Chapter 10 #3

“You love me?” Kas questioned. His arms were around Yanna’s waist, and his chin nestled on her shoulder as they walked downstairs in the hall of his home.

They’d both woken up famished from their night of lovemaking, and Kas assured her he had everything all handled.

His only instructions were to wash her face, brush her teeth, and accompany him to his dining room.

Kas’ dining room was mostly unused and only had a dining table in it because Layla had insisted he get one.

“Why you always asking me that knowing full well what my answer gone be?” Yanna retorted as they entered the dining room. A gasp fled Yanna’s lips when she noticed the assortment of food scattered about the table. There were waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon and grits. “Ooh, Eats by Vee?”

“You know it. I shot her a text first thing this morning and asked her to do a last minute spread. Cost me a grip, but yo eating habits are terrible, so it’s worth it.”

“Boy, we literally have the same eating habits, but that’s neither here nor there. I’m about to crush all this food.”

Grabbing the remote, Kas turned on the TV perched on his dining room wall and turned to ESPN.

He watched highlights from an old football game while sneaking kisses on Yanna’s shoulders, neck, and face once she’d fixed her plate.

She melted into him, welcoming the feel of his soft lips on her skin.

It was as if the previous night never even happened.

Once again, the situation between Kas and Yasmine was pushed to the back of Yanna’s conscious.

As far as Kas was concerned, Destin wasn’t an important factor in their lives, so he’d already forgotten about him.

Moments like the present, the two of them snuggled closely in one of the houses, enjoying good food was the best. At least until the next incident arose that would have them cursing each other’s name and professing hate.

That next occurrence seemed to be imminent sooner than expected as the sound of Kas’ phone ringing sounded through the living room.

Kas pulled the phone from his pocket, and the caller id revealed an unsaved number.

Though the number wasn’t saved in his contacts, Kas seemed to recognize it.

“I’mma step out real quick, Yanna Boo.”

“For what?”

“Because I need to take this call.”

“Okay, so take it right here.”

“Man, watch out.” Really needing to take the call, Kas nudged away from Yanna. The nudge was subtle, but Yanna dramatically fell over, slapping her hand on the dining table.

“Really, Kasra? You push me so you can go outside and talk to some broad?!”

Ignoring her theatrics, Kas shook his head and exited the room so he could take his phone call. Yanna was fuming and talking shit while she watched Kas walk around outside, talking like his phone call was that important.

“Swear this nigga lucky I want my food, or I’d take my ass home. Stupid ass, I should—”

Yanna’s rant was cut short by Onyx waltzing into the room.

“Don’t be in here with all that arguing and shit early in the morning,” Onyx warned, ushering Troi and Kian in behind him.

“Onyx, go to hell.”

“Watch your mouth, cousin,” Troi added, teetering over to give Yanna a hug.

Kian followed, jumping onto Yanna’s lap. “TT!” He yelled gleefully, wrapping his arms around her neck and pulling her into a tight hug. Although Yanna was technically his cousin, he’d always recognized her as an aunt since she and Troi were more like sisters.

“Why you in here fussing already?”

“Because he gets a call and for some reason had to take his ass out the door to talk.”

“That’s because he’s handling label business. Calm yo ass down sometimes. Y’all ordered Eats by Vee?”

“Yep, but not for you.”

“Shiiid,” Onyx drawled, heading into the dining room. He grabbed a plate and started fixing himself a plate.

“How you come in here and do the same thing you be fussing at me and Kas for doing to Troi?”

“Because this my brother house, that’s how. Mind yo business.” Onyx mushed Yanna in the head to drive emphasis to his statement.

“Don’t touch me.”

More plates were made, and they enjoyed their meal together, discussing Troi and Onyx’s upcoming wedding.

They’d held it off while Onyx got the label up and running, but the big date was steadily approaching.

Place settings and flowers were discussed for the duration of their meal before Onyx announced he needed to go home and get dressed.

“Kas, go ahead and get ready so you can come with me to the label.”

“What? I wasn’t planning on going to the label today. I got to keep an eye on Yanna.”

“No, the hell you don’t. Besides, my mumma been blowing my phone up all morning. I’m going to run over there and see what she wants.”

“And where else you going?”

“I’ll probably just go---”

“Hell nah,” Onyx interrupted Yanna’s response. “Jaiyanna, don’t you answer that question. Kas, why the hell you clocking her every move?”

“Because she sneaky as hell, that’s why.”

“Sneaky or not, she ain’t yo child. She already told you she going to check in on her mumma and that’s good enough.”

“Whatever, Nyx.”

“Me and Kian gone get this stuff cleaned up before Vee’s people comes to collect her dishes.”

“Baby, you not gone come to the label with me?”

“Aww, you so clingy baby, but no.”

Onyx shook his head, knowing his fiancée was right about him. He wanted nothing more than to live in her skin 24/7.

“Yanna boo,” Kas called.

“Yes, Kasra?”

“Bring yo’ ass right back here when you leave yo mumma crib.”

“Nigga, take yo ass on somewhere, you don’t run her.”

“Ight, Nyx,” Kas replied, but as soon as Onyx turned his back, he mouthed to Yanna that she’d better return to his house when she was done at her mother’s. Yanna replied by giving him the middle finger before they dispersed, all preparing for their day.
