Cazmir #5
The kid sounded excited as hell. Honestly, I couldn’t blame him.
An opportunity like this would’ve had me feeling the same way at his age.
We agreed to have him report to the office first thing in the morning so I could personally walk him through the building and introduce him to the leadership team.
By the time the call ended, I felt even better about the decision we’d made bringing him on.
Now all I needed was a drink. A strong one.
Because between family secrets, Bree getting on my nerves, my father spiraling, Kade threatening my life, and Yayo looking for reasons to commit felonies, a nigga had officially earned one.
I called my godfather, but the call went straight to voicemail.
That alone was enough to tell me something was off.
Pops always answered my calls unless he was tied up in something serious, and considering everything that had happened over the last twenty-four hours, serious seemed to be the theme of the week.
Deciding not to waste time, I packed up my briefcase, wrapped up the last few things on my desk, and headed out.
By the time I made it to the club, employees were already moving around getting everything ready for the doors to open.
Bartenders stocked liquor. Security walked their routes.
DJ's tested equipment. The place had a rhythm to it long before customers ever stepped foot inside, and after spending enough time around Majeston, I understood why.
He ran every business he touched the same way. With organized chaos.
Trekking upstairs toward his office, I was halfway down the hallway when I heard his voice through the cracked door.
“I don’t give a fuck. Find her ass. This is my fucking city. Ain’t nowhere she can go where I can’t find her. Don’t call me back unless you got answers.” The line went dead.
Well damn. At that point I figured I might as well make my presence known before he started shooting at shadows.
“What’s up Pops?”
“Same shit. Different day.” He barely looked up.
“What you doing here?”
“Nigga needed a drink. Thought I’d stop by.”
I shook his hand before walking over to the mini bar and pouring myself something strong. Taking a seat across from him, I noticed the irritation radiating off him. Whatever was going on had him wound tighter than usual.
“What was that about?”
“My wife wanna wage war so bad, she brought an army of men down here. Now she playing hide and go seek and shit. When I find her ass, I swear.”
“Man, it sound like that woman on the same shit. Fucking with y’all, it’s gone be a bloodbath in this city.”
“Y’all?” He frowned.
“Yeah, y’all.”
“Nigga, I ain’t trying to go to war with nobody but the muthafucka who thought he could play with my kids lives.”
Something about the way he said it made my chest tighten.
It wasn’t jealousy or resentment. It was something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
I wasn’t used to seeing Majeston go this hard for people.
I understood why he cared about Ysis and Isaiah now, but there was a level of intensity behind it that still caught me off guard every time I saw it.
The feeling passed as quickly as it came and I pushed it aside.
“Yes, y’all. It’s too much going on and I think I speak for all of us when I say we done with the bullshit. Y’all old heads need to get it together.” That got his attention.
I spent the next several minutes telling him everything that happened at Kade’s house.
Purposely leaving out Yuki showing up at my spot.
I was alot of things but stupid wasn't one of them.
I liked talking, and I also liked having a tongue.
I'd seen enough in her eyes to know she would make good on her promise if pushed, and I was in no mood to be on Yuki's list of hitters.
However, the more I talked, the darker his expression became.
By the time I finished, he sat there staring at me in complete silence.
Then he took a long pull from his drink.
“Nigga, you went against me and your pops?” The question came out so calm it put me on alert.
“I didn’t go against nobody. I told the truth.
You know secrets ain’t never been my thing.
I’m surprised I held this shit in as long as I did.
” That was only part of the truth. The other part stayed locked away.
Because if he found out Bree knew about all this before the reveal, and that she had been sitting on information connected to his best friends and Marius, he would absolutely lose his shit.
“Does your father know?”
“Not yet. But I plan on telling him.”
“I think you’ve done enough.” His tone left no room for interpretation. The conversation was over. He stood from behind the desk, grabbed his keys, and headed toward the door.
“I’ll take it from here. You stay out the way and continue doing the job he hired you to do.” I watched him leave without another word. I knew he was pissed. Hell, a blind man could’ve figured out he was pissed. But whatever, everybody was pissed these days.
From the club I went home, took a shower, crawled into bed, and shut the world out. Between family secrets, business responsibilities, angry girlfriends, fathers, and billionaires, a nigga was running on fumes. I rolled over, closed my eyes, and welcomed the darkness. A nigga was beyond over it.
