23. Turk #3

I walk into her space, making her step back until she’s on the wall opposite of the door. She looks behind me but that nigga ain’t gone do shit. He showed his cards when it comes to her, and she’s as good as dead now that he has no use for her.

“He not gone save yo duck ass.”

She sneers at me. “Like you can’t save yo bitch–”

My hands wrap around her neck and squeeze, pushing her up the wall until she’s eye level with me.

“I always knew you were stupid, but this is a new low, even for you. Do you honestly think he’s gonna keep yo ass around as a slide?

That nigga will slit yo throat in front of G-Pops if Pay asked him to. ”

She’s scratching at my hands, trying to say some bullshit that’s got me chuckling.

“What? He loves you? The same nigga who made you kill yo baby right?” I lean in even more. “That nigga gone marry a woman who’s pregnant with another man’s baby, but made you get rid of his own.”

I drop her on her ass and she starts coughing all over my new shoes like the weak bitch she is.

I feel Grimey standing in the doorway as I crouch down. “Don’t worry about Melly, Ronnie, and Cece. I’ll make sure they taken care of.”

I stand up straight and walk back into the party without looking back. That’s always been my sisters’ issue. Playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes. Believing every Tom, Dick, and Harry that tells them whatever they wanna hear, to be left with a wet ass and two lines on a stick.

Bitch so worried about what I got going on, she don’t even realize her days are numbered. But fuck it. Not my fucking problem.

Unlike my cinnamon apple, it ain’t nothing for me to cut a bitch off. Just call me K Camp.

I walk back toward the couches to get Wyn, but as soon as the crowd clears I see her dancing on her nigga’s lap.

Cochise makes eye contact with me and lifts his cane, so I salute him and make my way out the party.

Being in the lion’s den without my niggas is making my scalp itch, and the way Rico’s moving around basically invisible, I’m not tryna blow his cover.

By the time I make it outside, the line’s gone and only the late fall breeze is around to keep me company. Geronimo Land is on the corner, but there’s plenty of businesses on this block, which makes me think it’s probably bustling in the daytime.

I’m halfway to my car when I hear a sharp whistle. Turning around, I see one of the Native niggas walking toward me. The one without the tattoo.

I walk backwards, keeping eyes on him until I get the the rental, then wait for him to join me.

“You bold as fuck coming here. I didn’t think Grime would let you leave,” he rasps.

I shrug, pulling a joint and lighter out my jeans pocket. “Apparently we got the same dad, so he not really tryna kill me.”

The nigga doesn’t flinch, stiffen, or narrow his eyes. His lips just twitch and he pulls out his own backwood.

“You knew then?” I blow out smoke away from us.

“He mentioned you once, a long time ago. But you know, outta sight, outta mind.”

I grunt, and we stand there for a moment, smoking by the car. I feel like he’s sizing me up, and when he opens his mouth, I brace myself for whatever.

“The Covenant–”

“I don’t really give a fuck about that shit. I get y’all was born in this shit, but I wasn’t, and I’m not finna let some archaic bullshit keep me from my woman and child, and the only muthafucka I’m sharing Pay with is Autumn. That nigga fumbled and one way or another he’s gonna see reason.”

The nigga nods and just keeps smoking, but I’m over this. I put my paper out on the bottom of my shoe. My phone’s off, and I know Autumn’s going crazy.

“Why not kill him?”

I arch my brow, making him chuckle. “I’m serious.”

I sigh so hard my shoulders lower. “I told Patience I wouldn’t kill none of y’all to be honest. She don’t wanna be with Grimey, but I’m sure she still cares about the nigga, at least enough to make me promise that shit. And I don’t wanna start lying to her. We kinda just got cool.”

That pulls another chuckle out of him. “That sounds like Fox. She used to hate being the only girl, but we needed that… balance. A woman’s touch… it’s why I didn’t drop Wyn when she got into her trouble, but that’s another story.”

“Ay, look out for her, then. Wyn likes to act like she’s carefree–”

“Yeah.” He throws his roach out into the night and glances behind him before leveling me with his stare. Even in the night his green eyes look creepy as fuck. “I’m already knowing… She’s next on the list.”

“Fasho. Well, uh, I’ma go ahead and leave now. I would say ‘c safe’ but where I’m from we say stay dangerous.” I chuckle low at my lame ass joke and open my door to climb in.

He grabs the door before I can close it.

“The Covenant explicitly says ‘A Beverly daughter and a Geronimo son must join.’ Contracts… there’s loopholes everywhere if you know where to look.

Give Shotta my regards.” And after that cryptic ass message, he turns and walks his lanky ass back into Geronimo Land.

And when I’m pulling into the dealership to change whips, it hits me like a ton of fucking bricks.

I guess it’s good I didn’t listen to my second mind and split his wig.
