Epilogue

One year later, I was in the editing suite of the little blue house cutting our first movie. A micro-budget indie that we

co-directed, based on Dave’s script. I was so proud of us. I was writing Ben’s name in the credits; he played Buckeye. “You’re

the main character!” I’d told him when I offered him the part. “I kept my promise! Top of the call sheet!” I’d only been able

to offer him a small role in my first film—the romance—which was premiering at TIFF in a month. Andrea, aka Cassie, his new

LA girlfriend, played a young lion tamer in a role with only a few lines. I still had my apartment in the city, but I spent

most of my time in the county. Neve bought me a sticker with the letters PEC to put on my car. Next summer Dave and I are

going to get married under the oak trees beside the cabins. Marlon and Kate are already choreographing the dance.

Dave brought me a cup of tea, kissed me gently on the cheek, before going to get Finn for his weekend visit. He’d grown his

beard out a bit, and it still gave me a thrill to feel his strong arms around me. The other week I read Finn a bedtime story

and he said, “You know what Goldy, I love my mom, but I like you, too.” It was the sweetest moment. I was growing so attached

to him.

Sometimes after we put him to bed, we opened a bottle of wine and slow danced in the kitchen, with country music on low, twirling

around each other into the county night. Dave and I were slowly building a life together, and it was exactly the one I wanted.
