19. Chapter Nineteen
Chapter Nineteen
Carver
I’ve always been jealous of Carson and Cole. I’ve never had anyone I could count on the way these two do.
Another one of the things the universe royally fucked up on. We should have all been born with a twin. It would make life a hell of a lot easier.
Or at least that’s what I always thought, but watching him over the past several days has me rethinking things. I see now how being that close to someone could come at a cost.
He’s miserable.
“Why don’t you just answer his fucking calls?”
“So I can listen to him go on and on about what a wonderful time he and Luna are having in Ireland?” He rolls his eyes, and honestly, I have to laugh a little.
“You want to know, don’t you?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Why would I?”
He’s being difficult, so I pick up my phone and text Carson.
“Who are you texting?”
“Carson.”
“What? Why?” He sits up and tries to take the phone out of my hand.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I ask, leaning back on my bed to get away from him.
He falls back on his, giving up way too easily.
“Just so we’re clear, I’m loyal to your dumbasses equally.”
Carson instantly replies with a thank you.
Me: Find any leprechauns yet?
Carson: No, but I found his fucking pot of gold.
I laugh out loud and Cole looks over at me. “What?”
“You didn’t want to know,” I tell him, shoving my phone under my pillow and lying down.
“I don’t.”
He sighs after several long minutes.
“He didn’t have any problems getting there?”
“Doesn’t sound like it.”
He stares up at the ceiling and honestly, I feel bad for him.
“We should get out of here,” I tell him.
There’s not much we can do here. Shortly after arriving, we watched the feds pick up our guy. Someone is onto us. That’s the name of the game. The bad guys will keep you on their team until you’re no longer useful or compromised. That fucker is probably both.
“I’m not ready to go back.”
I pull the photo of Nyx and her sister out of my pocket. “I never said we should go back.”
Cole looks at the photograph and then at me. “Please tell me you’re not thinking about going after those women.”
“One of them.”
“Not you too.”
I smile.
He groans. “Whatever you’re planning, I’m not going against the club.”
“What if I get permission from the dark queen?”
“If Jesse agrees, I’ll go.”
Good enough for me.
