Chapter 6
-:- VICTORIA -:-
I’m lying here wondering if I should open up and tell anyone about what is going on, or keep it to myself and disappear as quickly as I can?
Jack has been great. He’s told me about the MC and how they help people.
They sound like good people and if I wasn’t in this situation, I would be thrilled to make friends with them.
I just don’t want to drag them into the mess I’m in.
“Chaos will be here this morning, Victoria. I’ll be back tonight. Do you need anything brought?” Jack asks, while stretching his legs and yawning.
“Maybe a magazine or a book?”
“I’ll speak to Jo. She’ll have one of her books kicking around that I can bring for you. Apparently, they can be raunchy, so don’t be shocked if you get to a spicy bit.” Jack chuckles, and I wonder who Jo is and what books she writes.
The door opens, and the doctor walks into the room. “You’ve been in here long enough. Do you remember we moved you here from ICU?”
“No, I don’t remember that,” I respond and look at Jack who is watching the doctor closely.
“No, you probably don’t as it was when you first woke, and you were only awake for a few minutes with your boyfriend before we had you moved.
” Removing the IV as he’s speaking to me, he continues, “I want you to drink plenty of fluids and get back to eating three meals a day. You will need to have a follow-up visit with your doctor. The X-ray and scan show no physical injury to your skull. But the stitches will have to come out in another week's time. I’m going to be happy to let you go home tomorrow.”
Nodding as he speaks I give a small smile when he says I can leave tomorrow. Once he’s left, I turn to Jack. “Well, looks like I’m going home tomorrow. If you just bring me a book to read I’ll be set. I need little else when I’m just lying here.”
“I can do that. Chaos will be here soon. I’ll get my day things done and have a couple of hours napping before I come back this evening. I will bring you a book.”
We both look up when the door opens, and a woman walks into the room. “Oh, hi Delta,” Jack says. I relax when I know Jack knows her, meaning she’s not some assassin come looking to take me out.
“Oh, hi Jack. Hi Victoria. I’m Delta. I’m one of the tech people at BaronsSecure, and I thought you might like a visit from someone who speaks your language.”
Now, I must look a little lost because Jack explains what BaronsSecure is, and what Delta means by tech person. We talk for quite a while before I notice Jack is getting antsy. “Why don’t you take off, Jack? Delta is here, so I have someone with me, but I’m well enough now to look after myself.”
“I’ll be here, Jack. I’ll stay with Victoria until Chaos arrives.”
Jack ponders for a moment, then agrees to see me later, bring me some cookies, and a dirty book to read. Which has me a little shocked, but Delta asks if it’s one of Jo’s before bursting out laughing.
“So, now we are on our own. What the hell is going on, Victoria? Someone is messing with you because of your ability, aren’t they?” Delta gets right to asking me as the door closed.
Sighing, I look at Delta before responding. “Yes, someone wants me to work for them. I said no. They don’t like it. End of story.” That’s as much as I’m telling her.
“Well, I’m sure it’s not the end of the story, but you know I’m prior military, I know my way in and out of places. I’ve been into the dark web for my service, and since, and I’ll do what I can to help if you need it.”
“I work freelance. I’ve done quite a lot of work for banks this last four years. Making sure they are solidly locked down. It’s surprising how many have been hacked.”
Delta laughs while nodding, “I’ll help you in any way I can. You should come work with me. I’m sure we can offer you a job.”
“Hey, none of that. I’ve plenty of clients to keep me going.” I sit up straighter when a nurse enters and seems shocked when she sees Delta sitting talking to me.
Now, Delta is around 5’7”. She is toned more than I am, although I keep myself fit.
She is beautiful and has brown hair with gold highlights.
It’s shoulder-length and by the kink in it she often has it in a ponytail.
Her eyes are light brown, unusually light but stunning.
She is observant and is watching the nurse more than a little closely.
That has me on alert, and I give the nurse my full attention.
“What’s going on? Do you need to check something?” I ask and keep my eyes on her.
“I was going to swap out your IV, but it seems you have had it removed. It’s not on your chart that it was removed, so I’ll do that next.”
She steps towards me, but I have a bad feeling, so throw my legs off the bed on the opposite side to her. Delta is out of her seat in a second and steps so she’s between the nurse and the door.
The nurse looks at Delta, then me, and I can see she’s nervous.
“What are you really here for?” I ask with a serious tone in my voice. She doesn’t respond, so I push again. “You look very nervous, so come on, what were you here to do?”
Now, it’s faster than we expected when the woman whirls around and sweeps Delta’s legs, but thanks to fate the door opens and a huge man steps into the room.
He takes in what is happening in a second and overpowers the nurse.
He has her back to his front, arms behind her back and holding her wrists in one of his hands.
The other arm is around her neck and holding her still.
She’s turning a little blue I notice, but I’m saying nothing.
He turns to look at Delta and grins, “You okay down there?”
Delta springs to her feet and looks pissed that she was taken by surprise. But she gives the man a weak smile, regardless. “Hi, Wings. What are you going to do with her now?”
“Well, contact Buzz or Drag. Get them to come fetch the bitch, or ask Nell to come and collect another one,” the man called Wings says and gives me a wink and a shit-eating smile.
Clapping her hands together, Delta chants, “Nell, Nell, oh yes, Nell.”
I’ve no idea who Nell is, but Delta obviously likes her. I open my mouth to ask, but Wings gives me a tiny shake of the head, so I snap my mouth closed.
Wings looks at the woman and when he sees she is out for the count, he releases her and she flops to the ground, banging her head on impact. I close my eyes because I know how much a concussion hurts.
“She’ll need to be taken away,” Delta sighs as she pulls out her phone and types a message to someone.
Stupidly, I ask, “Do I want to know?”
Wings is a very handsome individual, and knows it, just like Chaos. But he is huge, he must be 6’4”, built like a tank, short blond hair, silver-gray eyes, and he has a huge smirk on his face. I blush a little because I’ve been caught red-handed checking him out.
“How big was your mama?” I ridiculously spout, which has Delta burst out laughing.
“She was 5’5”, but my daddy was 6’3”, so hey, I take after that asshole. But only in size,” Wings replies.
I zip my lips because honest to goodness I could dig myself into an enormous hole. I look down at the nurse and she is still out cold. “Do you think she really is a nurse? Delta, check her pockets and see if she has a syringe because she came in here to do something bad.”
I watch as Delta squats and searches the nurse’s pockets, bringing out a syringe. “Oh, yeah, she has one.” Looking up at Wings, Delta smirks, I’m not sure why mind you. “Nell’s boys will be here soon, Wings.”
“Who is Nell?” I ask because this isn’t the first time I’ve heard her name. Both Wings and Delta ignore my question.
Wings takes a seat next to the bed, but he’s got one eye on the nurse. Delta perches on the foot of my bed, and she isn’t showing any sign of being worried about the woman on the ground. I just hope nobody walks in here and sees her.
The door opens and two men step inside, give me a nod before doing that man slap thing with Wings.
One drags a gurney in and the other throws the nurse onto it, covering her with a sheet.
Now it looks like they are taking a dead body away.
Jesus, I’m not sure if I should hang around with these people!
“See you later, Tank,” Wings says, but he has a tone that I’m not recognizing, and do I really want to?
“Yeah, we will hold them until you are ready. Nell said to bring some pastries from the bakery and some of the club's wine. That’s all she wants,” Tank replies giving Wings a pointed look.
“No problem, I can do that,” Wings responds before starting to close the door behind them.
“Hold on there, guys. She had this in her pocket.” Delta hands over the syringe to the one called Tank.
“Oh, Nell is gonna love having that. Thanks, Delta.”
Delta then gets my attention when she asks, “Okay, so tell me what you are going to do when you leave the hospital.”
“I’m not sure, but first I’ll go to my apartment. I will check in with my clients, then decide about staying here or moving on.”
Wings chuckles. “Victoria, you know Chaos isn’t going to just let you leave, not on your own. He’ll either want you to stay or he’ll go with you.”
“Well, I know he’s pretending to be my boyfriend, but he has no say in what I do, how I do it, or anything else.” I snip a little because come on, I don’t know these people, not really, although they are treating me like one of them.
I notice Delta looks at Wings, and Wings looks at Delta, right before they both burst out laughing as though I’ve said the funniest thing they ever heard.
I must look at them aghast as that has them laughing more. What do I do? The only thing I can, I turn over and give them my back, huffing while I do. “Like hyenas,” I mumble, which of course sets them off again.
Delta crawls up the bed and cuddles me, but she’s giggling while she’s doing it. “Come on, Victoria, we are joking with you. Somewhat!”
The door opens and I look up when I hear a snarled, “Get off my woman.”
Delta laughs as she jumps off the bed, and rolling over I see it’s Chaos who has stepped into the room. I give him a small smile and a weak-sounding, “Hi.” Which, I tell you has me cringing some, because I’m not that weak type of person. Not really.
Walking over to me Chaos perches on the side of the bed, leans into me and kisses my forehead. “You okay, babe?”
Wings jumps into the conversation and explains all about the nurse and that she’s gone to Nell’s. I’ll have to find out who this Nell is because it’s fairly obvious they all know who she is, and you can see the respect on their faces when they talk about her.
“Who is Nell?” I blurt.
Chaos leans back on the bed, throws an arm around me and pulls me to his side.
“Nell is a friend of the club. She owns a bed-and-breakfast place just outside of town. Marvelous woman she is, and she has an Italian man chasing her, but he’s not caught her as yet.
Her brother lives with her and two friends, Tank and Richie.
They are both former military and good men.
Tough men, but would have your back if you needed it. ”
“I think they came and took the nurse?” I say, but with a questioning tone. Delta nods, and that is the end of that conversation. For some reason, all three quickly talk about other subjects.
I listen for a while but get bored with the topic and drift to sleep. Unknown to me the three took out their phones and started sending messages, right before giving each other a satisfied nod.
