Chapter 27 #2
“Maybe you’ll stay with me; maybe you’ll go with her…
” A mischievous gleam lights in his eyes.
“Maybe you won’t even have to choose.” Guys strokes my cheek.
“But I’m not going to jump into bed with you.
When I met you, I didn’t see some Aphrodite sexpot.
I saw someone who could very well win my whole heart.
I’m willing to let you break it if that means I still get to have a handful of real moments with you. ”
“That felt pretty real to me,” I counter.
Guy chuckles in a dark, seductive way. “If there’s another kiss, I’ll make it even better because I’m going to insist we get to know each other better before then.”
I almost suggest we get started on that right away. I’m willing to talk all night, if I can get more of that. But when I open my mouth, a yawn escapes.
“Let’s go back to bed,” Guy says, taking my hand. “Something tells me neither one of us will have nightmares now.”
I barely notice the third notification ping when I finally drift off to a deep sleep.
Guy kisses me on my lips and down my neck. Then he wanders lazily to my cleavage where he stops to flick a nipple with his expert tongue. I gasp and weave my fingers into his hair so I can hold him right there.
Long, elegant fingers fondle my other breast. But they don’t belong to Guy. These belong to Cait, and her face is fierce with lust. She looks like she could break me in half with all the things she’d like to do to my body. I plead with her to do just that.
While Guy has his mouth on one nipple, Cait moves hers to my lips to the other, searing me inside and out. I close my eyes as I moan, knowing I’ve died and gone to Heaven. But it gets even better when I feel both of them push their hands between my legs where they begin to—
“Wake up.”
I open my eyes to see Miko’s sleepy face looking down at me.
I groan and then sulk. “No, I don’t want to be awake! Let me go back to my dream!”
“Okay, I’ll let everyone know you’re not eating today.”
My stomach growls at the very mention of food, and I sigh. “Fine,” I say. “I’m getting up. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
Miko doesn’t say anything. She just turns around and walks out of the room, her mission accomplished. She must be as hungry as I am.
I run my fingers through my hair and straighten my chiton before putting on my cloak.
That’s really all I can do to get prepared.
We can’t summon our camp on board, so there isn’t access to any of the stuff I’m accustomed to.
What I wouldn’t do for a bag of holding or something. Too bad this isn’t Dungeons that’s a question. What does that even mean?”
“She says you’ll figure it out,” Alexander answers.
I shake my head. Much to my dismay, coffee doesn’t exist in Peripeteia, but if it did, I’d tell him I couldn’t decipher stuff like before I got a mug of the hot brew. Hopefully breakfast will clear my head a little at least.
I make my way to an area under deck that’s open to anyone.
There’s a table there where we’d eaten the night before.
There’s no way that ancient Greek ships were anything like this one, but I won’t complain about the game developers designing the one we’re in.
It’s almost like they knew real people were going to have to actually be in this one for a couple of days.
Maybe they did know.
As I expected, everyone is sitting down to eat. My mouth pools with saliva at the spread before me. Sylvia is an excellent cook, so I’ve been very spoiled by what she can create over a campfire. But this? This is something from a foodie review about a five-star brunch.
I rub my hands together giddily and skip over to my seat. Sylvia chuckles as I approach. “Well, someone’s excited.”
“Morning, sleepyhead,” Guy says, giving me a crooked smile. “Did you have pleasant dreams?”
Scoundrel. He knows exactly why I slept in.
“They got better,” I say. “You?”
“Very enjoyable,” he replies with a wink.
Cait doesn’t look up from the food she’s shifting around on her plate. “I had all these nightmares,” she says. “About Tara…”
The mood darkens immediately.
“Yeah,” Sylvia says. “Me, too. I just can’t believe she did that. She and I met my third day here. We’ve been close for months.”
“Yeah, well, traitors are like that,” Miko says in a cynical tone before popping a bite of melon into her mouth.
Cait glares at her. “You don’t know Tara like we do. She’s not like this.”
Miko swallows and looks Cait straight in the eyes, not at all intimidated by our fierce barbarian.
“When I got here, I had ‘friends,’ too,” Miko says.
“We promised to make sure everyone got their deity’s quests done while helping each other with the main storyline.
We were all so chummy. But then Hekate gave me that quest to kill a giant, and they convinced me not to do it.
When my goddess punished me, they didn’t hesitate to call me a monster.
Who do you think were the first players to hurl insults at me until I wound up in the black space? ”
Jesus Fucking Christ.
We all stare stunned at her for a moment until I say, “Shit, that sucks.”
Miko rolls her eyes, but I see unshed tears glistening in them. “You think? Guess Aphrodite doesn’t care about brains if you’ve got beauty.”
“Okay, you don’t have to be a bitch about it,” I snap. “We could have just left you in the woods, you know. Guy didn’t even have to give you that grape. If you don’t want to waste time with us, go try things out on your own.”
Miko doesn’t say anything. She just works her jaw and looks down at her plate before continuing to eat her breakfast.
“This isn’t serving any purpose right now,” Guy says.
“There’s a chance we might come across Cetus today or tomorrow.
We should come up with a plan in case that happens.
” He looks at Cait. “You’ve been pretty effective with sea monsters in the past. While Joshua distracts him, I think you should hit him as hard and fast as you can. ”
“Sounds good,” Cait says.
