Chapter 17

Clem

After returning to my house, leaving Whitney to enjoy her friends, we are sitting in front of the TV. I look over at Myles, and I have to ask, “You got the hots for Lee then, bro?”

“Well, she’s mighty fine. I liked her instantly, and you know she was great with Oren. Showed no sign of being annoyed at the million questions he asked her.”

“I reckon if you feel how I felt when I first saw Whitney then go for it. But try not to cause a rift with Whitney, ‘cause shit that would be bad. So, if you are going there just make sure it doesn’t end badly.”

Nodding, “Yeah, I hear you. I’ll see what happens during the three days she is here. It’s not long to see if she’s the one. But seeing you with Whitney, I’d like that for myself, and I’m not too embarrassed to say that.”

“How long do you reckon they’ll all put up with Oren before they bring him home? Or call one of us to fetch him.” I chuckle because I can imagine he’s getting plenty of attention from the four women next door.

We have a beer or two, and watch a program about the history of Ford, the automobile company. The door opens and Whitney walks into the house carrying a fast asleep Oren.

Myles jumps to his feet and takes Oren from her. “He is conked out.”

Whitney giggles, “He’s eaten, drunk soda, eaten some more. Danced, sung Christmas songs, danced some more until he sat on the sofa next to Lee, put his head on her lap and it was like someone hit a switch. He was instantly asleep.”

“I’ll get him to bed. Thank you, Whitney.” Myles quickly walks away carrying Oren.

“Okay, I’m going back now,” Whitney mumbles, but turns to me, grabs the front of my tee and pulls me down to her. This is the first time Whitney has initiated any intimacy, and it’s a kiss sweeter than molasses to me.

Whitney

Back again, we settle into our seats and enjoy talking about the town, our jobs, and everything in general. It’s lovely to get to know Rhea and Lou more, and I can see the four of us being good friends in the future.

“What are you both doing for Christmas lunch?” I ask Rhea and Lou.

“I’m at home with family, and I’ve just invited Rhea to have lunch with my family as she would be alone,” Lou smiles.

“Oh, that’s all good then. I was going to invite you here, but if you are all set, then let’s have a get-together after the New Year,” I suggest, and everyone agrees.

The evening is a success, and once Lou and Rhea have left, Lee and I go to bed. After locking up, I quickly get ready for bed and climb under the covers. An hour later, I’m still awake and sighing. Nope, this is not good.

I jump out of bed, throw a coat over my pajamas and after locking up behind me I rush over to Clem’s.

Climbing into bed next to Clem, I kiss his cheek as he sleepily wraps an arm around me and pulls me so my head is on his chest. “Had a good evening, Whitney?” Clem asks.

“Yeah, but I needed to be with you.”

“That’s okay.” Clem kisses the top of my head, and it only takes a few minutes before we are both asleep.
