Chapter 14
CHAPTER 14
L uc drove back to his apartment, unable to wipe the smile from his face. Damn, Charlie was one amazing woman. Smart, feisty, and a bona fide goddess in the sack. It had taken every ounce of his willpower to leave when all he’d wanted to do was stay and make love to her until neither of them could stand straight.
He’d never been with a woman as beautiful or responsive as Charlie. She took life head on, full charge in everything she did. During each interaction they’d had, she’d never been afraid to speak her mind, call him out. The woman didn’t hide. She presented herself to the world and dared it to dislike her. He had to admit, he envied that about her. Luc wished he could be as confident in his own self-worth as Charlie appeared to be.
He’d hoped that brashness carried over to the bedroom and he had not been disappointed. Just as in every aspect of her life, Charlie put her everything into lovemaking.
Sex. It was just sex.
Right, he had to remember that. They were just scratching a mutual itch. A no-strings-attached affair. Odd for him. He’d always been a relationship kind of guy. Not many, given his family history, but he was never one to engage in one-night-stands. And he certainly didn’t engage in any romantic relationships with people he worked with. He didn’t blur lines like that. Luc Woolf played by the rules.
Or…he had. Until now.
What he and Charlie had done didn’t technically break any rules, she wasn’t his patient so there were no ethical concerns regarding his license. All he had to do was mark her attendance in class. The course work she had to fill out for the judge’s requirement was all done online and not under his purview .
But if anyone at the hospital found out…it could create problems. He thought. Honestly, he was coming to find small towns were very different from the city. Everyone knew each other, had connections. Rules were different here. Still, he didn’t want to do anything to put Charlie or himself in any kind of hot spot. He should have said no to her proposal, but he hadn’t been able to.
For once he’d taken something for himself. Just one thing that belonged to him and him alone. When had he ever done something simply for himself? Never? Even his career as a therapist had been a way to pay back the man who saved him from a life of crime. He loved his job—don’t get him wrong—helping people, made him feel like he was contributing to something bigger than himself.
But Charlie…this thing with her had no bearing on anything in his life. He wanted her, she wanted him.
Simple.
Instinctual.
Right.
His smile widened as his mind replayed the night. They were dynamite together. Red-hot explosive. And he was determined to enjoy it for as long as it lasted. He just hoped it wouldn’t all blow up in his face.
