9. The Lesson in Loyalty #3

I hope this letter finds you well. I don’t really know what’s going on, and I won’t pretend like I do.

But what I do know… is what pain feels like.

I know it because when I lost my brother, it was the hardest thing I ever went through in my life.

I know what it feels like to feel alone.

Like you don’t have nobody. Like you can’t trust nobody after you’ve been betrayed.

I know how hard it is to give your heart to somebody, hoping and praying they won’t break it.

I know those feelings. And truth is… I’ve been protecting myself from that kind of pain for a long time.

That’s why I never had a woman of my own.

Not until I met you. I understand more than you probably think.

The mental battles. The overthinking. The doubts.

The fears. Fighting your own mind every day just to feel okay.

I don’t understand exactly what you’re going through right now…

but I do understand enough to know you might need space.

So, I’m going to give you that. I want you to have the space to process everything, and at the same time, I want you to know you’re safe with me.

That I’m still here… whenever you want me, whenever you need me.

No pressure. No expectations. Just me… being here.

But if we never speak again…I need you to know something.

You were one of the best things, one of the best people, I have ever met in my life.

The way you give grace. The way you love.

How respectful, how intelligent, how caring you are…

That’s rare. And I see it. I know how to move forward if I have to…

even though I don’t want to. But no matter what happens…

I’ll always be here. I just needed to tell you this.

I love you. Just in case we never see each other again.

Love, Sincere

Kira felt the tears rise before she could stop them, blurring her vision as his words replayed in her mind.

He was so thoughtful. So intentional. So real.

Everything she had been praying for, everything she once believed didn’t exist for her…

he was standing in it. This wasn’t temporary.

This wasn’t for play. He was the real deal.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she picked up her phone, staring at his name glowing on the screen.

For a moment, she just held it there, her heart pounding, her chest tight with everything she hadn’t yet said.

Then she pressed call. The phone rang once.

Twice. He heard nothing but breathing coming from her end.

“Kira… that you?” His voice came through soft but alert. “Say something, baby.” Her throat closed. The words sat heavy, refusing to come out. All he could hear was her breathing on the other end, uneven, fragile. She exhaled slowly, trying to steady herself.

“Sincere…” Her voice cracked. “I’m sorry.” She exhales.

“I’ll tell you everything soon,” she continued, barely above a whisper. “I just… I just called to tell you…” Her chest tightened again, but this time she didn’t hold it back.

“I love you too.” And before her emotions could betray her any further, before she could break completely open, Kira pulled the phone away and ended the call, her heart still racing, her truth finally spoken. She ended the call feeling relief.

Kira felt a quiet stillness settle over her spirit, the kind that didn’t come from understanding everything, but from trusting that everything had a purpose.

She believed, deep in her soul, that everything happened for a reason…

and somehow, some way, it would all work out.

She had forgiven Chill. Not because he deserved it, but because she deserved peace.

She had even forgiven Jazz… for things she couldn’t fully prove, for things she didn’t completely know, but felt.

The kind of knowing that didn’t need confirmation.

The kind that sat heavy in your spirit and whispered truths your mind wasn’t ready to face.

And still… she chose peace. Because she refused to let it break her.

She refused to let it harden her heart or pull her back into a version of herself she had already outgrown.

Whatever had been done behind her back… it no longer had power over her.

Not anymore. Kira exhaled slowly, releasing the weight she had been carrying.

She wasn’t going to let this hold her back.

She wasn’t going to let anyone stand in the way of what God was doing in her life.

Especially not when it came to Sincere. What they had felt different.

It was pure. Intentional. Safe. The kind of love she had prayed for when she felt unworthy of ever receiving it.

And she was not about to sabotage that with fear…

or let pain from her past follow her into something that was meant for her.

“No,” she whispered to herself, a small but certain smile forming on her lips. She knew without doubt. She was destined for him, and he was destined for her. But peace… she was learning… didn’t mean the storm was over. Sometimes it just meant she was finally strong enough to face it.
