Chapter 12

CHAPTER TWELVE

“Yanna, how many times did auntie drop you on your head when you were a baby? I swear something is wrong with you.”

“Onyx must be right there because you fronting. So you trying to tell me that Tae isn’t fine?”

“Even if I agreed that he was fine, it wouldn’t matter because he don’t like coochie.”

“I think he like it on the low. Him and Tuson because he kind of cute too.”

“He alright.”

“Give me a couple minutes and I bet I’d unsassy both of them.”

“Yooo, your ass is dumb as hell.” Troi cackled.

They were on FaceTime watching episodes of The Influence Atlanta together.

Yanna hadn’t started at WCMG yet, so she decided to stay home and relax.

However, not having Troi live a few houses down from her was an adjustment.

She didn’t last long before she was on the phone with her cousin, forcing her to watch reality shows.

“I’m just being honest. Anyway, you want to watch Baddies next?”

“Hell nah, she don’t. Y’all been on the phone for two hours already. It’s about to be quiet time in this house.” Onyx cut in, taking Troi’s phone from her hand and appearing in the camera.

“First of all, it ain’t never quiet in that house. Dennis the Menace makes sure of that, and when he does go to sleep yo ugly self gone try to fuck on my cousin. That shit damn sure not gone be quiet. It’s not even dark outside yet, you so damn clingy!”

“That’s ight, my Baby like that shit. And I’mma tell my brother you on the phone talking about fucking gay niggas.”

“You know what happens to snitches, right?”

“Yea, but you can’t beat my ass, so there’s that.”

“Ugh, you really get on my nerves. I want my cousin back.”

“Well, you old enough for yo wants not to hurt you. Love you, but Baby got to go.”

“Whatever, love you too, big head.”

“Love you, Yanna!” Troi yelled.

“Love you too.”

“Wuv TT!” Kian gibbered in the background.

“Aww, TT love you too, you little terrorist. Bye y’all.”

Yanna disconnected the call and tossed her phone onto the bed.

Bored out of her mind, she decided she’d take a bath and maybe have a mini self-care session.

Heading into her bathroom, she ran herself some bathwater, pouring in her bath oils and salts.

Once the tub was filled, she turned on Brent Faiyaz’s latest album and stepped into the warm water.

Seated, she reached over and grabbed her iPad, pulling up the Kindle app.

Her latest read was by author Antoinette Sherell, and Yanna was obsessed with a character named Shabu.

She was fully relaxed and had gotten through a whole chapter of the book before her phone rang with an incoming FaceTime.

Since she knew it wasn’t Troi, there was only one other person it could be.

“Yes, Kasra.”

“Don’t yes me like I’m bothering you. What you doing?”

“Taking a bath.”

“Let me see.”

Smirking, Yanna panned the camera down, offering Kas a peek of her breasts. His teeth captured his bottom lip in appreciation of the way water caused her skin to glisten. Giggling, Yanna placed the camera back on her face.

“Damn girl, you almost made me lose my train of thought. Hurry up and finish washing yo ass then get dressed. I’ll be there in an hour. Wear something comfortable.”

“Wait, where are we going?” Yanna questioned, but was met with three beeps as Kas disconnected the FaceTime. “Bastard.”

She quickly drained the water from the bathtub and turned on the shower to properly clean her body.

After finishing her shower, Yanna padded into her bedroom, where she moisturized her skin then headed for her closet to pick out an outfit.

Still unsure of where Kas was trying to take her, she opted for something cute yet comfortable.

By the time she’d finished brushing her hair, applying a few layers of lip gloss, and putting on some mascara, Kas was entering her townhome.

“Yanna boo, where you at?!”

“I’m in my room. Stay in there, here I come!

” Yanna grabbed her purse and sauntered to the living room after turning out her bedroom light.

When she reached her living room and spotted Kas standing near the door, her lips curled into a small smile.

“Seriously? You want to be like me so bad, it’s not even funny. ”

Yanna had heard just about everyone in their lives declare how she and Kas were the same person.

She never understood where they were coming from because if you asked her, Kas was aggravating as hell.

However, looking at him standing in her living room wearing the exact same thing as her, she gained a small clue to what they were talking about.

The white tee with Gallery Dept printed in Olive green and orange, camouflage print cargo pants and orange and white Nike dunk lows on Kas looked almost as good as it did on her.

As if their harmonizing outfits weren’t enough, they were both wearing a custom gold and diamond-encrusted Audemars Piguet watch with WCMG engraved in the face.

Onyx had gifted one of the watches to Kas and Troi when the label first started.

Yanna being the brat she was, bugged Kas until he convinced Onyx to order her one as well.

“We the same person, how don’t you know that shit already?”

Unlike Yanna, Kas fully subscribed to the idea of him and Yanna being synonymous.

From the day they met, he’d detected how similar their personalities and mannerisms were.

In addition to their demeanors, Kas couldn’t help but consider the fact that they were born on the same day to be some sort of sign.

Both born July 16th, 1997, him at 4:52 in the morning and her following a few hours later at 10:37 am.

Emotional ass Cancers, who if you asked Kas, were deliberately crafted for one another.

“Anyway, where we going?”

“You’ll see when we get there. You got everything? Because you staying with me tonight.”

“Who said I wanted to stay with you?”

“Who said you had a fucking choice? Do you have everything?”

“Ugh, yes.”

“Bring yo’ fine ass on then.”

Yanna allowed Kas to usher her out to their ride, where he opened the door and helped her inside.

She wasn’t able to try to figure out where they were going during the drive because Kas kept her engaged with conversation or something in his phone.

By the end of their nearly forty-minute drive, Yanna was dying to know their destination.

When their vehicle stopped and the door was opening for them, she hopped from the SUV and looked around.

Her eyes instantly lit up, and a smile spread across her face when she realized where they were.

“You brought me to the state fair?!”

“Yea, I remember you saying you hadn’t been since they moved it out of Richmond, so I bought us tickets.”

“Aww Kas, you really do love me,” Yanna beamed. She hadn’t attended the Virginia State Fair since they’d relocated to the small town of Doswell. Before it moved, she and Troi went every year. Lately, she’d been mentioning how much she missed going, and apparently Kas had been listening.

“I’ve been trying to tell yo’ slow ass that, come on.”

Kas ushered Yanna through the ticketing gate and into the Meadow Event Park.

Instantly, the aroma of funnel cakes and corn dogs invaded their senses.

The distant screams of those bold enough to ride one of the pop-up coasters regaled through the air, mixing in with the bells and whistles of games as people lost a small fortune trying to win oversized stuffed animals.

When they passed through the entrance gates, Yanna rubbed her hands up and down her arms to generate some warmth.

Virginia was usually still warm that time of year, but it was like some sort of unwritten rule for the temperature to be at its lowest when the fair was in town.

The cold feeling typically dissipated after a few minutes of walking, however.

Hand in hand, Kas and Yanna ventured throughout the fair, trying to determine where they’d stop first. Yanna’s annoyance was growing rapidly because it seemed like every other chick they passed had their sights locked on Kas.

She tried to be understanding because she knew he was fine as hell.

In addition to that, being Onyx’s brother and his status as the industry’s next biggest producer made him somewhat of a celebrity in his own right.

Still, the constant staring was starting to piss her off.

As two girls passed whispering to each other, one of them giving Kas googley eyes, she could no longer contain her frustration.

“Damn sis, you want to take a picture?” The question was pure sarcasm, but apparently the girl hadn’t taken it that way.

“Oh my goodness, yes please! Getting a picture with Onyx’s brother would make my night.”

“If you just want a picture with Onyx’s brother, you can move around. I’m my own person and my name is Kas.”

“No, no. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I know exactly who you are, and I’m a fan of your work.” The girl pulled her phone from her pocket and held it out to Yanna. “Can you take the photo, please?”

“Girl, what the hell I look like? The paparazzi?”

“Come on, pleeeease?”

“Yea, Yanna Boo, pleeeease,” Kas followed up.

“Fine, hand me the damn phone.” The girl squealed, annoying Yanna even more as she skipped over and placed the phone in her hand.

Yanna snapped the pictures, not caring to capture the right angles or lighting.

She couldn’t care less about the aesthetics or how the picture would show on the girl’s Instagram.

“Here.” Yanna shoved the girl’s phone into her hand, adding a roll of her eyes to show her displeasure.

“Thank you so much, Kas. Can I tag you when I post on IG? I already follow you.”

“Yea, that’s cool.”

“Oh, and thanks for taking the picture.” The girl tossed at Yanna before sneaking a quick hug from Kas and scurrying off.

“Irritating ass hoe.”

“Aww, you jealous?”

“Go to hell.”
