Chapter Fourteen

Miles

I arrived home from class early since my last one was canceled. Not one shoe was kicked off before Harper’s scent smacked me in the face.

Our omega was in heat.

That happened sooner than I thought.

I pulled out my phone and texted Lev and Rowan. Harper’s in heat. Get home now.

“Harper!” I called out and rushed to her room. The door was closed but through it, I felt her pain and discomfort. Our omega was in need. Desperate need.

“I’m here,” she said from inside the room.

“Can I come in?” I asked, knocking on the door.

“Yes.”

Inside, her scent was even stronger. Our omega sat on the bed, her phone open. She wasn’t in a fetal position or anything, so the heat must’ve only begun. My head was fuzzy and my senses were running on overdrive.

Not to mention, my wolf.

Mate her. Mark her. Make her ours. Care for her.

“How bad is it?” I asked our omega. No reason in dancing around the subject.

“It’s just starting. I thought this was a far-off possibility. That I would transition to these new meds and everything would be okay. With everything that happened to me, I feel like the most naive person on the damned planet.”

“You’re not.” I sat next to her on the bed and she perfumed stronger than before. “A heat is natural. I know you’ve come to look at it like war because of your old pack, but omegas should have heats. Safe. Protected. Intimate. Private heats.”

She put down her phone and turned to me. Her voice was strained. “Can you just hold me? I know I moved in here as a friend, but…”

“Harper, you’ve always been more than a friend. Let’s not pretend you can’t scent me because I can certainly scent you.”

I opened my arms and she scooted over, resting her head on my chest. “You smell like banana bread and cinnamon.” She laughed a bit.

“Hmm, that’s not so bad. I might have to make you some banana bread soon. It’s one of my specialties.”

She looked up at me with those bright eyes. My whole world had shifted and it revolved around her the moment I met her. “That might make me swoon, alpha.”

I chuckled. “That would be acceptable.”

Sighing, my omega snuggled in closer and wrapped her arms around my middle. “Miles?”

“Yeah?”

“I don’t want to be medically sedated for this heat. All of my other heats were for show. For someone else’s disgusting pleasure. I want this heat for me. To feel safe and loved and adored by an alpha or alphas who aren’t using me for profit.”

“You have to say it plainly, omega mine.” Yeah, I just called her that. She didn’t flinch. “We have to have your words. None of us will continue until we do.”

“Continue what?” Rowan asked, coming into the room. He sat by Harper and felt her forehead and then pressed a hand to her belly. “You’re burning up. How long has it been this way?”

Lev came in next. “Everything is prepped. We have all we need for you, Harper.”

She startled. “What’s prepped?”

Lev held out his palms. “I ordered some extra food and snacks. I’ve been stocking the freezer with extra meals in case…”

“In case of what?” Harper sat up. “Lev?”

He took a long breath. “In case you wanted us to help you through your heat, Harper.” He shrugged one shoulder. “An alpha can hope.”

She looked at all of us, wrapping her arms around her stomach. “Hope? You three wouldn’t mind taking care of me through this? We just only met.”

“It doesn’t matter. As far as we’re concerned, our pack belongs to you.

We hoped that you would allow us the honor of seeing you through this heat instead of taking medical sedation.

We want to be yours, omega.” I had to say it.

For all of us. Our omega was seconds away from a big heat, and I wanted our intentions known.

“I want that too. I want all of you to see me through this. It’s only been a few days, but I’ve been more cared for and taken care of by you three than I ever have been before.

” Harper’s eyes darted to the computer. She’d been doing her schoolwork on it, but I noticed it was now covered with a pillowcase.

Given what she had been through, no one could blame her for a bit of precaution. “But I have a big stipulation.”

“Name it,” Rowan said. “We’d do anything for you, omega.”

“No phones in the room. Not even mine. And I want that computer moved.”

Lev nodded to her requests. “Done. Phones, gentlemen. I’ll put them outside the room.”

I tried to get up to remove the computer, but Harper whimpered. Her wolf was speaking through her. Rowan stepped up. “I’ll move the computer to my room. Two minutes. Can I get you anything, Harper?”

Harper folded herself over and cried out. Sweat broke out along her brow. Her perfume filled the air. A heady scent. Tangy with a note of sweetness that dragged me down with it. Demanded that I surrender to its call.

“Yes,” she said with a breathy whisper. “Your knots. Alphas, I need your knots. Now. I’m lucid. I still have my wits. Please. Knot me. All three of you.” She grabbed the front of my shirt. “Please, alpha. It hurts so badly.”
