Chapter 72
APRIL
You’ve got to hand it to the media.
They barely wait for a body to get cold.
Less than twenty-four hours after I’d shot and killed Eddie Sykes, his death was the lead story on KTLA, the most prominent LA news channel.
“We had a murder in Santa Monica last night,” the bubbly blond reported.
“We have very few details, but the police believe he was killed late last night at, of all places, a Little League field. They found the body this morning, but haven’t released his name yet.
I’m sure we’ll have more details as the day progresses. ”
It’s funny, for my own husband’s murder, I turned down interviews and hoped to keep media coverage to a minimum. For Eddie Syke’s death, I was rooting for the opposite. I wanted the media to mention his wife and turn public opinion against her.
Shit, maybe I’d join some online forums, and say how convinced I was that Lucy Sykes had killed her husband.
Hahaha.
Just like with David’s murder, I wanted to give the LAPD other suspects.
Not that I was a suspect in this case, but if I made the LAPD spend all their resources looking at Lucy Sykes, it just meant they were less likely to look into other reasons Eddie may have been killed.
