Chapter 33
Chapter Thirty-Three
Ican’t believe he’s gone. Angus. I haven’t gone this long without talking to him, without having him handle every aspect of my life. I’m literally lost, and it’s only now that I’m realizing how much I relied on my best friend. I hope he knew how much I appreciated him, how much I adored him.
A lot of my senior staff turned up to his funeral, along with other CEOs who interacted with us over the years and respected him. He really was great at his job, but more than that, he was a great best friend. I honestly don’t even know how to go on without him.
“Miss Olive, I’m sorry. I need to get your signature on a few things if you have a moment.” A young girl walks into my office with a black folder.
After Angus’s funeral, I came to Seattle. I figured being in the office would be good. I was wrong. It’s worse, because I expect to see him everywhere I look.
“I’m sorry. Do I know you?” I ask, peering up from my laptop screen.
“I’m Jenny. Your temporary assistant, ma’am,” the girl replies.
“Who hired you?” I push up from my chair and stand behind my desk.
Alfie glances up from his phone. Every time I move to stand, he notices and is on his feet as well. He’s been my shadow this last week. Not leaving me for longer than ten minutes at a time.
“Um, Mr. Smith did, ma’am,” the girl says nervously.
“You’re fired. Get out of my office. I do not need nor do I want a new assistant.” I try to keep my voice as even as possible but fail miserably.
Alfie stands and reaches for the folder. “I’m sorry, Jenny. Now isn’t a good time. Let me take that from you.”
“I’m sorry, Miss Olive,” Jenny says with a shaky voice right before running out of the office.
Alfie closes the door and then turns and slowly walks towards me.
“If you need to yell at someone, yell at me.” He nods once.
“I have tough skin. I’ll also forgive and forget every horrible thing you say.
And you won’t feel bad tomorrow or next week for yelling at me.
” He stops right beside my desk. “But firing your staff isn’t going to help you, which counteracts their purpose here in the first place. ”
“I don’t need or want your advice on how to manage my company, Alfie.
If you don’t like the way I handle things, then leave,” I tell him.
“You know what? That’s a good idea. You should go back to Vegas.
Why the hell are you even still here?” I’m yelling again.
And you know what? He’s right. It does feel good.
Alfie’s lips tilt up. “Keep going. I’m sure you’ve got some great insults up in that beautifully smart brain of yours.”
“You know, you’re not as cool as you think you are. You walk around like your shit don’t stink, but guess what? It does. Also, you snore. And your dick isn’t as impressive as you like to think it is!” I scream at him.
“Okay, that last one is a lie.” Alfie smirks. “What else you got?”
“Argh, you’re so annoying.” I flop down in my seat. “Unlike you, I actually have work to do. I can’t just gallivant across the country to follow some girl around.”
“You’re not just some girl, Molly. You’re my fiancée.” He drops to his knees in front of me. “I love you, even if you did just insult my dick, which we both know you love.” He looks up at me. “Right?”
I laugh. “I love you and I’m partial to your dick.”
“Molly, be a good girl and tell me that you love my dick,” he growls.
“I love your dick, Alfie.” My eyes roll towards the ceiling and my head falls back against my chair.
Alfie moves closer to me, spreading my legs open. His lips press on my inner thigh, just below where the hem of my skirt falls.
“Good girl,” he says. “You know what happens to good girls, Molly?”
“What?” I look down at him as he kisses his way up my thigh.
“They get rewards.” He pushes my skirt higher. His fingers hook into my panties and then he’s moving them to the side, my pussy now on full display for him.
“What kind of rewards?” I ask, already knowing the answer.
Alfie’s tongue slides between my folds, slow and with the perfect amount of pressure.
I reach down and lift my skirt even higher, allowing my legs to open wider. I’m conscious of trying not to squeeze too hard. Alfie does have a healing broken nose, and his face is still sporting light bruises.
My fingers curl into his hair. “I think I like this reward,” I tell him as his tongue continues to lap at me, circling around my clit.
When he’s touching me like this, everything else vanishes. And he always seems to know exactly what and when I need him to give me that escape.
Alfie shifts his body, moving his free hand up, and then he’s pushing two fingers into me as his mouth sucks on my clit.
“Oh god!” I moan, gripping on to his hair. My hips start moving on their own, reaching for him every time he withdraws his fingers before thrusting them back in.
Alfie doesn’t stop his assault on my pussy. He increases his speed until I’m pulling at his hair, my body stiff as pleasure explodes in every core of my being.
When he finally stops licking me, I’ve fallen back against my chair, a light sweat on my forehead and in a relaxed state of mind. That doesn’t last long, though. Guilt kicks in quickly after.
“Don’t do that,” Alfie says, readjusting my panties for me. He pulls the fabric of my skirt down, covering my thighs.
“Don’t do what?”
“Feel guilty for enjoying something.”
“How?” How does he read me so well?
“I’ve spent hours memorizing your every expression, Molly. I know what you’re thinking before you even know.”
“No, you don’t,” I scoff. But I know he’s telling the truth. He does stare at me a lot. Watches for moments when he thinks he needs to ride in on his white horse and save me from my own thoughts. “You’re using orgasms to distract me from my grief.”
“I’m using whatever I can to make you feel good, Molly.
I know you’re grieving, and I understand it.
I know how important Angus is to you. But I can’t just sit back and do nothing.
If orgasms give you a temporary reprieve from that sadness, then I will happily make you come as many times a day as you will let me. ”
“Are you serious about getting married?” I ask, my heart hammering in my chest.
“Yes. Did your lawyer email you the paperwork yet?”
“He did. I signed it this morning.”
Alfie doesn’t linger over me when I’m working.
He gives me privacy and space to do whatever I need to do.
He also never complains about me being on my laptop late at night.
I’ve never met anyone like him, never dated anyone like him, and I know that I love him.
I also know I’m insane for wanting to marry a man I met just weeks ago.
It worked out for Alfie’s parents, though, and I don’t have anything to lose except a broken heart.
I signed the prenup agreement, which was very clear that I maintain full control over my company and assets previously owned, as well as any assets I acquire during the marriage.
Alfie will have no claim to anything I have now or in the future.
The smart, business-minded girl in me liked that agreement.
I didn’t work this hard to build this company up, only to have it ripped away from me in some messy divorce—god forbid.
I’m not going into this thinking it’s going to fail. I really believe he is the one. But I’m also aware that people change.
“Wait… You should know there’s a chance I could develop tumors like my mom,” I blurt out.
“I will love you in sickness and health, Molly,” Alfie says. “My love for you is not conditional.”
“I don’t want to become a burden to you.”
“Do you think your father looks at your mother as a burden?” he counters.
I shake my head. “He loves her.”
“And I love you,” Alfie insists. “Shit, I need to get you a ring.”
“I don’t need a ring.”
“Are you fucking with me? I need you to have the biggest fucking rock on that finger. Something that’s visible from space, so every fucker who looks your way will know you are mine, even the aliens.”
“We’re going to circle back to this alien thing. But I have an idea that’s better than a diamond if you’re brave enough,” I suggest.
Alfie has tattoos all over his body. I doubt he’s going to care about coming with me to a tattoo shop. We’ve also got each other’s initials scarred onto our skin. Whenever we’re in bed, Alfie’s fingers absently trace over that letter A just above my hip.
“Okay. Show me what you have in mind.” Alfie rises to his feet and holds out a hand.
