Chapter 15

LUCY

We’d entertained the idea of many potential venues, even though we both knew where it would be held in the end: Lake Tahoe.

My parents had been married there. To them, it only made sense that their only daughter get married there as well.

Reid had been married in his wife Josie’s hometown of Denver, but that was a different situation. Josie’s parents paid for their wedding. Despite my parents’ wealth, Josie’s parents were adamant about paying for their daughter’s wedding—and they chose Denver.

My parents were footing the bill this time, so they were a little more hands-on.

I’d have been fine if we held it at the county courthouse and had a small reception afterward, but I knew that wouldn’t satisfy my parents.

They wanted something big, especially my mother. Even though that wasn’t my vibe, I did enjoy seeing how enthusiastic my mother was. She was definitely in her element, and I couldn’t take that from her.

And I guess it wasn’t so bad. Our house in Tahoe was extravagant, but it wasn’t exactly Paris or Rome. If they’d proposed a destination wedding, I would have put my foot down.

I could live with hosting the wedding in Tahoe.

In fact, over time, I came to love the idea of having it there.

My fears about Eddie had become almost nonexistent.

He’d been a great fiancé. He helped me when I needed it and knew when to let me do my own thing, which was usually when I was dealing with the wedding planner.

As an event coordinator/party planner, Eddie would have been within his rights to voice his opinion. Instead, he gave me space and let me do my thing.

My initial misgivings about Eddie had given way to excitement about spending the rest of my life with him.

I was bummed that my bestie, Nia Clemons, never came around to Eddie, but hey, you can’t please them all.

On our wedding day, Eddie looked like the most handsome man in the world.

He wore a white tuxedo with a black bowtie, per my request. The obvious choice would have been to wear a dark suit, but I wanted our wedding to stand out. And his white tuxedo accomplished that.

My bridesmaids’ dresses were dusty sage green, a color that went perfectly with the monstrous trees that surrounded our house and Lake Tahoe itself. The groomsmen wore beige and looked fantastic.

We each had five people in our wedding party. We could have added three or four more each, but decided to have a relatively small wedding.

Lake Tahoe obliged with the weather, and it was a perfect seventy-two degrees on the lake that day.

My parents were ecstatic, and my mother couldn’t stop crying.

There’s really nothing bad I can say about our wedding day. It was perfect.

The next day, Eddie and I left for our honeymoon in Fiji, and I couldn’t have been happier.

Marital bliss awaited.
