I’d been curious how April was going to respond to my Hall Pass line.

It had gone just about as I’d expected. I figured she’d feign surprise/anger, but there would be a glint in her eye. And that’s precisely what I saw.

Yes, it was a risky strategy, but I had to do it this way. If I kept showing up at the coffee shop every week, pretending to be Mr. Nice Guy, and slowly building up to asking April out, she would have lost interest.

She already had a husband. And he was her Mr. Nice Guy.

That’s not what she wanted.

She wanted a wild card. And I was the wildest of all wild cards.

So I decided to just be myself.
