Chapter 67 Olivia

SIXTY-SEVEN

One of the agents in my office called me to cover a showing at the Lambert House, and of course, I was more than happy to get inside it. Our brokerage had a preview event, but I missed it because I had a closing at the same time.

“Who is the client?” I asked.

“I don’t have much information. Seemed young, but was adamant that this was private.”

“Probably a tech guy.”

“Or something.”

“Why do I feel you’re not telling me something?”

“It’s just a showing—not much to tell.”

I arrived at the house a little early and entered the code in the door. After shutting off the security alarm, I took a minute to explore the lower level while I waited. The pictures on the website didn’t do it justice.

The oversized Victorian had been meticulously remodeled. The amenities were modern, yet preserved the details I loved about similar homes. I looked out into the backyard, and it put mine to shame. The outdoor kitchen overlooked the pool and patio. I imagined hosting my end-of-year party here.

One can dream, I guess.

“Livvie.” Nate’s voice interrupted my daydream, and I shook it off. I had to be hearing things.

I turned when I heard footsteps behind me. It was Nate.

“Nate, what are you doing here?”

“Remember when I told you it was my job to give you everything you wanted? Even if you weren’t planning to ask me for it?”

“Umm, what are you saying?”

“I heard you talking about this house to another agent at your party. And I made it happen.”

“What? I’m confused. What are you saying?” My heart thrummed because it wanted it to be true. Could it be possible?

“I bought it. It’s ours.”

“Nate, there’s like seven bedrooms here.”

“We can fill as many as you want, okay?”

I nodded, tears filling my eyes. Disbelief warred with the reality of what was right there under my feet.

“You like?” he asked, eyes searching mine.

“I love.”

When he dropped to one knee, I realized that the house wasn’t the big reveal. And when he opened the box, I saw then how much thought he’d put into this. Nate knew me. Instead of an oversized, flashy diamond, the setting held a gorgeous blue sapphire.

“Livvie,” his voice shook with emotion, and tears rolled down my face.

“The night I met you, I told my mother I was going to marry you. I knew the second I met you that you were my future. I play this stupid ballgame for a living, and I’ve got a bunch of teammates.

But when it comes to my life, my future, you’re the only teammate that matters. Have I earned your forever?”

“Yes. Fuck yes. Shit, you’re not video-taping this? Who is going to see me swear?”

“Yeah—there’s a video. But just for us.”

I dropped to my knees, kissing every inch of his face before his mouth ravaged mine. “Nate?”

“Yeah?”

“Did you stalk my Pinterest page?”

“Not saying. But it’s my job to anticipate what you want.”

It was then that I turned and saw a small crowd on the front porch. Sophie’s face in the window, covered in tears. “Are we having a party?”

“I figured you’d like that.”

“Yes. But not too long, okay? We’ve got a bunch of rooms to christen.”
