Epilogue
Thank God Guy saved all that money before I came into his life. There’s so much room in our new tent that he, Cait, and I can lounge about and cuddle. It’s even woven with silencing threads so that no one outside can hear a single peep from us. We’ve been relying on that heavily these days.
Last night was heaven, but we were up way too late. I’m loath to leave the satin sheets and greet the day, but it seems Cait and Guy have already left. So, reluctantly, I open the tent flaps and exit.
I sigh with delight at the sight of a bright blue sky and swaying palms. The Strophades are so gorgeous once you convince the harpies that live here to cash in on the tourist trade instead of attacking innocent people.
“Get your swimming clothes!” Cait calls out to me from my left. “Tara, Sylvia, and Miko invited us to go swimming!”
“What about Guy?” I ask.
Cait laughs. “He didn’t wait for swimwear. He’s there buck naked!”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
Cait shakes her head. “You should have seen Joshua’s face when Guy came splashing into the water!”
“Oh, my God!” I exclaim. “Okay, I’m coming!”
“Wouldn’t be the first time in the last twenty-four hours,” Cait says.
“Perv, you’re just as bad as Joshua now,” I tell her.
“I blame you,” she says and skips away to the beach.
I throw on my swim clothes and run into the crystal blue waters where everyone’s waiting for me.
Cait and Guy unlink arms so that I squeeze between them.
A song, happy and bright, swirls around us.
We don’t even need to kiss anymore. It happens with any touch, or even look, that reminds us of how much we love each other.
“I love you,” Guy whispers against my hair. Then he strokes Cait’s hair. “I love you, too.”
“Love you back,” Cait says. “Both of you.”
I kiss them both on the cheek. “Love you forever.”
And since we can live for eternity in the game, that’s a promise I can make.
