Chapter 28 Chaos
I’m far enough out in the country that no one else is around except for my target.
He fucked up when he called my baby. Geek has software that not only traces Charisma’s location, but it also traces the location of anyone who calls her.
Before I returned her phone to her, I had Geek to download the software on her phone.
That enabled me to track the senator’s ass down.
I hear the click of the alarm, and a peace settles over me. Lights flick on throughout the house, accompanying the stomp of boots.
The door opens in the room that I’m in, and I watch as he goes to the bar and pours his drink. He takes a long swig and empties the glass before he pours a second one.
“Cherish the taste because that will be your last one,” I comment from the corner as he takes another swallow.
He spins around and chokes on his drink. “How the hell did you get in here?”
“I think it’s a little too late to worry about that.”
“What do you want, Chaos?”
“I’ll pay for my sins, but I think it’s way past time that you pay for yours. Pulling innocent people into your bullshit ain’t cool, my guy. The second you threatened what was mine was the same second that you signed your death certificate.”
“So, what? Are you here to kill me? Put a bullet in my head?” He frowns and rubs his head.
“No. This is the one murder that I won’t be paid a dime for, but I’ll still take satisfaction in it. I’ll walk away from it with clean hands. You’re going to kill yourself.”
“Why would I do that?”
“Because it’s all a part of the plan.”
“I know that you had something to do with my wife’s murder weapon being found and supposedly registered to me.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I reply smugly.
He takes a seat behind the desk across from where I’m sitting. His movements are slightly jerky.
“You’re gonna kill me. You gotcha gloves. I have shecurity cameras on my propershy, and they won’t be easy to hack.” He is slurring his words. The chemical is taking effect.
“See, that’s where you’re wrong. One of my MC brothers is a beast when it comes to computer shit. You have no idea what he’s capable of. So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they are recording on a loop that cannot be detected even with the best security systems and analysts.”
“I’ve waited five years to get revenshhh.”
“It’s starting to take effect. Good.”
“Whash take ufh-ufh-fect?”
“Your bourbon, scotch, and cognac are laced with a liquid that removes all your willpower and self-control. You have no control over your actions, only your thoughts. Everything that I tell you to do, you will do it.”
“Whash . . . whash happenin’?”
“You’re being controlled by the drug in your system.
When they perform the autopsy, they won’t be able to detect it because it’s untraceable.
Even if they knew what to look for, they wouldn’t find it.
Now, here’s what you’re going to do. Open that drawer on the right side of your desk and remove the pen and paper. ”
I watch as he does what I ask. I continue walking him through the instructions of writing a suicide note, detailing how he knows he needs to be held responsible for his wife’s murder.
When he finishes the note, he reaches back inside the drawer and removes the gun waiting in there for him. It’s his gun, and there is one in the chamber. He lifts the gun to his head.
“Any final words?” I ask.
“Don’t do dis,” he pleads.
“Nice parting words. Pull the trigger, my nigga.”
He closes his eyes, pulls the trigger, and his body slumps sideways.
I sigh and pull out my phone to make a call. “Hey. My work here is done.”
I end my call with Keeper and head out. I’m ready to go see my babies.
“Chaos! Chaos! Come in here, babe!” Charisma shrieks loudly.
“I’ll be back, li’l G,” I sign to CJ. I toss the controller aside and race out of the second bedroom that I decorated for CJ. We have spent most of the evening playing video games, while Charisma is in the kitchen cooking dinner for us.
“Aye. Ya li’l ass gonna have to chill with all that noise. I told you they’re gonna start leasing the rest of these apartments out in six months. You gotta get used to it,” I state, walking toward where she’s standing in the center of the living room.
She has an apron on, a dab of red sauce on her cheek, and a flour-coated spoon dangling from her hand. She’s staring at the TV in disbelief but slowly turns her gaze to me.
“What is it?”
“He’s . . . he’s dead, Chrishon.”
I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her. Resting my chin on the top of her head, I mumble, “Mm.”
She doesn’t say anything but continues listening to the news about how Senator Benjamin Starling was found by a groundskeeper yesterday, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.
They go on to state that there was a note found at the scene of the crime, and he had left all his belongings to his wife’s sister and his child.
Detectives are ruling it a suicide in an open and shut case.
When the news turns to people who knew him, expressing how they were shocked at this recent turn of events, I take the remote from her hand and mute the TV. I spin Charisma around and wrap my arms around her waist.
“Tell me what you’re thinking.”
“I don’t know. I guess some would say that I should have seen this coming, but I’m still shocked, I guess.”
“Why?”
“His death isn’t shocking. The fact that he took his own life is shocking. He was so arrogant in some ways, and this isn’t what I would have expected.”
“Really?”
“Or maybe I would have. I recall him saying a few months ago that he couldn’t handle losing his money, his reputation, or career. He said that it would break him.”
“He told you that?”
“Yes, but he also said it on an interview show. It was something that I saw on a special about the ‘The Man, the Law, and the Politic.’”
“How are you feeling about it?”
“I guess I need to process it.”
“Why is that?”
“It seems odd, but I’m not sad about it, strangely enough. I would have expected to be. There’s a sense of relief that he’s no longer a threat to CJ.”
“Baby, he was never a threat to CJ. He was just blowing hot air. If there’s breath in my body, and the Immortal Descendents live to ride another day, you and our kid will always be safe. What about your personal feelings?”
“I have none. Even though we were together for almost a year, I don’t miss him.
I’m hurt that I didn’t have enough discernment to see through him, and I exposed our son to that.
I allowed myself to be used, and that bothers me more than anything.
It feels like I wasted a year of my life and my son’s life. ”
“You couldn’t have known. You had no idea what happened with me and the impact it would have on you. I had no idea that he would target you. Life happens, but we’ve overcome this shit, and we’re still standing. I love you, Charisma.”
I tip her head just a little and kiss her lips. She’s soft and moist, and she opens her mouth to me. She catches me off guard when she sucks my tongue, taking control of our kiss.
A noise to the side of us causes me to pull back. I smirk at CJ signing.
“What’s he saying?” I ask. I’m still learning a lot from him, but I know that, soon, we’ll be able to communicate effortlessly because I’m making him a priority.
“He says what happened to you taking this whupping?” Charisma laughs.
I press a kiss to her lips again and then pull back. “I’ma take you up on that offer you gave with that tongue action a minute ago. Right now, let me go put youngblood back in his place.”
She giggles and laughs. I turn to follow my son back into his room, and I can feel her eyes on me.
I turn back and smile at her before I blow a kiss.
She catches it, and my heart tugs in my chest. I never thought I would feel this whole again, but I do, all because of her and this little guy that I’ve been blessed with.
