Chapter 68 Daisy

Jim drove me to my final meeting with Blaze.

We were meeting at the house to complete the separation of assets.

That is, I was picking up all the crass jewelry that he’d given me, and my old car, which was much better than what I’d been driving around in.

I didn’t think the next woman would appreciate the glimmering crap any more than I did, and if she did, he could buy her fresh stuff instead of recycling mine.

Then, I was going to take it all to the pawn shop.

The only thing I needed was the car. Jim had made me take my old car to the junk yard before we left the city.

Blaze was waiting outside the house, thankfully alone. Molly had been increasing her efforts for reconciliation, but I couldn’t see her anywhere here.

Jim pulled up against the curb. “Are you sure you want to do this alone?” he asked.

I nodded. “I know where everything is hidden. But I’ll call if I need you,” I assured him. I wasn’t scared of Blaze. I didn’t feel anything for him anymore. He was my past and this was just me cleaning up the last tethers to my past.

I slid down out of the truck and walked up to Blaze. He looked beaten. His normally golden eyes were just a dull yellow surrounded by bags.

“Hey, should we do this?” I asked.

He nodded sadly. “Are you sure about this Daiz? I thought we’d be forever,” he complained.

I looked at him. His face was sagging a little under the strain he’d been under. He might have been actually achieving something Dad never did. He might be growing up.

“Yeah, I am,” I said simply.

“Your dad would have a fit.”

“I don’t care,” I said, then sighed and took pity on the man my father chose.

“I sometimes wonder, if Molly had ever left him, or if he had left with Lacey, whether Dad would have matured and been someone I could have been proud of, instead of someone I pitied,” I said to Blaze.

He looked at me. I reached over and patted his shoulder twice before stepping away.

“I hope that your next ol’lady is someone who can keep your attention away from free pussy,” I continued.

“I could try again with you?” he said hopefully.

I shook my head. “I’m not interested, Blaze. I honestly don’t care about what you want or don’t want any more. I wish you the best, but other than that…we’re done,” I replied.

He nodded, squeezing his eyes shut. “I fucked up,” he admitted.

I nodded back, then walked past him into the house. There wasn’t much here that I wanted. I probably could happily leave it all, apart from the car. I needed that now since Jim got rid of my rust bucket.

There was more jewelry than I remembered.

“Your mom gave me some pieces to give you. She also wants to apologize.” He took a sigh when he looked at my face. “Maybe I’ll give those to Amber instead. She deserves an apology too.”

“That’s a nice thought, Blaze,” I agreed, picking up my box of stuff, without Molly’s additions

He opened the garage for me and unlocked the car.

“Where do you go now?” he asked as I packed the jewelry into the car.

“I’m going to the hospital to get my roster. And then back home to Jim’s house,” I told him.

“What will you do at the hospital?” Blaze asked.

I smiled at him. “I’m a nurse, Blaze. I’ll be in the emergency department.” I closed the door.

“And Midwife? What if it doesn’t work out?” he asked.

I shook my head, before jumping into the driver’s seat and turning the car on.

“Jim has always been there for me. Since the moment we met he’s supported me, and I know he’ll be there for me in the future.

I trust him like that. I have no doubts.

” I put the car in reverse and eased it out of the garage.

Blaze stood under the garage door and watched me drive off, followed by the man he sent to replace him.
