Chapter 108
APRIL
What had happened?
My foolproof plan was no longer foolproof. I had come back to use the Taser on Lucy, and now everything had gone astray. I was fighting for my life.
And then things got worse.
The car had moved out of neutral. I think it had taken me a few seconds to realize it. I wasn’t all there since being tased.
When I noticed the car moving, I got off Lucy and reached for my door, but it was locked. That couldn’t be. I’d just opened it a minute before. I tried it again. Still locked.
Panic enveloped me. This wasn’t how this was supposed to end.
I was supposed to be on a beach, sipping drinks and spending my millions.
WHAT. THE. FUCK. HAD. HAPPENED.
At least Lucy was going to be joining me in death, but then I saw her get her door open. What in the ever-loving fuck!
How did she get her door open with handcuffs behind her back, and I couldn’t do the same with fully functional hands? Yes, the Taser had disoriented me, but that was no excuse.
I jumped back onto Lucy, intending to crawl over her and jump out the open door. But one of her legs escaped my grasp, and she kicked me in the face, which sent me backward into the other door.
To my astonishment, she made some indescribable gymnastics move, somehow rolling over and falling out the door. It was like some sort of prone cartwheel.
We made eye contact one last time before she fell out, and less than a second later, I felt the car careen off the cliff.
I was going to die.
No drinks. No beaches. No millions.
Just a pathetic life coming to an end.
I could have been so much more.
But it was too late now.
As I descended toward the Pacific Ocean, I tried to jump out the door, but the force of the wind slammed the door back in my face.
That was fitting.
Lucy’s vehicle hit the ocean a second later.
There was not going to be some miracle escape for yours truly.
I was dead.
