Cathal Chapter 17 #2
“What were you told you were going to do when you got to Florida?” Ciaran asked.
“They said we were coming here to take out a bunch of rich assholes who thought they were tough but had no idea how to take care of themselves. And even though you had guards, they were pussies who only thought they were tough,” Red admitted.
“Did you hear that? We’re assholes, and you guys are pussies,” Rory chuckled as he winked at our guards.
“I guess if pussies like us took them out, then that makes them what, double-pussies? Pussies without brains?” Daniel asked, snickering.
“So they didn’t tell you exactly who the rich assholes were?” Alistair asked.
“No, they didn’t, only that they were outside of St. Augustine, Florida,” Blondie agreed.
“How did you get here? Coming all that way in those cramped SUVs would take a long ass time,” Fallon remarked.
“We broke up the ride over a few days. They sent us down here a week ago. We were told to lie low and to stay away from your place until we were given the green light,” Red stated.
“Which one of you shot up an airfield outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and ran a woman off the road in Tallahassee a month ago?” I asked. I was hoping they were part of the bunch who did either of those things.
“That wasn’t us. But two small groups from the farm were sent out.
One went to New Mexico and the other to Tallahassee.
I know because we overheard them talking after they came back.
We’re not supposed to talk about our missions, not even among each other, but you know that shit happens,” Blondie confessed.
“What did they say about those missions?” Alistair asked.
“The one in Tallahassee was three guys. They were pissed that they got word afterward that the target, some woman, lived and wasn’t severely hurt.
They wanted to go after her again. The group that went to New Mexico hit a guy and his men getting on a private plane.
They prevented the plane from leaving, but the men got away.
They couldn’t be sure if they shot any of them.
However, two of the six men sent on that mission were shot, and their bodies had to be dumped before the remainder of them came back,” Red said softly.
“Did they know who the man or woman was?” Owen asked.
They shook their heads.
“Do you know who these men are?” Alistair asked, pointing to my brother, cousins, and me.
Red shook his head. Blondie nodded as he spoke. “Yeah, I do. I didn’t until after we were brought here and I saw your faces. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come. We should’ve never answered that goddamn ad,” he muttered.
“Who the hell are they?” his redhead buddy asked.
“We’re the O’Sheeran family. You may have heard of us. We’re quite well known in some circles,” Rory informed him.
“O’Sheeran? What circle?” Red asked, still mystified.
“They’re the fucking Irish Mafia, dumb ass! Don’t you ever read or watch television? They’re the biggest Irish Mafia family in the US. Christ, we fucked ourselves royally,” Blondie snapped.
“You have. And to add to it, the guy that your coworkers tried to shoot in New Mexico was the leader of the Bragan Mafia, another Irish family. And the woman, she was Bragan’s daughter and the woman I married less than twelve hours ago,” I growled.
Both men groaned loudly and hung their heads in defeat.
“You said you don’t know the big boss’s name. We need the names of anyone else who was at that farm. And we want the address of the warehouse in Detroit and the farm in Milford,” Alistair demanded.
It was anticlimactic with these two. They explained they only ever knew the other men by first names. They’d been instructed not to share personal information. No doubt for this purpose, so if captured, they couldn’t betray the others. They did give up the address of the warehouse and the farm.
While the others kept asking more questions, just to see if they knew something they weren’t telling us or had forgotten, I sent off the addresses to Darragh.
He’d get them to Cody, who would have his team look into finding everything they could on them.
The other information they requested from the two men was the site where they found the ad.
It was passed along, too. It was on the Dark Web, a place Cody knew too well from his work.
Thirty-five minutes later, Alistair called it quits.
“Alright, there’s nothing else they can give us.
Since you boys have been forthcoming, we’ll let you choose how you want to go out.
You can let us shoot you in the head, and as long as we shoot you in the right spot, it means instant death.
Or we can break your necks, but if we don’t do it perfectly, you could take a few minutes to die.
However, I do have the touch. Lots of training.
And the last option is to sever the brainstem with a knife at the base of your posterior neck. Your choice,” Alistair informed them.
Neither man said anything for a few beats, then Red sighed. “Shoot me, but I don’t want to see it coming.”
“I want the same,” Blondie tacked on,
While they contemplated, they’d studied Alistair.
They never noticed Nolan and Fionn moving closer.
As soon as they made their choice, the two captives closed their eyes.
Alistair gave a single nod, and both guards took out their guns and shot them execution style.
They were perfect shots at close range. Their deaths were immediate.
Their bodies went lax and tumbled sideways to the ground.
The third man from the SUV, a bald man in his late thirties, glanced at his men, then turned away and stared into the darkness again. His stoicism wouldn’t last. Alistair would make sure of it.
“He thinks he’s tough,” Declan remarked, snorting.
“They always do until they’re proven wrong,” Conor added.
Alistair stepped closer to the man, still kneeling. His legs had to be killing him. Nolan had positioned himself behind Baldie. At Alistair’s chin lift, Nolan removed the gag and then walked off.
“We know you were the one sent to lead this pathetic crew of yours. We know where your farm and warehouse are. What we need are the actual names of your boss or bosses. Tell us what the ultimate goal is to come against the Bragans and us? Why come here today?” Alistair asked the last prisoner.
Baldie sneered as he answered. “I’m not telling you anything.
Those two were weak. The others were fools.
I’m not. But I can tell you that you’ll all regret touching us.
Your demise is coming. The days of fearing the once-strong Bragan Mafia and the almighty O’Sheeran family are ending.
You’ll prevent a lot of bloodshed and death if you give over your territories and businesses, then walk away.
If you do that, our bosses might let you live. ”
“That’s an interesting perspective. And one that would take a helluva lot of manpower to accomplish.
You mentioned bosses. How many? Why are they so determined to have what the Bragans and we have?
It doesn’t feel totally about business. It’s personal,” Alistair said, showing one reason why he was the lead Hound. He instinctively knew things.
