13. Chapter 13

Spyridoula

“Ican’t believe him,” I whined, giving both people across from me a look.

Was it wise to have his parents here?

Probably not, but they were the only ones who would understand what I was going through right now. All the hurt and pain I was still feeling, even though it was now two weeks since we even talked.

I didn’t accept the request that night either.

But I sure as fuck was not going to talk to him.

This was his bad, yet again, and now he was stuck fixing it because I found no reason to. He wanted to be a douche, and I could not and would not give in.

“We know,” his mom said, patting my hand. “And you have every right to be upset. He acted quite childish.”

“He did,” I huffed, glad that she agreed.

“Not that I want to be the jerk here, but have you thought about it from his point of view?”

I glanced at his dad; my brow raised in question.

It actually wasn’t even me who called them, but once they asked if they could come over, I wasn’t about to say no.

I figured it was a great way to vent, but I was also starting to see that they weren’t here for me, at least not just me. They were here because supposedly their son needed me, but I stopped listening after that.

“What do you mean?”

“Spy, you’re smart, funny, and beautiful; a wonderful combination for any man. And the truth of the matter is, that’s kind of intimidating. I know I have a good-looking son, but he also is a nerd and landing a woman like you, who could have any man, is hard for him.

“So, add on that you’re still accepting dates when you’re with him is not okay. It’s hard on the ego. I’m not saying he had the right to be a jerk, because he didn’t. But he did have the right to voice something.”

“I’m not saying he didn’t, he did. This was also the second time. But I didn’t even get to say anything before he got the hot head.”

I looked between the two, slowly shaking my head.

“Do you think I’m in the wrong for wanting to work still?” I asked them, seeing the look on their faces.

“It’s not that it’s in the wrong, honey, but I think it’s not fair to get all pissy at him without trying to think about his side,” his dad said, giving me a soft smile. Which I was going to say he thought would help the sting be a little less. But it wasn’t, not really.

“I don’t think that’s fair,” I blurted out, shaking my head.

“Look, relationships are tough. We all have issues we have to work through and then we have to be with someone else and try and make it there. My son isn’t perfect, I will own that, but when he falls for a woman, he falls hard and will give everything to her.

It had to have gutted him to see that you might not give everything right back. ”

“That’s not even true. I’m not the same woman when I go out on those dates, and he knows it, he’s seen it.

I refuse to live off of him, and I don’t make enough money elsewhere.

Doesn’t he see how it’s not fair to ask me to give up doing something I love and need?

Doesn’t he see that I’m not the type to smooch off someone else just because we’re dating?

“Look, I’m not asking you to agree with me, I was just asking you two if he was wrong. But I can see now that you think I’m in the wrong.”

“No, Spyridoula, that is not the case, and you’re mixing up our words,” his dad firmly told me. “Actually, you’re acting like a spoiled child right now.”

“Frank, enough,” his wife said, patting his arm.

“Spy, you came back into my son’s life, and you gave him his writing back.

The block was gone and he was able to focus and write something incredible.

In fact, he’s done and it’s turned in for editing.

It’s the fastest he’s gotten anything turned in. ”

I chewed my bottom lip as I watched them.

“I’m not saying you have to forgive him, because this was a big hit, for both of you. But we are saying to maybe really think about it. You’re his muse, that’s not something he takes lightly. And it’s something you shouldn’t do either.

“We love you as if you were our own daughter and we don’t want to see either one of you hurting.”

“Did it occur to anyone that I’m just not ready to give up that life?”

His mom gave me a sad smile and nodded

“It did. Probably to him too. And maybe you need to think about that, and what that would look like to Ajax, huh? A relationship isn’t all about you, or him. It’s about the two of you together and some compromise.

“I know he doesn’t want to let you go, Spy,” she said again, reaching over to hold onto my hand. “And his apology needs to be big, but if you ask me, so does yours.”

I just watched her, not sure how I felt about that. Actually, his mom said the same thing mine did when I went to her and vented.

I didn’t think I was in the wrong, especially since I didn’t say anything, but maybe it was time I talked to him and the boss.

Maybe it was time to think about laying things out and really looking at them.

Maybe it was time to really give all to someone, to see what that looks like, and stop holding myself back.

I knew I was strong in so many ways, but I will be the first to admit that final thought scared the crap out of me.

That’s why I liked being an escort. I was the one in charge, I set the ground rules, and I had no chance to get my heart broken because it wasn’t real.

But Ajax, he had the potential to hurt me like no one else could.

He did, actually.

But they were right too.

Maybe I wasn’t so smart in my actions, and I hurt him just as much by not saying anything.
