Chapter 5 The Seventh Prince’s Birthday
Xie Fei and the male lead Xie Yu shared the same birthday.
The Seventh Prince was born an hour earlier, from a noble maternal family, favored by the emperor.
On Xie Yu's thirteenth birthday, palace lamps lit all night, and the emperor held a banquet.
All the celebrations were for Xie Yu, unrelated to Xie Fei.
I exchanged longevity noodles with System points. When Xie Fei didn't return, unease grew.
Following the System's reminder, I found him.
The pale moonlight diluted the dark shadow, revealing his blurred form.
Xie Fei lay on the ground, one leg broken, in utter misery.
"What are you? Not worthy to share a birthday with the Seventh Brother. How unlucky."
Xie Yu's subordinate, though not full siblings, greatly admired him.
Seeing him continue, I gritted my teeth and rushed forward, blocking the eunuch's stick.
A sharp cracking sound echoed.
I knelt, enduring the pain in my arm, trembling, "Your Highness, you've been away a while. The Seventh Prince is looking for you."
The Ninth Prince paused, then snorted coldly, glaring at Xie Fei. "This time, consider it forgiven. Next time, I won't spare you."
After they left, I hurried to Xie Fei.
"You lied."
I froze. "Yes, this slave used a temporary excuse."
"Afraid of his revenge?"
He was worried about me.
I reassured him, "The Ninth Prince's status is noble. He probably won't bother with a small palace maid like me."
Worst case, the System is here. I can't die.
Xie Fei stared blankly, then lowered his eyes.
In the original story, without me, he crawled back to the Cold Palace himself.
But who made my heart kind.
I took a deep breath and carried Xie Fei on my back.
Although my body was older, its quality was average, making it hard to carry a thirteen-year-old.
The arm wound hurt more as I walked, so painful I could barely continue. I raised my head to distract myself. "Your Highness, look, fireworks."
The bright moon hung high, fireworks blooming.
This sight was one I'd never see in the Cold Palace.
Xie Fei's young yet cold voice came: "It's for celebrating the Seventh Prince's birthday. How lucky you and I are."
For a moment, I felt like a thief stealing someone else's happiness.
I laughed lightly.
The path wasn't short, but not long either.
