Chapter 8 #2
“Marcus Whit,” Josh’s best friend, this keeps getting better and better. “I broke his hand”.
“I’ll be there in thirty, you better not worsen the situation for your own sake. If Josh doesn’t kill you I will,” I kindly inform him of his most imminent future. “And no Stephanie or Spencer when I arrive!” I exclaim and know I need to have his confirmation. “Was I clear?”
“As clear as water,” after I get those words out of him, I hang up. I look outside and see Josh near his car. When his greenish eyes land on me his fist closes and he lunges in my direction.
Love tries to hold him but he shakes her off, three consecutive times.
“My brother has Marcus but I had nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, he clearly has a death wish. And chose to mess with us. He’s bored.
If you want revenge on him, go ahead. Just don’t kill him, I’m responsible for his life,” I say, Josh hits me, I take the punch and it reopens my busted lower lip.
“Are we even now. Can we go get him before James does something stupid?”
“Oh, this wasn’t stupid?” Josh asks and grabs me by my shirt’s collarbone.
“This was an attack Dominik. If you can’t keep your brother on a leash, I will.
He won’t like it and neither will you. This is James’ last strike.
The next thing he does? He’s gone. For his well-being, pray Marcus is intact,” well, I know the more I pray, it won’t change his hand’s state.
“You have a brother?” Love asks I try to analyse her, but the more I do, the more unclear her intentions are to me. Love is anything but predictable.
“Yes, younger brother,” I say entering my car. “Follow me,” I voice to Josh and Damian. Rian is here too but I choose to ignore his ignoble presence.
Surprisingly, there’s a knock on the passenger’s side window before I start the car’s engine.
I unlock the doors, and Love opens the door on my side.
“Can I go with you? I cleared it with Josh,” she says pointing at a fuming Josh with a fake smile on his face.
Smiling doesn’t come naturally to him. And he looks like a psychopath. Oh, wait, he is a psychopath. My bad.
“Of course, sit, ma Vie,” she shudders I don’t know if it's because of me or the temperature difference. I choose to believe the first. Call me delusional if you want, I don’t mind, as long as she’s with me.
“Why did you run away today?” I question, I know it wasn’t just Marcus, or Rian, something upset her.
“I didn’t run away, I needed to help Marcus-”
“Lies,” I instantly reply.
“Believe whatever you want,” Love says, I start the car and drive towards the highway. I first decided to let her win, but that wouldn’t get me an explanation, and I’m what my mom would call a control freak.
“I believe in the truth. And that’s not it. Regretting getting in this car?” I ask when I notice in my peripheral vision, Love’s looking outside the window.
“Are we exclusive?” Love asks and a knot forms in my soul.
“What is even that question? We’re exclusive, we’ll always be.
You’ll always be mine, Love. Don’t fool yourself,” I say and my mind roams over Rian’s looks at her.
Insecurity fills my blood for the first time since my mother died.
“Did you let someone touch you?” I ask her, she’s still wearing my clothes, no bra, I’d say no panties, delicious curves showing in all the perfect places. God this woman will be the death of me.
“No, that’s not it. I saw something-”
“What did you see?” I ask her and my mind starts making hypotheses. The only time she was alone before leaving she was in my room, with nothing in there. Wait, something was there. My phone.
“That doesn’t matter. If I’m yours, you’re mine too, Dominik, you know that right?” she asks and I nod chuckling.
“Are you agreeing that you’re mine?” I ask her adjusting myself in my seat, my dick chooses the worst occasions to act like a dick.
“In your dreams,” she says and the banter only gets me harder.
The only thing keeping me from stopping the car right here, right now, is Josh in the car behind.
My brother threatened someone he considers to be his brother and right now, I don’t need, and honestly can’t afford any additional trouble.
“Did you know your brother was kidnapping Marcus?” Love asks and I glare at her to see her already looking at me.
“I didn’t, if I did I wouldn’t have let him.
He has this habit of being a huge inconvenience,” I disclose, I won’t tell her more.
She doesn’t need to know. But why do I want to keep talking?
“I’m always cleaning up his messes. He gets in trouble and I solve it, that’s how our relationship goes,” I was never a man to quiet my wants.
“Why do you do it?” she asks and I glance her way while stepping on the gas for actual fright my brother decapitated Marcus, wouldn’t be his first. With someone else, of course.
“Promised my mother I would before she died,” I answer letting her see a glimpse of my mind, “It’s something that’s going to take me to the grave,” for some reason the darkness comes back and makes me close up.
The titanium walls I held high are bulletproof and unscratched once again.
Or at least until I look at Love when we arrive at my place.
“This is your house?” she asks there’s a gleam of want in her eyes when I park the car.
“Was,” I answer, her eyes become duller. The want was directed at me. I’m such a delusional prick, I get out of the car smirking before Josh and the others park their car blocking our exit.
“Come on, everyone, follow me. And Damian? Stay in the car ready to go to the nearest hospital,” I say unsure if I’m asking it for Marcus or my brother, because Josh will go berserk when he finds out about the broken hand.
Yet not just because of that, not even nearly just that, the fact that James played the torturer game on his best friend.
That wouldn’t sit well on my stomach either.
“You know I’m going to kill your brother, right?” Josh says and doesn’t wait for me, he goes inside the house through the kitchen and finds the basement door in no time.
When Josh nears the end of the stairs he starts going back up. “What’s wrong?” Rian and I ask in unison.
“Either one of you take Love home,” Josh asks and I let Rian take her, I do look at her before she leaves, she glares at me with those stunning ice pearl blue eyes.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Spencer?” Josh asks as soon as we hear a car’s engine start outside.
“So Dominik is your backup? Tragic!” Spencer exclaims playing with a knife in his hands, I see nothing but red, a red mist blurring my sight. I’ve been planning Spencer’s death ever since I fell flat for Love. Yet there’s something Josh and Love are hiding from me.
This wasn’t just because he sent a spy, this tone Josh just spoke in, is the type of tone you give to someone who murdered your most precious asset. Or person, as most would say.
“How’s Love? Heard she turned out great, good girl, huh?” I have to physically stop myself from breaking Spencer’s wrist and stabbing his ass with his dagger. He doesn’t get to call her that.
Josh must’ve noticed he put himself slightly in front of me. I control myself, which is an art I usually master. Not so often for the past two years. I switch mine and Josh’s position. Stephanie treasures me too much for Spencer to attempt to put a finger on me. Not that I need her protection.
“Answer Josh’s question. What are you doing here, Spencer?” I demand to know. Spencer’s dark green eyes spark to life. I know what this look means on him. He wanted something and he got it.
“Where’s James?” I ask and Spencer laughs.
