Chapter 10
Marco
She never came home. I waited too. I waited for her until six this morning, when I passed out drunk. She never fucking came home. And that’s probably my fault. I shouldn’t have left her. I shouldn’t have told her she could find her own way home. Fuck! I’m such a fucking asshole.
I feel bad, as I should, but not bad enough to look for her. I’m sure she could find her way home, or I wouldn’t have left her there. She had to learn her lesson. She can’t go around doing the stupid shit that she’s doing. Not around here and surely not at a party like that one.
“You feel bad?” Hock asks as we sit with Davey, since her mom never came home either.
“She’s fine.”
“Is she? She might be in jail,” he tells me.
“Could be, but I doubt it,” I add. We fed Davey breakfast and lunch, but something isn’t settling right in my stomach with her not being home.
“Should we go look?” Hock asks when we hear someone coming up the stairs.
The doorknob turns, and a disheveled-looking Luna walks in.
She looks between me and Hock before moving straight to Davey.
She leans down and kisses him on the top of his head, ruffling his hair up before she turns to Hock and thanks him for staying.
He nods his head, and she walks down the hall toward her room.
I shove off the couch and walk behind her as she slams the door.
I shove it back open, but she ignores me as she slips her dress off and tosses it to the floor.
She walks into her bathroom, flips on the water, and then discards the rest of her things before getting in.
I stand here with my arms crossed over my chest and glare at her.
I get it, she’s mad and has every right to be, but she had to learn her lesson.
She isn’t crew and she isn’t going to be, as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve only known her a short time, but I know deep down she deserves more than this life.
After she’s finished, she steps out and grabs a towel, wrapping it around herself before walking into her bedroom.
“Is this what we’re doing?” I ask her. She still doesn’t answer and starts to grab her clothes. That’s when I lose it. I storm toward her, snatching the towel off her body and throwing it across the room. She spins around, anger rolling off her as she moves toward me, her fists balled at her sides.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? You fucking take me somewhere I don’t know and just fuck off? And then have the fucking nerve to be in my apartment when I get home?”
“Where were you, Chula?”
“Are you serious right now? What part of you left me didn’t you understand?” Now she tries to fight me. She throws her fist, but I catch it with one hand and lower it in front of us.
“Where were you?”
“Why do you care? You left me there,” she reminds me. She tries to pull her hand from mine, but I don’t let her. I keep a solid hold on her as I look in her eyes.
“Where. Were. You.” I say through gritted teeth now.
“A friend's house.”
“You don’t have any friends here,” I snap at her.
“How do you know?” She sneers at me. Luna rips her hand away from me and starts grabbing her clothes when I move in behind her.
I shove her down over the bed, lower my jeans, and pull my cock free.
Then I line it up with her entrance and thrust into her.
I need this. I need her, and I think deep fucking down she needs me too, however fucked up this thing is between us.
“Marco!” She cries out my name even though she’s still pissed at me.
“Did your friend do this? Huh? Can your friend fuck you the way I can?” Thrust after thrust, this girl makes my head spin. I can’t think straight around her. She makes me crazy, and she has to know that.
My fingers dig into her hips as I fuck her faster and harder. Each slap of our bodies together gives her more pleasure, and I can hear it in every single moan that falls from her lips.
“Tell me, Chula. Did he fuck you like this?” I ask her once more before slamming my hand down on her ass. The sound of my skin hitting hers just makes my cock harder.
“No!” She screams as I fuck her deeper this time.
I get so deep there’s nothing more she can feel except me.
And that’s exactly the way I want it. When I feel my balls draw up, I know that’s about to come to an end.
I reach around and find her clit and circle it until her knees begin to tremble, and eventually she comes for me.
I fill her as she moans and cries out my name.
When I’m done, I pull out of her and pull my jeans back up as I watch her go clean up.
When she comes back out, she’s already dressed.
I take the time to calm myself, if only slightly, before I speak to her once more.
“Where were you, for real?”
“I told you. With a friend.”
“You didn’t come home at all.”
“And? You told me I wasn’t going to, right?”
“That’s because you were supposed to be spending the night with me, not some other guy, Chula!” I roar this time. I run my hand through my hair, but she’s making me insane.
“You didn’t say that.”
“Why do you like to challenge me? Hmm?”
“It’s fun watching you get pissed off, Marco. Besides, if you wanted to stay the night with me, you wouldn’t have left me.” She’s right. I shouldn’t have left her, but she needed to learn a lesson the hard way.
“I’m not going to say sorry,” I tell her. She smirks over at me and shakes her head as she pulls her shoes on.
“Wouldn’t expect you to, but tell me why. Why did you leave me?”
“You don’t deserve this life, Chula. You deserve more, better than this. Being in a crew isn’t for you. It’s for the lowlifes who can’t go anywhere else in life. It’s for people like me.”
“Don’t do that. Don’t talk down about yourself, Marco.”
“It’s the truth. I’ve been in and out of jail since I was a kid. This is all there is for me.” I confess to her, throwing my arms out to the sides to make my point.
“What did you want to do? Before this?” she asks me and seems to be genuinely interested.
“When I was younger, I wanted to do art. Maybe teach a class.”
“You draw?”
“I love to draw. I love to paint. All that street work you’ve seen all around? That’s me.”
“You’re kidding me? The graffiti is yours?” she asks, unsure she heard me right.
“Yeah. That’s my outlet when this shit gets to be too much.”
“Why didn’t you go to school for it then?” she asks. I shrug and run my hand down my face.
“A lot was going on back then. My mom was crazy, my brother left, and my younger brother was dead. It was just all too much, and this was the life I’d known, so I went with it.”
“That’s sad. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I’m not.”
“You’re not that old, Marco. You could go back,” she tells me, and now I smile.
“I’m twenty-three. Do you know the average member of a gang only lives to be twenty-four?” I ask her. Her eyes sadden, and I can tell she already knew that fact. She walks toward me, raises her hand, and rests it on my cheek.
“You don’t have to be a statistic.”
“Neither do you, Chula. That’s why I’m not letting you be in this crew.”
“I need the money, Marco.”
“Then we’ll figure out something else. I don’t want this to be your end,” I tell her. I see the tears in her eyes when I lower my lips to hers. I kiss her softly and savor the flavor of her on my lips.
“Thank you for seeing more in me,” she whispers.
“Maybe it’s me who should be thanking you.”
“For what?”
“Everything, Chula. Everything.”
She smiles, and it takes my breath away.
I grab her hand and lead her back out into the living room, where Hock sits with Davey, still watching TV.
Luna releases my hand and walks over, sitting next to her brother on the floor.
He scoots to her side and rests his head on her shoulder.
I miss that with my own brother. I miss him getting close to me. I miss the times we shared.
There are times I can’t believe he’s actually gone, and I’m never going to see him again. Then there are times I think he has to be in a better place than when he was here on earth.
I stand back and lean against the wall with my arms crossed, just taking them in, and I stand by my words. She deserves more than this.
Shoving off the wall, I turn and head down the stairs to leave when her mom slams into me. I shove her off me and watch as her eyes come to mine.
“You fucking my daughter?” she slurs as I shake my head.
“Fucking junky.”
“I’m no junky! You’re a disgusting pig! Just like all the others. You’re only out for one thing!”
“Is that right? What is it I’m out for?”
“Pussy. That’s all men want is free pussy.”
“Go to bed,” I snap at her when the top door to the apartment opens and Luna stands there.
“You’re a piece of shit, just like the others. Stay away from her,” she slurs.
“Mom! Get up here,” Luna calls out to her.
“I’m warning you. Stay away from my daughter.”
“You’re yelling at the man who watched your son last night, so you might want to rethink your words!” Luna screams at her. She turns her head to look up at Luna and snorts a laugh.
“Out finding another cock to fill you?” she says to her.
“Yeah. Just like my mom.” Her mom stumbles up the steps, falling on her face as she goes. I move to help her, but Luna stops me.
“Let her drag herself up here,” she tells me. I nod my head and walk out the door, ready to get my fucking day started, even if it is a little late now.
