Ophelia #3
“Bullshit,” he says, stalking closer.
My heart beats out of my chest. His dangerous, zero-tolerance-for-bullshit side will always turn me on.
I bite my lip. I should tell him about Aunt Viv, how she was keeping the truth from me this whole time. But do I really want to drag my mother’s sister into this mess?
Lies aside, she is the only one who has been there for me. We grieved together, cried on each other’s shoulders, and yes, while she may be weird and have a strange approach to life, Aunt Viv is also the only family I have left.
Dragging her into the Crows mess makes this complicated, especially after David said she could fall…
Whatever the fuck that means.
Salvatore snakes his hands around my body, my blood already turning to steam.
He’s petrifying and so unbelievably powerful, and these traits will always turn me on, even when he’s mad at me.
In one swift motion, he removes my shirt, tossing it out into the room. My bra is the next item of clothing to go, then my denim pants and my lace thong.
I stand in his penthouse, completely nude, ready for him to use. But I know this won’t result in a happy ending.
Salvatore inspects my naked form, pinching my hard nipples, trailing his finger down my torso.
The finger disappears inside of my pussy. I gasp, clinging onto the finger, enjoying the pleasurable sensations while they last.
“Here,” says Salvatore, pulling up a chair from the dining table. “Take a seat and tell me what you’ve been doing.”
I dump myself on the chair, the wooden surface cool against my naked ass.
I whimper, desire running through me like an electric current. I clamp my thighs together, turned on by the power imbalance. Salvatore will always be my intimidating boss. While I struggle at the bottom, naked and helpless, he exercises power from above like a God.
We are similar in some ways, but polar opposites in others. And I love that about him.
“Open your legs,” barks Salvatore. “You will be rewarded when you tell me the truth.”
I open them on command, letting him see how wet I am.
“David approached me when I was shopping.”
“To say what?”
I stare into his emerald, green eyes, already feeling myself crumble. “He caught me having a conversation with my friend.”
“About?”
“The Crows. My friend already knows everything. She works at the same hospital Lenny Foster died in.”
Salvatore frowns. “Sapphire?”
“You know her?”
“I thought she was looking at me strangely,” mutters Salvatore, frowning to himself. He shakes the thought off. “How many people have you told, Ophelia?” He pauses. “You said something about your aunt. Is she who you went to visit today?”
I nod. “Yeah.”
Salvatore clicks his teeth. “If she knows something about the Crows, you should have told me about her.”
“And endanger more people?” I counter, shutting my legs.
My arousal disappears. Game over. Now I’m just plain angry.
“Innocent people are dying at your expense,” I tell him. “The Reaper is onto you. The more people I bring onto your radar, the more people get hurt. My Aunt Viv is the only family I have left, Salvatore.” I rise from the chair, grabbing my clothes. “We’re done here.”
Salvatore works his jaw, watching me redress.
“Of course, how can I expect you to understand what it means to have a family? You never even had one.”
“No,” says Salvatore. “But I do have you, and your life is at risk. If you are keeping things from me—”
“I’m not the one who is keeping things.”
Salvatore frowns. “You think your aunt is hiding something?”
“David said she would fall.”
Multiple muscles flex in Salvatore’s jaw.
“Aunt Viv said she lied to protect me but—” I choke on my own words, nausea washing over me suddenly.
“But what, sweetheart?”
I stumble into the table, the nauseous feeling becoming harder to control.
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine,” I say, rushing to the bathroom. “I ate something funny for lunch I think.”
Lie. I haven’t eaten anything, but I wish this was about food poisoning.
I lock myself away into the bathroom, the vomit shooting out of me before I can reach the toilet.
I clutch the sides, keeled over as I empty my stomach. Where the fuck has this come from?
Asking questions only makes the sickness worse.
I cough and splutter until my stomach is completely empty. Dragging myself up, I flush the toilet, close the lid and sit down, the bathroom walls spinning.
According to the tracker on my phone, my period is due in three days, but it looks like I might have to buy a pregnancy test instead of tampons this month.
Fuck.
A knock at the door jolts me from my thoughts. “Phee?”
That really is a stab to the chest. I don’t know what me and Salvatore are, but there’s a chance we could be parents. And I’m not ready for that conversation, or even to be in the same room as a pregnancy test.
After my mother died, all I wanted was to focus on my career and make something of myself.
But now there’s a chance the past is repeating as I step into a world of organized crime like my mother once did. And she left with a broken heart and a baby in her belly.
