Chapter 51

Waiting is the worst part. Not because I can’t do it. Because I can. That’s the problem.

I stand beside the back doors of the first van, armed, ready, still enough that anyone who doesn’t know me might mistake it for calm. It isn’t calm. Calm is soft. Calm has space in it.

This is containment. Every violent thing in me has been folded down into one sharp edge, and all of it points in the same direction.

Olivia.

The lot behind the old auto building is dark. No bikes tonight. Bikes are too loud, too recognizable, too much of what men expect from us. Two vans. Quiet engines. Covered plates. No cuts visible until we decide they need to be.

Logan made that call.

Matteo agreed.

I hated it because I hate every second where I don’t get to move the way I’m built to move. I hated it more because it was right.

Shadow stands to my left, checking his weapon once even though he already checked it twice. Hammer is near the second van with Cain, both of them speaking low. Joker leans against the side panel, blade in one hand, wiping it with a cloth like he has all the time in the world.

Blaze is quiet. That says enough. He sits inside the van with one boot on the floor, elbows braced on his knees, gun held loose in his hand. No joke. No grin. No mouth running just to fill the space. He looks at me once. Doesn’t say anything.

Good. Words are useless until they tell us where to go.

Dom’s voice comes through the earpiece. “Alessandro’s linked.”

A second later, another voice joins. Smooth, accented, fast, with none of Matteo’s lazy amusement. “This is Alessandro.”

Dom answers immediately. “I’m seeing your feed. You’ve got gate camera, exterior north, exterior west, and transport tracker?”

“Yes. Nico is in position three cars back. No engagement. No exposure.”

Logan steps closer to the open van door. “Girls?”

A beat.

Then Alessandro says, “Delivered.”

Everything in me stops. Not my body. Not my breathing. Something deeper.

Delivered.

That means she reached Matteo’s house. That means the collar is off. That means she’s not in that van anymore. That means she is alive.

Alive.

I hold onto that word like it’s the only thing keeping my hands from tearing the van apart.

Alessandro continues, “A female entered matching Olivia Martin’s description. Collar visible. Ambulatory.” Ambulatory. Walking. Alive.

My jaw tightens. Logan looks at me. I give him nothing. If I let anything out now, it won’t go back in.

Dom says, “Collar status?”

“Matteo’s team is handling it. Delivery crew is exiting now.”

Silence spreads through the lot. Every man hears it. Delivery crew exiting. The men who carried her. Moved her. Spoke around her like product. Touched the van she was in. Breathed the same air as her while she wore their collar.

Joker’s smile appears slowly.

Logan points at him once. “Alive if possible.”

Joker sighs. “You’re taking the joy out of this.”

“Take it from the ones who don’t talk.”

That satisfies him enough.

Dom’s voice cuts back in. “Van is leaving Matteo’s property.”

Alessandro: “Nico has visual. Maintaining distance.”

Logan turns toward us. “Load up.”

No one rushes. That’s how I know everyone is locked in.

We move like men who already know what comes next.

Doors open. Weapons secured. Men slide into position without needing to be told.

Logan rides first van. Me, Shadow, Joker, Blaze.

Hammer drives. Second van carries Cain, Carter, Landon, Logan, and Jimmy.

I climb in and sit by the rear doors. No one argues. No one asks if I should be up front. When those doors open, I’m first out. That’s understood.

The van pulls away. Inside, there is only engine hum, comms, and breathing.

Dom feeds directions through the line. “Transport turned south out of the estate. Nico holding five cars back.”

Alessandro adds, “They don’t appear to be alerted.”

“Yet,” Shadow mutters.

“Yet,” I agree. The word is the first one I’ve said in minutes.

Blaze looks at me. Still says nothing.

The city slides past in dark pieces through the windshield. Streetlights. Empty corners. Closed storefronts. The kind of normal world that keeps existing while monsters move women through it in vans with clean paperwork and paid routes.

My hands rest on my thighs. Loose. Ready. I count turns without meaning to. Left. Straight. Right. Long stretch. Industrial corridor. Everything comes back to dead buildings and quiet roads where nobody looks too closely after dark.

Dom’s voice stays steady. “Nico reports van slowing. Possible destination ahead.”

Alessandro says something in Italian under his breath, then switches back. “They are entering an old warehouse property. North side gate. One guard visible. Two cameras exterior.”

Dom answers, “I have satellite layout. Sending to your tablets now.”

The screen mounted near Logan’s seat lights with a rough building map. Warehouse. Three entrances. Main roll-up door. Side personnel entrance. Rear loading bay. Possible office interior on east side.

Shadow leans forward, studying it.

Logan’s voice comes through the comms from the front. “Cobra, Shadow, Joker, with me on side entry. Blaze, Jimmy, rear with Hammer. Cain takes second team around west and cuts retreat. Carter and Landon hold perimeter once breach starts. We need as many breathing as possible.”

Joker makes a quiet sound of disappointment.

Logan adds, “Dead men don’t give names.”

I look at the map. Warehouse. Men inside. Five maybe. More likely eight to ten. Delivery crew plus handlers. Maybe storage. Maybe records. Maybe girls already moved through and gone. Doesn’t matter. We take what’s there. We rip the rest from them.

Dom says, “MC is ten minutes out.”

Ten minutes.

I close my eyes once. Not to pray. Not to calm. To see her.

Olivia in my room, laughing under me. Olivia with my shirt on. Olivia handing Remy back to Kya like she belonged in the middle of the clubhouse chaos. Olivia looking at me and saying she loved all of me, even the parts that scare everyone else. My eyes open.

The van feels too small. But the violence stays contained.

Timing. Targeting. Control. We turn off our headlights half a mile out.

The vans roll in dark, engines low, tires whispering over cracked pavement.

The warehouse appears ahead, long and ugly against the night.

One exterior light flickers near the side door. Too quiet. Too still. Not abandoned.

Waiting.

I read it instantly.

The guard at the gate isn’t relaxed. He’s bored, but armed. Different. He keeps looking toward the road. Not random security. Expecting something, but not us.

Good. Expectations can be used.

Hammer slows before the corner, letting second van peel wide. Cain’s team disappears into the dark.

Dom whispers through comms, “Camera loop ready.”

Alessandro adds, “Nico is past the gate and continuing as if he missed the turn. Delivery van parked rear.”

Logan says, “On my mark.”

The van stops. Rear doors open. Cold air hits. I step out first. Gravel under boots. Gun in hand. Silence around us.

Then Logan’s voice. “Go.”

We move. Fast. Controlled.

Shadow takes the guard before he fully turns. One arm around the throat, blade at the side, body pulled backward into the dark. No shout. No shot.

Alive?

Probably. Enough.

I don’t check.

Joker reaches the side door, picks or breaks the lock with a small tool I don’t care to identify. Blaze and Hammer move around back. Logan is at my shoulder.

The door opens. We enter. The warehouse smells like old dust, oil, damp concrete, and fear. Men are inside. Six visible. Two near the van. One near office door. Three around a table with papers, bags, and weapons laid out like they thought they had time. They don’t.

The first shot comes from one of them. Bad aim. Panic. It hits metal shelving with a scream of sparks.

After that, the world opens. Not chaos. Not for me. Targets. Distances. Angles.

One man raises a gun toward Logan.

I shoot him in the shoulder before his finger finishes tightening. He spins and drops, screaming.

Alive. Useful. Another lunges from the side with a knife. I step into him, catch his wrist, break it against the edge of a steel rack, and drive my elbow into his throat. He hits the ground choking, body curling around pain.

Alive. Maybe. Good enough.

Shadow moves through the left like smoke with teeth, dropping one man with a blow to the knee and another with the butt of his gun to the temple. Joker laughs once, low and pleased, as he opens a man from shoulder to hip without killing him. Not deep enough. Painful enough.

Hammer’s team breaches the rear at the same time.

The warehouse fills with sound. Gunfire. Shouting. Boots. Glass breaking.

Blaze yelling, “Down, motherfucker!”

A body hits the floor hard enough to shake dust from the rafters. Someone from the office fires through the half-open door. The bullet catches Landon in the upper arm. He grunts and drops behind cover, cursing. “Hit!” he barks.

“Stay down!” Cain snaps over comms.

Another shot.

This one catches Carter’s vest near the ribs and knocks him back a step. Brooke would lose her mind if she saw it. Carter snarls and fires back, nailing the shooter through the hand.

“Alive!” Logan roars.

“I know!” Carter snaps. “Shot his fucking hand, not his head.”

Blaze comes around the van dragging a man by the back of his shirt and slams him face-first into the concrete. “This one tried to run.”

Hammer says, “He failed.”

The man groans.

Blaze kicks the gun away from his hand. “Yeah, he did.”

A door at the far end opens. Two men bolt. Wrong direction. Cain’s team is waiting.

The first goes down under Cain’s hit, folded like his body forgot how to work. The second makes it three more steps before Shadow catches him from behind and drives him into a support beam. Blood sprays from his nose. He stays conscious. Useful.

I move toward the office.

Logan’s voice cuts behind me. “Cobra.”

“I’m not gonna kill him. Yet.”

The office door is cracked. Someone inside breathing too fast.

I kick it open.

A man sits behind a desk with both hands raised, face pale, eyes darting from me to the gun on the floor just out of reach. “I don’t know anything,” he says immediately.

I stare at him. Men always say that first. Like it saves them. I step inside.

He scrambles back in the chair until it hits the wall. “I just handle intake.”

Wrong thing to say.

My hand closes around his throat, and I lift him out of the chair enough that his shoes scrape uselessly against the floor. “Intake of what?”

His eyes bulge. “Girls,” he chokes. The word leaves him wet and thin.

I slam him into the wall. Not hard enough to kill. Hard enough to make the next answer easier. “How many moved through here?”

“I don’t—”

I slam him again. “How many?”

“Twelve this week,” he gasps. “Maybe fifteen. I don’t know exact. I swear.”

The room behind me is still loud, but the firefight is dying. Control returning. Good.

I lean closer. “Where do they go?”

He shakes his head.

I squeeze. Not enough to crush. Enough to show him how close it is. “Where?”

“Different hubs,” he rasps. “South. East. Private transfers. Auctions. I only get intake and temporary hold.”

“Who runs it?”

His mouth opens. No sound.

I squeeze harder. “Name.”

“Denton,” he spits. “Denton coordinates routes, but he answers to someone else.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

I believe that he doesn’t know. I also don’t care. I drop him. He hits the floor and drags air in like it’s a gift.

Logan steps into the doorway, gun lowered but ready. “Alive?”

“For now.”

He looks at the man, then back at me. “Good.”

The warehouse settles in pieces.

Landon is bleeding from the arm, already being wrapped by Carter with a strip torn from someone’s shirt.

Logan limps, knee twisted from taking a fall behind the van.

Blaze has blood on his cheek that isn’t his and a split across his knuckles that probably is.

Hammer’s nose is bleeding. Joker looks untouched, which means he probably enjoyed himself too much.

No one comes out clean. No one dies. Good enough.

The men who attacked us, who moved women, who touched the same system that touched Olivia, are lined up on their knees near the center of the warehouse.

Five alive.

Hands bound. Heads lowered. Breathing hard. Scared now.

Good.

Fear makes men honest if you cut away the lies fast enough.

I stand in front of them with blood on my hands. Not mine. Not mostly. My breathing is steady. No roaring. No shaking. No blind fury. This is better. This is what waits after control.

The first man looks up at me and then looks away immediately. Smart.

Logan steps beside me. “Five.”

“Enough.”

Cain drags the intake man from the office and throws him down with the others. “Six.”

“Better,” Joker says.

Blaze crouches in front of the man who tried to run. “You boys are about to have the worst fucking night of your lives.”

The man starts crying.

Joker’s smile widens. “I love when they understand quickly.”

Logan looks at Dom’s live feed on his phone. “Matteo has Olivia secure?”

Dom answers over comms, “Confirmed. Collar removed. She’s alive.”

The words hit the warehouse.

She’s alive.

Collar removed.

For half a second, my body tries to move toward the exit. To her. Now. But my eyes drop to the men on their knees. Alive. Useful. The path upward is here. If I leave now, I get her back. If I stay long enough to make them talk, I make sure no one comes for her again.

Logan sees the split in me. “She’s coming home,” he says. I look at him. He holds my gaze. “Let’s get them to the basement.”

My hands flex. Then still.

I turn back to the men.

Tonight… they start talking.
