Chapter 31

HANNAH

One year ago…

Liam caresses my cheek while he pushes his tongue into my mouth, our lips smacking together, the sound loud and wet.

He pins me to the mattress, his hot skin tingling my fingertips as I trail them down his muscled back.

He groans whenever my nails slightly dig into his heated flesh, while his hands find their way down to my pants.

Liam tugs them roughly down, discarding my favorite black workout pants across the room.

He must have removed my underwear at the same time because a cool breeze touches my core.

He flips us over so I’m straddling his lap, and his dick hits my shirt, but when I’m about to take it off, he stops me. “It’s just going to be quick. No need to get fully undressed.”

I hesitate, my fingers barely touching the hem of my shirt. “But you’re completely naked?”

“Because I have to shower after, so it’ll be easier,” he explains. His blond hair flops in front of his eyes. I told him before he needed a haircut.

“So will I?” What’s his issue?

“I’m trying not to argue here, Hannah.”

All the frenzy I built up has dissipated within seconds, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. “It’s me, isn’t it?”

“What? Hannah, look how rock hard I am. It’s definitely not you.”

“Then why can’t I take off my shirt?”

Liam’s facial expression turns sour, and his voice takes on a defensive tone when he says, “Honestly, Hannah, this is so typical of you.”

I get off his lap without being told, standing back near the wall by the window. “Typical of me?”

He walks toward the bathroom, barely looking over his shoulder when he says, “Making something out of absolutely nothing.”

His words sting, a blow to the chest. I cower closer to the wall, hearing the door slam shut, the hinges rattling from the force.

I can’t figure out what I did wrong. I can’t understand how my questioning led to him leaving me, pantless and confused. My hands are shaking as I look around for my underwear.

Maybe I overreacted a little. Maybe I need to understand it from his perspective and how he’s feeling.

Maybe…maybe it’s my fault.
