Chapter 77
LUCY
The week dragged on like none I’d ever experienced.
Surreal was an overused word, but it fit perfectly for how I was feeling.
I’d alternate phone calls with my law firm to find out how the Winona Savage case was going.
I’d then get off the phone with them and call Remington Patton, who would tell me there was no update on Eddie’s case, which was ostensibly my case as well, at least until I was cleared entirely.
Which hadn’t come yet.
Remington told me that they were unlikely to charge anyone this soon without having the murder weapon. If it were found, things would change quickly.
“Well, I had nothing to do with Eddie’s murder, so I hope they find the damn murder weapon,” I told her more than once.
We did this little dance day after day. The cops gave Remington nothing, so she gave me nothing in return.
Even with my whole life in flux, the days were still becoming monotonous. I didn’t think that was possible.
I spent more time at my parents' house than I did at my own.
My mother would be close to tears when I told her I wanted to spend the night at home.
Truthfully, I did prefer staying at my parents' during this time, but there were a few nights when I couldn’t deal with it all and needed my alone time.
Before I knew it, it was Monday again and the dawn of a new week.
As it turned out, this one would be far from monotonous.
