Chapter 10 The Northern Journey

I weighed the idea for three days.

In the end I rejected it. Su Chengyu fearing a fat girl who could dismember people without blinking was perfectly normal.

He had never done me wrong. He had never lied to me either.

If my father had admitted he sold us and never intended to redeem our mother, we would have chopped him up long ago.

Just for that honesty, I could not raise my hand against Su Chengyu.

I waited and waited until my chubby face wrinkled like a dog’s. On the afternoon of the sixth day, Su Chengyu and Song Dalang finally arrived.

Su Chengyu said the Ninth Prince had sent them to the border pass and wanted a cheerful maid to accompany them.

Just like that, I stepped onto the northbound road in a daze.

Inside the carriage Song Dalang stared at me curiously.

“Su Chengyu, this girl looks completely heartless. Can she really handle it? That is a job that gets people killed.”

Su Chengyu gave a soft snort.

“I checked. This heartless girl chopped her own father into filling in three hours.”

Song Dalang quickly looked away.

Su Chengyu told me my special talent of being stupid yet ruthless made me perfect for great deeds for the country and its people. Therefore he had changed my assignment. I would infiltrate the enemy as a Spy.

Me? A worthless grass-mat maid? A Spy for the country?

I could not untangle his words. I grabbed Su Chengyu’s sleeve and asked.

“What is a Spy?”
