CHAPTER 14
LUCY
And you're sure you want to be here tonight?” Sasha was trying to best to be supportive after my phone call with Dr Lynn, but it was awkward. I didn't even know how to feel, or if there was even a right way to feel.
“Oh yeah, I don't want to wallow. I want to see you play.” I really didn't want to go into a dark hole with worry when there was nothing I could do at the very moment.
“OK. You'll be seated next to Colton's wife, Nina. I've talked to her the most at the team breakfasts and stuff. She's really smart. You'll be able to pick her out because you both have the same hair.” Sasha kissed me on the head and pat me on the ass before he was about to leave for warm up.
“Wait. You sat me in the WAGS section?” I cringed.
“Yeah, why isn't that good?” He scratched his head.
“Have you ever sat a girl in that section?” Sweat started to percolated at my hairline.
“Well, no.” He got close and whispered in my ear. “You know you're my first in a long time.” His breath made the hair on my neck stand up.
“There is like a hierarchy to these women. You just sent me to the wolves.” My eyes bugged out.
Sasha gave me a little smirk and, damn him, it was adorable. “Good thing you know how to howl, Lucifer. Don't punch anyone with a name on their sweater or a ring on their finger, OK?”
“Oh, you think your real fucking funny, Sarge.”
His eyebrows lowered over his eyes, turning the blue stormy and sexy. “That mouth.” He kissed me in the hall, biting my bottom lip and watching my eyes as he pulled on it with his teeth. “I trust Nina to keep you company. I didn't throw you to the wolves.”
“To the bitches then.” I crossed my arms over the black v-neck t shirt Sasha let me borrow. It was a little loose, but paired with my jacket and little black flats it still looked cute. I was able to fix my hair and put on some eyes and a hit of lip gloss and I was confident.
“I'm sorry.” He kissed me again. “But I'm happy you're here. Now go.” He slapped my ass and turned to run down the hall.
I found my seat easily. And I was happy and thankful I was there. It was the perfect place to be to occupy my mind from my news. Fibroid who? I didn't know the bitch tonight. Tonight, I knew cold beers and hot dogs and Sasha. And everything felt alright.
I was alone in the section, five rows back from the glass.
I could only imagine the WAGS in a different section getting drinks or showing up late altogether.
I didn't want to judge them, I'm sure they were very nice.
If anything, I pitied them. No matter who they were, they gave up their lives during the hockey season.
That takes guts and a certain kind of woman I didn't know if I could be.
I really didn't know if I could do that.
How could I run a business and a household?
What if he got traded to a different state and I had to leave my family and my house?
My stomach soured, but I pushed the thought away as quickly as it came.
We were one orgasm in, that didn't equate to wedding bells and kids and having to give up my life for him.
Because that was what a WAG did. No, I definitely wasn't thinking about that right now.
I slouched in my seat and took out my phone.
Me: I have to get surgery on my fibroids, plural, large, bitches.
Sarah: Shit that sucks. Did you have sex yet?
Me: Did you hear what I just said? They are going to cut me open and pull shit out of my body.
Sarah: Stop being so dramatic, they do it all the time. DID YOU GET LAID??
Me: No, and I won't be because it will cause me pain according to Dr Lynn BECAUSE OF THE FIbrOIDS!
Sarah: Oh shit, that sucks.
Me: Yeah, but I did orgasm....hard.
Sarah: Thank the Lord. Maybe you'll relax a little now.
Me: Unlikely. I think being strung tight is just my thing. Watching the game now.
I placed my phone in my pocket and started to people watch. It was the first time the ice didn't have some sad hold over me. I was excited to see Sasha, my man, skate out onto it and play hard. The memory of my father didn't prevent me from enjoying the cold and smelling that fresh ice.
“Come on girls we are going to miss warm up. I want to make sure Brennan sees me at the glass.”
A group of four gorgeous women, perfectly polished and dressed to impress, sauntered down the steps into their seats three rows in front of me.
They giggled and fixed each others necklaces and texted furiously.
They placed their feet up on the chairs in front of them and had an air that they owned the place.
Oof, they made me want to run. But they were a part of hockey just like the players themselves.
These were the women who held down the fort and held up their men so they could skate and win.
Without the WAGS the hot hockey players would just be frat boys with ice skates.
Running wild and tearing down whole cities. Women beware.
I wouldn't fit in with that crowd that's for sure.
Practice had begun and I scanned the ice for Sasha. I had only seen him skate from far away and countless videos, but this was different. In the rink you could feel the excitement of the crowds, the anticipation of what was to come. People wanted their Pucks to win. My dad would have loved this.
The women in front stood up and started to wave.
They saw their guys on the ice and their guys saw them.
I saw Sasha step out onto the ice and my chest got this fluttering feeling.
He looked good in the colors. He looked strong and fast like he belonged out there.
He better be after what I missed out on.
My heart dropped. Thankfully I missed out on it. I couldn't imagine the sheering pain I would have felt if we did what I wanted to do. Maybe I owe hockey an apology. Maybe hockey finally did me a solid.
Sasha and the rest of the team skated around the ice.
They stretched in precarious positions to loosen their muscles and shot pucks into the net.
Sasha had some words with guys from the opposite team as each team circled like vultures on their half of the rink.
The players interacted with fans and when the warm up was done, the loved up skaters came over to the WAGS section.
They tapped on the glass and blew kisses to their girls.
They waved at kids and drew hearts in the fog they huffed onto the glass.
For a moment I didn't think Sasha would come over.
Maybe he didn't want to make trouble for me or maybe he was there for his job and not to socialize.
I didn't yet know his rituals as we were so new.
It only bothered me that he stayed away until I saw him skate towards the glass.
Relief finally wrapping around me like a warm blanket.
What should I do? Do I run up to him? Flash him? Scream his name to claim him as my own? No, I shuddered. I didn't have it in me to publicity claim any man. I just expected my man to act like he belonged to me at all times. That was his job, not mine to enforce.
When he skated to the glass I simply smiled and waved. But I could feel a traitorous blush creep to my face when I was trying to play it cool.
Sasha tapped the glass with his glove and pointed at me. This made the WAGS turn so quickly I saw various shades of blond strands whip out and around their head like horse tails swatting at flies. I avoided eye contact with them and kept smiling at Sasha.
He didn't motion for me to come down, but he made sure I saw him then lifted his helmet just a bit and opened his mouth.
There was a piece of a candy cane, bright red and white, just sitting on his tongue.
He pointed at me again to make sure I understood what he was trying to tell me. I almost lost it.
A fucking candy cane. How was it possible a dollars worth of pure sugar and red food coloring made me swoon, made me hot, would have made me drop my pants on the ice if fifteen thousand people weren't around?
The best part was that I didn't even give him any.
They were still in my purse. Which meant he went out and bought himself some just from the thought of me, days ago.
I reached a hand into my purse and pulled out a cane, snapped off the tip and placed it in my mouth.
Once Sasha saw me do this, he nodded his head and pointed at me like I was doing exactly what he wanted. Not only did he want me to watch him, but he wanted the thought of him connected to my mouth the entire game. And vice versa. He had that candy behind his lips just like I did.
The fucking freak.
Heat crawled up my spine. Even though I had orgasmed a few hours ago, the urge to please him rose up in me like never before. I was hot. I was aroused. I would have to think of very creative ways to satisfy this need with Sasha, because it wasn't going away.
He skated away soon after that. The team moved to the doors that led down the hall and straight into the locker rooms. Would he talk about me? Would the team rag on him for the candy cane, our candy cane?
More and more people started to file into the arena. The volume was deafening with the music and fans and anticipation. People cheered and hung signs. Drinks sloshed and the hum grew with every passing moment.
“So, you're the Sarge's new thing?” A high voice clearly directed the question to me.
“Excuse me?” I looked her up and down, making assessments.
Thing? I could feel my temper rise in my throat.
This was it, my introduction to the WAG world.
I couldn't say it started off on the right foot considering how I was being described.
Nina nowhere in sight, I was truly on my own in the stands.
Sasha wasn't here to be of service. I had to do everything in my power to keep calm and smile and not fuck anything up for him.
“Oh, you know what I mean. I saw a picture of the two of you on Insta the other night.” She smiled so big I thought her makeup would crack under the pressure.
