Chapter 29 #2
Before he can take another round I instinctively shoot his way. I wait and wait and there isn’t any movement on the rooftop anymore. I hit him, but now I am a known target.
Shooting erupts from everywhere, I don’t have time to look at who I’m hitting twice before doing so, so I grab the microphone “Stay away from the windows,” I say in hope Dominik heard.
“Got it, little Kane,” Marcus responds and I sigh in relief. They’re fine. They won’t go near the windows.
“Get down, Rian,” I scream and he stays halfway up. I let go of the gun and tackle him to the ground. “Are you insane?”
“Just checking the sniper’s dead-”
“Insanity check, stay the hell down or I’ll be the one to shoot you,” I say and see Liot’s guards all moving around the house.
“Kit, take Josh and Love out of here. They’re taking the building down,” Dominik whispers to the microphone, it’s barely audible with all the madness going on. Kit grabs me and we walk hunkered down towards the roof’s door. But before we get there, I feel myself flying away from the door.
When I get my senses back all I hear is ringing. I look around and there’s fire everywhere, I’m touching grass. Someone must’ve thrown a rocket our way, which also means I fell helplessly five metres. I try to move but everything hurts.
I start regaining hearing and as soon as I hear shots, I’m being dragged across the floor by someone. I grab the grass and look behind to see that Liot is the one dragging me to the sniper’s house.
I grab a rock and break his hand that’s grabbing my ankle. I struggle to get to my feet but I manage to. “Fucking bitch,” he murmurs and I grab my boot’s knife and hold it tight in his direction.
“Stand back,” I say and he points his gun at me. My hand slightly trembles and he smirks. His loose hand was completely red and pouring out blood. Drop by drop, it drips to the floor. “I said stand back, prick,” I try again and he laughs.
“Think you can make demands? I can blow your brains out,” when he says that I send the knife flying his way and he fires the gun.
Despite ducking, my movement is too slow, I get hit anyway.
The bullet barely grazes the side of my forehead.
I see the gun fall to the ground and run for it.
Liot gets there one second earlier and grabs me by the neck holding the gun against my temple.
“Back off, Ricik,” Liot says and I gently gesture at both his beaten hands. Liot knocks the gun against my head and everything goes black for one second. I could almost see my mother’s blonde hair in the distance...
“Good, you’re back, welcome to the party,” Liot says and I look around, I see Dominik untying his hands in his back and I check mine, also tied.
“Your friends are weak. They can end me and have Maakt for themselves, but since they’d kill you too, they won’t do it.
They’d rather die, and let you two get a chance. ”
“They’re surrounding you, what do you think they’ll do after you kill us?” Dominik asks and Liot laughs.
“They’ll kill me, and I’ll be happy to go,” Liot replies, what a psychopath. Liot starts looking at Dominik more seriously and I know I need to grab his attention.
“Let Dominik go, it’s me you want!” I exclaim when he reinforces Dominik’s restraints. I look at Dominik’s face and see it beaten up. Liot is going to die, and it will be by my hands.
“I could do it, but I want it this way. Dominik can see your pain firsthand,” Liot says with his putrid smile. It corrupts the air and brings an acrid scent to your nose, or maybe it's just all the gunpowder mixed with the dead corpses and blood.
I try to feel any injuries I might have. A sprained ankle, broken ribs, and burnt upper right leg. Liot looks at me looking at myself and I focus on him.
“Don’t look at me, look at him,” he screams before pressing his finger inside my badly burnt wound. I grit my teeth trying not to scream, and look up. Why the hell is god allowing this?
“She did nothing to you. Hurt me,” Dominik says he’s magicking something.
I don’t look at him, I don’t give Liot that pleasure.
I check if my legs are tied too, and when he presses the wound deeper, I send the chair flying back in an attempt to break it.
It doesn’t break, entirely. But one of my legs swung free, I glue it to the chair so Liot doesn’t notice and wait for him to pick me back up.
When I’m about to kick him where it hurts he slices my leg open.
He still flies back, but so do I. On the floor, and no longer unable to scream.
I look at Dominik and he’s gesturing at my leg, or at least that’s what I think first. He’s actually pointing at my feet.
Lying on my back I use all my strength to kick back to Dominik’s direction Liot’s fallen knife.
Dominik throws the chair to the floor sideways and starts breaking the restraints, when Liot decides it’s enough. He shoots Dominik in the hand the one with the knife, the knife falls near me, but I don’t make an attempt to reach it or even look at it. Liot can’t see what I’m planning.
“Entertain him,” I mouth to Dominik and he seems to understand this is the only way we’re walking out of here alive. Dominik managed to loosen the grip in his wrists but doesn’t show it to Liot. I calculate my next moves fast.
I’m going to send that knife to Dominik, we’ll get out of here no matter what.
“You know what’s interesting?” Liot asks pacing in steady circles.
“You weren’t the first Ricik to hurt my family.
I’ve been planning your fall your whole life.
Both of you were death sentenced since birth,” Liot continues and I let him keep going.
I need to hear what he has to say next. “The south will be erased once all of your group disappears from existence. It’s convenient that I have all the leaders here, right?
Think I’m insane? No, I’m fucking mad. I will reign Maakt, or my people will. And you’ll be six feet under.”
“What made you hold such a grudge?” Dominik asks and Liot punches him. I look at the knife once.
I can do this.
I try to convince myself.
“You didn’t kill my daughter,” Dominik has to hold back jumping on top of him and ending him in that moment.
“My daughter got close to you to try to sabotage my plan. She knew everyone would die. And she was scared of me. I killed her. But I only had to kill her because meeting such a psychopathic person as you made her think you might level up to me. She thought you could stop me. She was killed soon after. The note she left wasn’t a suicide letter.
It was a poem, that showed quite literally what I pursue.
And I couldn’t let that out. Not to my guards, not to other Mitkus, and especially not to you. ”
“Took you a lifetime to plan mass murder? Outch,” Dominik says and I know that’s my sign to act. I send the chair back in the knife’s direction, and I have no time to send it to Dominik, Liot has a gun to his face.
I free my hands in 3 seconds or so and send the knife flying at Liot’s right eye.
“Fucking bitch,” I hear and feel thankful I hit him. However, I fall heavily on the floor, I gain the courage to look down to see my jeans covered in blood.
“Show some damned respect,” Dominik says on his feet, holding the knife that’s inside his eye on the surface.
“Fuck you,” Liot whispers and Dominik pushes the knife into his skull until blood drops out of Liot’s mouth. Liot’s eyes fade into darkness, as he takes his last breath.
“Wrong answer,” is the last thing I hear before I feel lightheaded, and everything I see is black.
We did it. I never miss and neither does my man.
