The Truth and Forever

Soft beams of morning light spilled through the hospital window, painting the sterile room with a fragile warmth.

Adrian's eyes fluttered open, his gaze hazy, the dull ache in his chest a constant reminder of how close he had come to losing everything.

But when he looked to his right, his heart tightened for an entirely different reason.

Celeste was curled up in a chair beside his bed, her head resting on folded arms, her hair falling messily over her face. Even in exhaustion, she was beautiful. But it was the tear stains on her cheeks that made his chest constrict.

His fingers twitched, weak but yearning. "Celeste..." His voice came out hoarse, barely more than a rasp.

She stirred, her eyelids fluttering before her gaze snapped to him. "Adrian?"

The tremor in her voice sliced through him. He tried to sit up, pain flaring through his chest, but the relief in her eyes was worth every agonizing throb.

"You're awake," she choked out, her hand grasping his as if to anchor herself. "You—you're awake."

"I promised I wouldn't leave you," he murmured, his thumb tracing over her knuckles. "Not now. Not ever."

She released a sob that was half laughter, half relief. "You idiot."

"Guilty," he whispered, his gaze locked on hers. "But I need to tell you the truth before you start calling me worse names."

Her brow furrowed, confusion and hurt mingling on her face. "The truth?"

He swallowed hard, his gaze dropping to their intertwined hands. "About what happened that night with Emily. And... everything else."

Celeste stiffened, but she didn't pull away. That small mercy was enough to give him the courage to continue.

"The night you saw me at the hotel with Emily.

.." Adrian's voice faltered as he took a deep breath, the weight of the truth pressing heavily on his chest. "I wasn't just meeting her to talk about old wounds.

Emily called me, but it wasn't for closure, not really.

She said she had information—she knew who was behind the break-in at your apartment.

She said she knew who had orchestrated everything.

I didn't want to believe it, but she swore it was someone we both knew. "

Celeste's eyes narrowed. "And you went. Alone."

"I did." His voice was thick with regret. "I knew you wouldn't be okay with it, and we had just reconciled. I didn't want anything to ruin that. So, I didn't tell you."

He paused, swallowing hard, eyes filled with regret.

"She said it was someone trying to ruin both of us.

That she had finally figured it out and was ready to leave the country, but first she needed to clear the air.

She claimed she could help me uncover the truth, and she convinced me that meeting her was the only way to find out what really happened. "

"I met her in the parking lot of the Imperial Hotel.

She told me she had just arrived too. I made it clear I couldn't be friends with her anymore because it hurt you.

And because..." His voice lowered. "Because my loyalty will always be with you.

She said she understood and that she was ready to move on and find her own happiness abroad. "

Celeste's expression was unreadable, her jaw tight.

"But then," he continued, his eyes darkening, "someone grabbed me from behind.

Covered my mouth and nose until I lost consciousness.

I was drugged. When I woke up, I was in that hotel room.

Emily was there, already in a robe, and I—I was lying on the bed.

" His fingers trembled against hers.

"I argued with her, demanded to know what the hell was happening.

She kept saying it wasn't supposed to be like this.

That she just wanted for me to love her back. "

Celeste's breath hitched. "So, it was all a setup?"

Adrian's gaze dropped to his hands, trembling.

"I never expected it would be a trap.

But it was. She wasn't alone when I got there, Celeste.

Lucas had been behind all of it. They were working together.

Lucas... he had been manipulating both of us from the start, creating the perfect storm. I should've known."

His voice cracked as he continued, guilt and anger lacing every word.

"He planned everything—the messages, the photos, even the setup at the hotel.

It was him who had manipulated you into hating me, convinced you that I was the one betraying you.

It was Lucas who had trapped you in that bathroom to make Emily the scapegoat.

He wanted to tear us apart, and he used Emily to do it.

He made her pretend to be the victim, made her act like I was the one responsible for everything. "

Her silence was damning, but he pushed forward.

Adrian looked up at Celeste, his eyes filled with sorrow and shame.

"I should've never trusted either of them.

But when Emily told me she knew who had hurt you, when she claimed she knew the truth behind the break-in.

.. I thought she was offering me a lifeline.

I didn't know she was just pulling me deeper into their web of lies. "

He reached for her hand, but Celeste pulled back, the weight of his words sinking in.

"And I should've told you everything the moment I woke up.

But I was an idiot. I thought if I tried to explain, you'd never believe me.

Especially when it looked so damning." His gaze dropped, shame radiating from him.

"I've been a coward, Celeste. But what hurt most was that I saw the betrayal in your eyes.

That you would even think..." His voice broke, but he forced himself to continue.

"That you would think I could ever betray you like that. "

Tears glistened in her eyes, but she stayed quiet, allowing him to spill every truth he had locked away.

"There's more." His fists clenched. "Lucas was the one following you after you left me, watching your every move. That's how he knew your hotel room number."

Her lips parted, eyes widening in horror. "Lucas... he was obsessed. I should have known. He was always trying to convince me you were the bad guy. But this—this is beyond anything I could've imagined."

"His obsession with you twisted him," Adrian said, his voice hard. "He was willing to destroy both of us just to keep you away from me."

He squeezed her hand, his touch fierce and desperate. "You're everything to me, Celeste. I just didn't know how to show it."

The silence between them was thick, laden with years of unspoken words and shattered dreams. But somewhere in the pain, there was hope.

"I'm done running away," he continued, his eyes blazing with conviction. "I'll fight for us. For you. If you still want me."

She didn't hesitate. "I do. I've always wanted you. Even when I was angry, even when I tried to hate you, I couldn't. Because deep down, I loved you, Adrian."

His breathing hitched, emotion overwhelming him. "Then let me prove it. Every day, for the rest of our lives."

She leaned over and pressed her lips to his, the kiss both a promise and an apology. A desperate plea for forgiveness and an acceptance of everything they had lost and everything they could still have.

As their foreheads rested against each other, breath mingling and hearts finally aligned, Adrian whispered, "From now on, there will be no more lies. No more walls between us. Just you and me. Forever."

"Forever," Celeste echoed, her voice full of love and conviction.

The darkness of the past melted away, leaving only the blinding light of a future they would face together.
