straight in the nose with my forehead. Pain shot through my skull as he groaned and pinned me with his hands, his eyes wide.

I started to apologize, but before I could, his mouth was on mine, kissing me roughly. I breathed loudly as his tongue shoved its way into my mouth and his teeth nipped my lower lip. When I tried to resist, he held onto my wrists, pinning them against the island.

His hips were pressed against mine, his hard cock rubbing me. I unfurled under him, unable to move, unable to stop him. Did I want to?

Our mouths were dancing; our lips heated from the kisses. I could've screamed, should've screamed, to draw someone's attention, but when Fly's hand slipped between us and kneaded my tits, I gave in. I couldn't prevent what he was about to do and my pussy gushed from it.

He didn't release my mouth or allow me to talk as he pulled at my jeans, slipping them down enough for him to get access. His hand was on my pussy, his fingers slipping inside me, pumping, one, two, three. I inhaled air through my nose and moaned, feeling how wet I was as he fingered me.

He grabbed the back of my head with his free hand, holding me up while we kissed. My arms seized the counter as he tugged my jeans down. I lifted myself so he could pull them off, dropping them on the floor.

His hand released my head as he gripped me under my bare thigh, lifted it and pushed his cock inside me, his lips glued to mine. I groaned, long and low as he held my wrist again, forcing me to take him.

My eyes snapped open and our gazes met. Sparks flew through me as we watched one another, our tongues dancing. I could barely breathe as he pulled out and thrust back in, fast and rough. I rocked on the island, my buttocks hammering against the cold surface as he entered me, over and over.

My pleasure started to build as he moaned and bit my top lip, dragging it towards him. His pelvic bone rubbed my clit, hitting it again and again. The tingles rose and I couldn't breathe, let alone kiss. He finally let go of my mouth as he pounded me, his cock hitting me so so deep.

The orgasm crested and waves pulsed out from my core, making me rigid.

A scream wrenched from my throat and he put a hand around my neck, squeezing the sound away.

His dominance only heightened my orgasm and it came again, shaking me so violently, he had to hold my hips to plunge one last time.

Finally he stilled, his mouth stretched open in a silent primal cry.

As the pleasure died down, he collapsed on top of me, his chest heaving. My own breathing was labored as I lay still, completely and utterly drained from everything. My body hummed with a glorious vibration and I reached up to stroke his head, which was buried in my neck.

“When this is all done,” I whispered, wiggling against him, “Will you leave me to live my life?”

A pained expression creased his eyes when he lifted his head to look at me. “I should.”

“Why?” My heart was pounding for a completely different reason now.

“Because I'm damaged goods. I can sense that you…” He paused.

“Have feelings?” My voice was barely above a whisper.

“Exactly. And, although I crave you, I don't think I can give you what you want.” He stroked my damp hair from my forehead. “You deserve someone who can give you his heart.”

“And that’s not you?”

He shook his head no, a hard look coming to rest over his face.

“Was it the ceremonies? Did they mess you up? They would've screwed with my head if I'd seen them so young.”

Lifting his head, he looked me in the eyes. “It was the hours and hours of watching him rape women as punishment when we got forced to go to the compound. A thirteen-year-old’s mind is vulnerable at that point. It changed every one of us.”

Swallowing the bile that rose in my throat, I closed my eyes. Grief flooded through me as Fly climbed off the counter, cursing when he glanced down at his leg. Shit, had he injured it more while having sex with me?

“I'm sorry,” I got up hurriedly, pulling on my clothes and trying to make myself presentable. “I didn't know he did that, I… should've known.”

He picked up his towel and wrapped it around his waist before looking over his shoulder at me. “No, you shouldn't have had to know, not even now. I'd love you to be safe from his darkest secrets. It feels like I'm tainting you.”

Going to him, I placed a hand on his arm. He looked down at it, his jaw clenching as his eyes grew hooded.

“You're not tainting me,” I whispered. “You're waking me up. I've never felt so alive, even with the pain of everything Chad did. I have to know it all so I can take him down.”

“He's not the only evil one though.” He stepped away and my arm fell. “We've done things that you would be shocked at.”

I shook my head. “Nothing you've done will ever harm my opinion of you. You saved me, not only from him, but from myself.”

He stared at the floor, his energy heavy. I wanted to soothe it away, to erase all the damage he'd endured. But when he lifted his gaze to look at me, it was closed, guarded.

“We killed someone,” he said shakily, “at the compound. To cover up for Chad. So, you see, I'm not all innocent and that's why your father isn't afraid of me ratting him out. He can take us down with him just as easily as we can destroy his life.”

My mouth gaped open. Did he just say that he'd killed someone for Chad? I understood getting revenge, hell I wanted to shoot Chad for what he'd done to all those people, but… Fly?

“He must have forced you,” I said, avoiding his gaze.

He shook his head.

“Or blackmailed you?”

Again, his head shook.

“Then why?” I barked.

Lifting one shoulder in a shrug, he stared at me. “Because he offered us a deal. Kill the boy who was feeding stories to the press and we got to skip the ceremonies. And we did it, because we were selfish and wanted out.”

I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, releasing my breath in a rush. I'd been sleeping with a murderer, one who had been looking out for himself all along.

“Not long after.” Fly dropped his gaze again. “We escaped, anyway. So, his death was pointless. You see… you're right about one thing.”

“What's that?” I said quietly.

“You're better off out of here.” He faced away from me. “Please, just leave.”
