Chapter 46Evan

Chapter Forty-Six

EVAN

M y eyes slowly open as I hear someone moving around beside me. Blinking away the fogginess, I look around at what looks like a makeshift hospital room.

“You’re awake,” a man I have never seen before says from the left corner of the room. He is wearing a white lab coat, but I can still see the tattoos on his neck peeking out from it. He looks pretty clean-cut, minus the tattoos and ruffled hair. His glasses make him look a lot younger than he probably is, almost giving him an innocence. “I’m Doc.”

“Where am I?” My voice comes out hoarse. I wince at the sound. My throat feels like I swallowed a bunch of sand.

“Oh shit. My bad. I probably should have started with that, huh?” He cringes before grabbing me a cup of water and bringing it over. “You’re at the clubhouse. Prez should be here soon. He was just tying up some loose ends. Drink that slowly. Baby sips.”

Loose ends, as in the guys that kidnapped me and hurt Levi.

“Is Levi okay?” I ask after taking a sip.

“He’s good. His head will be sore for a while. They knocked him out from behind. His ego is a little bruised, but what are you going to do?” Doc shrugs before looking back at my chart as if dealing with something like this is a normal occurrence for him.

“Are you a member of the club?” I have never seen this man in my life, and I am pretty sure I have met everyone over the last few months.

“You can say that. I’m their resident doctor, and I like to ride in my free time. That’s about as far as that goes.”

Huh. I guess that makes sense. You can’t have shit reported if you’re also doing something illegal. Cain has just never mentioned him.

“What’s the damage?” I ask while holding up my arm, which currently has an IV in it.

“You have a mild concussion, which I’m assuming is from when they knocked you out as well. Your ribs, luckily, aren’t broken, just severely bruised. They’re going to be really sore for a while. Smoke inhalation did your throat in, but keep pushing the fluids, and you’ll be good as new. Take some ibuprofen. If you feel that you need something stronger or have any questions or concerns, I’ll leave my card.” He just finished explaining before Cain bursts in through the door.

“Fuck, hellcat,” Cain breathes as he rushes over to me.

“I’m okay.” I wince again from the sound of my voice. Apparently, water isn’t going to be my cure-all for that. “Thank you for coming for me.”

“I’ll always come for you,” Cain says while lightly caressing my cheek as he sits on the side of the bed. “They paid for touching you.” His tone turns deadly as he looks me over. “How is she?”

“She’s fine. Nothing’s broken. I do want you to keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours. Her concussion is mild, but if you notice her getting very disoriented and vomiting, bring her in because I’ll want to do some tests. Otherwise, just a little R&R.” Doc winks.

“You want to take a bath with one of your bath dicks?”

I never thought I would laugh after the recent events, but here I am. The fact that he knows exactly what I need without me having to tell him is more than I could ever ask for. Some people search their whole lives for the type of connection we have.

“Yeah.” I smile at him. “I’d like to take a dick bath with you.”
