Splash,
So I have to be honest here—even after a few letters, I can tell you’re amazing.
But your last letter highlighted some serious no-go areas.
We can’t talk about delicious food, and we can’t talk about big beds…
am I right? If so, we should probably stop talking altogether!
I mean, that’s all I have going for me in my life right now: good food and a good bed.
Unfortunately, I have no one to share either of them with.
Coming home to an empty house that’s too big is the absolute worst. I have this amazing life on paper, but I’m lonely, Splash.
I really want someone to share the quiet mornings and the big moments with.
I’m tired of being the only one sitting at my king-size table.
Listen, I don’t feel like I can be myself around anyone here. That’s a massive reason why I started writing to you. I want to be able to be completely myself around at least one person in my life, even if they are miles away and we might never meet, but god do I hope that we can meet!
With that in mind, I promise to always be honest with you.
So there’s something I want to tell you, I’m gay.
It’s not a secret in my life; my parents were incredibly supportive when I came out, and I couldn’t have asked for better people around me.
I’m telling you this because I want you to know the real me, and I hope you don’t mind the disclosure.
If you do, then I guess you’ve just broken my heart.
I was kinda hoping there was a sexy soldier at the end of these letters.
When I signed up, the coordinator mentioned that some personnel don’t have anyone writing to them.
I assume no family, then? That’s my question for you.
My parents are currently living their best retired life in Vegas.
They support me in absolutely everything I do, sometimes a little too much.
Even with them, it feels like I’m entirely on my own, and at the fine old age of 26, it’s a bit depressing, to be honest.
I get the need to just close your eyes and breathe. More than you know.
Jackson
PS — I’ve only just been told I can send you things… so here is the first of many… Enjoy the cookies, soldier. I got them from Vegas.
