Chapter 104

APRIL

When I originally planned this out, the ending seemed easy.

I’d park the car on an incline, headed toward the cliffs, put the car in neutral and give it a little push, sending Lucy and the vehicle to its ungodly end. But there were two things I hadn’t initially thought of.

One, I had to remove the handcuffs and duct tape.

Two, she had to be sitting in the front seat.

If the police found a handcuffed, duct-taped woman in the back seat, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t label it a suicide, despite the text to Lucy’s parents.

Luckily, I had a Taser on my side. I saw how Lucy’s body reacted both times I’d used it on her. She would not be a threat.

There was a chance the Taser might leave a bruise or two, but when you drop two hundred feet in a car, a few small bruises will be completely overshadowed by your other injuries. I wasn’t worried about tasing her too many times.

The plan was to tase her two or three times until she was rendered basically useless.

That’s when I’d set her in the front seat and unlock the handcuffs.

I’d then remove the duct tape, and finally, I’d toss her sweater and hat in the car.

I didn’t feel the need to put them back on her.

A fall from that high was sure to separate articles of clothing.

I’d then push the car—which would be in neutral—a few feet and let gravity take over. It would be on a downslope and pointed directly at the cliff. My guess is that it would take ten to fifteen seconds at the most until it went over the cliff.

And then, in the water below, kerplunk!

Just to be safe, I’d walk to the driver’s side door and push up against it, even though in the condition Lucy would be in, that was wholly unnecessary.

It was extremely quiet north of Malibu this late at night, but just in case someone happened to be driving by, I was going to light Lucy up like a Christmas tree.

It’s pretty hard to scream when you’re being pumped with multiple 50k volts.

I freaking loved my new toy.

We arrived at the inlet I’d decided on earlier that day.

After returning from Bass Pro Shops, I took a drive on the PCH. You could say I was location hunting. Hahaha.

I parked the car about thirty feet from the cliff, put it in neutral, and turned off my lights.

It was time.

My final murder was about to commence.

“It’s about that time, Lucy. You were a worthy adversary. Congrats on second place.”
