I won’t lie, I didn’t know if Reese would want to see me, especially not after I walked away from him.
So, when he stretched his arm out for me, I didn’t hesitate to grab his hand.
I hadn’t talked to Reese in over a week.
However, I never lost contact with Rayna and Raine.
They hit me up every day, damn near begging me to give their brother a chance.
I wasn’t ready, though. It was still things I needed to do for myself.
After leaving Monae’s house, I went to talk to my dad.
I always did what he asked, never said no to him.
I wanted to make him proud of me. Throughout my entire life, I’ve dedicated myself to following in his footsteps, so much so that I chose a man just like him: controlling, demanding, narcissistic — Sincere Dupree.
I expressed to my dad what happened and why I think it happened. Of course, he disagreed about the part he played, and I’m okay with that. I told him I loved him but needed to live my own life and packed my things to go back to my place.
The next day, I got a call saying I can come back to work. I didn’t want it though, so a few hours later, I turned in my letter of resignation to Beast.
Instead of working for other people, I’m gonna open up my own practice. Rayna was happy to know she’d have a job working with me once she finished law school.
I called Monae on my way over here, and to say she was excited was an understatement. My ears were still ringing from her screams.
I’m hoping he still wants to take me on a date, and I don’t know if we’ll last once that date ends or what trials we’ll face afterward. However, I do know I won’t be scared to try.
I went through some shit lately. I’m glad I came out on the other side a better woman, a woman who knows what she wants. I wanted Reese Jacobs and my best friend told me to find my happiness, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.
The End!
