Chapter 29 – RHETT

RHETT

Iwake up in the most blissful state. It’s early.

The sky isn’t even touched by the sun, and yet I’m so perfectly warm with the woman beside me.

She’s tucked in against my body, her arms and legs wrapped around me like I’m a vine.

All too soon, she’ll get up and leave for work, and I need to do the same shortly after.

And when I see Russel this morning, I’ll be hit with the worst sort of tormenting guilt.

What kind of father does this to his son?

I’m not trying to hurt him. She just makes me so fucking happy.

I’m not sure I’ve had a lot of that in my life.

It’s been different joys and happiness, but nothing like this.

Not even with Russel’s mother before she twisted everything the wrong way.

I don’t regret her getting pregnant, and I’d never regret my son.

But I also feel as though I was always waiting for Quinn, and I hate that he got to her first. That he’ll always be a barrier between her and me. That I should walk away from her and never look back because if I don’t, I’ll lose what little relationship I have with him.

So why can’t I stop? Why does the thought of letting this go break me in two?

Quinn doesn’t sleep in anything except her underwear, which she wasn’t wearing after her shower last night.

Which means she’s naked.

My hand slides down her spine to cup and squeeze her ass.

She moans. “What time is it?”

“Early.”

“Early isn’t a real answer.”

I grin. “It’s just before five.”

“I need to get going.” Yet she doesn’t move, and her eyes haven’t opened.

“Do you have time for a quickie?”

She smirks and takes my hand from her ass and puts it between her legs. A smile erupts across my lips. I love that she knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it. I love that she’s sexy and confident and strong. I love that she makes me smile in a way no other woman ever has.

And I fucking love that she’s already this wet for me.

I roll her on top of me and kiss her, dragging one hand through her hair to push the red strands back. She blinks open her sleepy green eyes, and my heart stops dead.

“Hi,” she says.

“Hi, baby.” I comb more of her hair back, tucking it behind her shoulders. “God, Quinn, you are so beautiful.”

Her eyes hold mine, all playfulness slipping before she dips in and kisses me. I rub my cock up and down her slit, working her up. She moans into me before she sits up, lines herself up with my cock, and sinks down on me.

And hell. What I said to her last night is somehow even more true now.

Nothing is better than being inside of her.

Her hips swivel forward and back before she circles them, and a groan rips past my lips. Jesus. She does it again, riding me, using me, fucking herself on me. It’s so goddamn sexy.

Just like my girl.

Her pretty tits bounce and sway, and her hair falls around her, a stunning contrast to her light skin.

It’s Monday morning, and the week starts all over again, but I’d give anything to be able to stay in this bed with her all day.

To keep her naked and have us cuddle up and watch movies and touch each other and talk.

I have all these visions, all these fantasies, and I don’t know if any of them will become mine in the light of day.

Or if all I’ll have with her are stolen moments in the dark.

We do have the bye week. Maybe I’ll take her away for a few nights or maybe I’ll convince her to take a few days off, and I’ll get the fantasy of us not leaving this room.

I grab her ass cheeks and split them wide, using them to push her down harder on me.

She moans louder, her hands falling to my chest so she can lean forward and grind her clit on my pelvic bone.

I fuck up into her, sawing in and out, my cock so wet from her pussy it slips out, and I have to feed it back to her.

I’m dying to flip her over and bury my face between her legs, but I promised her a quickie, and I have to deliver on that. And an orgasm.

Her eyes hold mine as we fuck each other, both of us already sweaty and breathless.

She slides her pussy up and down, rubbing her clit harder and faster while I fuck her.

My stomach clenches, and my balls are drawn up, my cock begging to come.

The moment her back arches and her eyes roll back into her head, I go even harder, pounding up into her until I roar out my release.

It’s hard and sharp and almost painful, it’s so intense.

Damn, how does she feel even better this morning than she did last night? Or do I think every time with her is better than the last?

She collapses onto my chest, both of us breathing hard. My fingers drag through her hair, catching on a snarl. She tenses, and I kiss her forehead in apology as I gently slip my fingers out.

“I need to go.”

My eyes close. “I know. Are you going for a run?”

“No time.” She smiles against my chest and props her chin up onto my sternum so she can gaze up at me. “Besides, I got a lot of cardio in last night and this morning.”

I drag a finger over the pretty lines of her face. “So I can keep up with you, is what you’re saying?”

“I am just hitting my sexual prime.”

“Good. I feel like I’m hitting mine again.”

She wiggles on my already stiffening cock. “I can tell. Too bad I can’t stay and play.” She pulls off me and rolls onto her side. “Down, boy. You’ll have to wait till later.”

I chuckle and playfully push her away. She hops out of bed and goes into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her.

“I’m using your toothbrush.”

“Go for it,” I call back and pull on a clean pair of briefs, shorts, and a T-shirt. I’m debating whether I should go for a run, but after not getting a lot of sleep the past two nights and yes getting plenty of cardio last night and this morning, I decide to skip it.

A moment later, Quinn comes out of the bathroom wearing the clothes she wore yesterday on the plane and to the game. I know they’re dirty and gross, and I feel bad that I don’t have anything here she can wear.

I’ll have to fix that.

She comes over to me and throws her arms around my neck.

Climbing up onto her tiptoes, she kisses me, her breath minty and fresh, whereas mine isn’t.

She doesn’t seem to mind though. In no time, our kiss turns heated, and before we end up in my bed again, she pulls away.

Her eyes are dark, and her lips are wet and swollen.

“I really do have to go.”

“I’ll walk you out.”

My townhouse is cool and dark as is the air outside, even if I can already feel the heat and humidity of this weird weather pattern trying to break through.

I glance around the street, hating that I have to do it, but it’s a necessity all the same.

I haven’t had press outside my door since July when they discovered Russel is my son.

But more than the press, I have neighbors who know who I am. Likely who know Quinn Reyes as well.

“All clear?” she asks, her tone light and teasing, but I wonder if having to do this bothers her as much as it’s bothering me.

“All clear.” My voice falls flat of the levity I was going for.

“Kay. Have a good day.” I get a kiss on my cheek.

“You too.” She slips past me, and my gut sinks, watching her go. I miss her already, and I hate that she won’t be on the field with me until the end of the week.

I watch as she goes down the street to her building with hurried steps. Her head swivels over her shoulder as she reaches the steps that lead to her door, and she nails me with a smile and a wave before she blows me a kiss.

Then she’s gone, and my day has to go on.

Fuck I’ve got it bad for her. I think I have since I first laid eyes on her.

I take a shower, eat some breakfast, drink two cups of coffee, and decide to head into work early, since what the fuck else do I have to do?

I park in my spot, show my ID badge to the guard, who waves me in without glancing at it, and up I go to my office, only to head down to the weight room.

I have too much in my head, and I need to burn it off.

Except when I get here, I find that I’m not alone.

Asher is here, doing the same thing I came to do.

“Mornin’,” he drawls as he finishes a set of pull-ups.

“Mornin’,” I parrot. “Hope I’m not interrupting.”

He shakes his head as he pulls his body up until his chin rises above the bar. Two more reps before his feet land on the mat, and he grabs his towel off a holder and his bottle of water from the floor.

“Not at all,” he finally answers as he wipes his forehead. “I like coming here early. It’s quiet. Allows me to think.” He grins. “Plus, Wynter went into the hospital early.” A chuckle escapes his lips. “How she gets excited over being paged in for an emergency femur fracture is beyond me.”

I open my mouth and nearly say that Quinn is the same way, only to stop myself before the words slip out.

I’m sleeping with my boss’s daughter, and he has no clue.

Part of me is tempted to tell him. To come clean to him.

To tell him that I think I’m falling in love with his daughter and see how he reacts.

But this just started for Quinn and me. Yes, it was months in the making, and yes, we already know each other from that.

But this side of us is new and fragile, and I don’t want to push Quinn too far too fast. Not to mention, all the other stuff that tells me I can’t—or shouldn’t—have more than this as a fleeting affair.

“That’s wild,” is what I go with and head over to the weight machines. Bench presses will hurt, and that’s exactly what I need right now.

“I remember my first loss as a head coach,” he says from halfway across the room, moving on to an ab machine. He laughs softly. “It was also my first game as a head coach, so that sucked. I thought for sure I’d get fired and booed out of this city. It was a terrible loss.”

“How bad?” I ask, curious because I didn’t know this.

“Thirty to three.”

I wince, and he sees it and nods.

“Yeah. The first loss is the worst. It doesn’t ever fully get better because it’s still losing and we hate that as competitive assholes, but it happens to all of us and it’s something we have to live with.”

“Thanks,” I tell him, actually needing to hear that more than I realized. “That helps a lot.”

Asher’s a really good guy, and he’s taking a big chance on me to lead his team. A team he’s devoted his entire career to. It makes me feel like even more of a dirtbag for going behind his back.

“How’s it going with Russel?” he asks. “Any behavior issues or problems with the other guys?”

“Not that I’ve seen or heard about it,” I tell him, glossing over the woman he had in his room before the game.

I laid into him about that, and the GM doesn’t exactly need to know.

If it happens again, that’ll be a different story, and I won’t let him off the hook if it impacts the team.

“I think he’s trying hard to shed the bad boy, difficult to play and work with image. ”

“Good. I don’t think there’s any love still between them, but they seem to be tolerating each other.”

“Agreed,” I grunt as I press three hundred and fifty pounds up with my feet. I used to be able to do four hundred no problem.

“We’re making it work,” he says. “Now we just have to make it through the season without any distractions derailing us.”

“Right.” This time I managed to hold in my wince. Just barely.
