Chapter 106

APRIL

Itook out my Taser and walked around the front of the car.

My last few tases had incapacitated Lucy for several seconds, but I needed more time this time. I needed to remove the handcuffs and set her in the front seat, so it was necessary to disable her for a good twenty or thirty seconds.

So I decided to tase her flush against her body. She was defenseless on her stomach, so it’s not like I had anything to worry about.

As I opened the back door, I remember thinking how dark it was. As I leaned forward so the Taser would touch Lucy, it hit me that she’d switched over and was now on her back. Before I could do anything, her feet connected with me, and the Taser went off flush against my face.

The pain was like nothing I’d ever felt.

When I could feel it, that is.

I was going in and out of consciousness. I knew I’d collapsed onto the back seat of the car. I felt Lucy kicking me, but I was so out of it that I couldn’t defend myself. My brain and body weren’t in sync.

Finally, I started coming to. It still took several seconds to register what was going on.

When it did, I managed to block one of Lucy’s kicks, leap on top of her, and swing wildly at her face.
