Chapter 9

Spyridoula

Ifolded my hands underneath my head as I stared up at the sky, my thoughts in a turmoil.

It had been three days since I talked to Ajax and there hadn’t been a peep from him, which only told me that he hadn’t pulled his head out of his ass enough to make this right.

And I didn’t know how I felt about that, honestly.

I was hurt, pissed, upset, and sad.

All were valid, and I knew this. Friends told me the same thing too.

Mind you, friends were some of the other ladies in The Network, and while they might not mind if I left, they wouldn’t wish me ill will. And a few ladies had their own issues with their men.

I sighed and sat up, a little upset that my beautiful sky wasn’t even calming down enough to get over this.

He had been plaguing my mind and I hated it.

I grabbed my phone and my pillow, wanting to go out inside, since none of this was making me feel better.

“Stupid men, why do they have to be like that? They could do whatever they wanted, but it was bad if the female wanted to keep doing what she loved. I enjoyed meeting new people, seeing different aspects of life, but that wasn’t taken into consideration, was it? Nope. Just assumed I might cheat.”

I kept grumbling even as I slipped my pj’s on, my anger starting all over again.

With a grunt, I climbed into bed, feeling my phone buzz and I grabbed it, making a face.

I groaned as I saw that it was the app; a request. I didn’t want to be disappointed, but I was really hoping I would hear from Ajax soon. And the longer it took, the more worried I became because it could destroy our friendship and that’s the one thing I didn’t want to do.

Not now.

Not when we were finding our way again.

That wasn’t something I was willing to lose.

I clicked on the app, read the request, then slowly smiled.

My finger hovered over the accept button for a moment, seeing this as his apology, but knowing I was still getting a formal one later.

Three hours later, I stepped out on the curb in a pair of jeans, boots, and a flannel shirt, making him smile.

“Well, I guess that works.”

“I don’t think you gave a dress code for this, or was I mistaken?” I asked, lifting a brow at him.

“No, I guess not. But this is fine. You look beautiful.”

He leaned over to give me a kiss, but I pulled back, making him smile.

“Guess I deserved that.”

“You think?” I tossed back. “Please tell me you’re giving me something more than this for the moment?” I crossed my arms, waiting. “Or I’m not getting in your car and going anywhere.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry for being dumb and acting like an asshole. You deserved better than that.”

I twisted my lip as I thought about it and his hands found my hips.

“On top of that,” he started, pulling me closer, “I really want to explore this feeling between us that you can’t deny is there. It goes beyond friendship, Spy. There’s a connection here, and you know it too. Don’t you think we’d make a great couple?”

“Is that what you think? That we’d make some type of cute couple or something?”

“You’re really going to make me work for this, aren’t you?”

I grinned as I covered his forearms with my hands.

“You’re damn right I am, AJ. Because you screwed up and you know that. But you want to think I’m going to give this to you easily or something, and I don’t know why.”

“No, you’re right on that. I don’t know why I’m thinking it should be easy either. And I really am sorry about that. I really hope that today, which is part work and part fun, will let you forgive me.”

“I’m only going because it sounds like fun. And I’ve never been on a date like this. So, my question to you, Ajax, is this. Do you want Spy, the woman? Or do you want Goddess, the escort?”

He tilted his head for a moment as he thought that over, and I could see the wheels turning.

If this was his way of an apology, I wouldn’t have asked.

But something was telling me that he really needed to see that there was a difference between the two.

That he might figure out that when people requested Goddess, I was not the woman he was seeing.

“Is there a major difference? Because it didn’t seem that way to me.”

“That’s the thing. It really is. I’m not the same person. I told you, role play is hot for me. And what better way than by being two different women? Maybe you should think about that a little more.

“I don’t have sex with them, but I never said I didn’t enjoy things later by myself. So, tell me, are you really so against me being an escort?”

“I don’t even know what to say to that.”

“Try not to. You owe me a date to this market. Let’s go, while I still make you grovel some more because that wasn’t even close to being done yet.”

He just shook his head at me, but a smile was on his face. I loved my job for more than just the money; it just wasn’t something I shared. And though I had dropped a hit once, it never went beyond that, and he never asked.

“You’re a dangerous woman,” he told me, making me grin even more, the very dimple that he loved popping out.

“Yeah, I might agree with you on that one, but the one thing I am not, is boring. So, take that as you will.”

He held open the door to his car for me, a smirk on his lips.

“I think we might enjoy this day far more than I thought. I’ve seen Spy, the friend and the woman that I enjoy far more than I should. But I guess I want to see this other side of you. This Goddess, that seems to make things far more interesting at times.”

I waited for him to climb in the car, a brow lifted.

“You might just be surprised, really surprised, I mean. I was a bad ass the first time you asked for me to join you on a date, Ajax. I wasn’t even really all her then, I was more the woman you knew. But now, this, be ready to see the difference.”
