Chapter 38 #2
“Please. Harder. I need you.”
My words were a hushed and needy whimper, shattering what remained of his self-control as one hand trailed to my thigh, lifting it higher and giving him a deeper angle as his hips snapped.
The sound of skin on skin was loud in the otherwise quiet bedroom, only drowned out by my gasps and moans as my back arched, voice growing hoarse from overuse.
His pace was both tender and brutal, as our faces held matching flushes and our hips rolled to meet the other. My pleasure climbed higher, sizzling down my spine and traveling to my belly as our eyes locked.
“I need to come inside you. I’m a greedy man and need to know you’re mine inside and out.”
“Oh yes, please.” I knew there was a slim to no chance I’d ever get pregnant, but his words triggered a visceral reaction—a primal need to feel him fill me.
“Think about that answer. Because if you say yes, I’ll want everything. You’ll be mine to love. To protect. And everything I am will be yours.”
His hands slid to my hips, gripping hard enough to leave bruises and tilting me so his next thrust pulled a scream of overwhelming pleasure from my throat. My entire body tightened as I struggled to form an answer, ready to fall over the edge and into oblivion.
“Yes,” I cried as my orgasm ripped through my body, crashing like waves around us. He threw his head back, the tendons in his neck standing out as he roared through his release.
As our orgasms consumed us, it felt like time froze, trapping us inside a bubble. My head throbbed with the need to breathe, but my body stayed taut as my orgasm continued, unwilling to give until every drop of pleasure was wrung from me.
His name was a prayer on my lips, a whisper of acceptance and love for what our future held.
Maverick buried his face in my neck, his grip dangerously tight.
But it wasn’t painful. If anything, it made me feel safe in his embrace.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I marveled that two people like us had found each other.
We’d had hurt and disappointment in our past but came out better for it.
And knowing what I did would only strengthen what we had.
Finally, I drew in a strangled breath, the oxygen feeling like sweet relief in my lungs as his arms loosened and he raised his head, pressing a kiss to my lips before gently rolling us over.
He somehow stayed inside me as our position reversed, and I rested my head on his chest, listening to his racing heart and panting breath.
I fit perfectly into the angles of his body as his grip tightened around me and his fingers traced my arm.
We groaned as his length slipped out of me and I felt his release coat my thighs. My pussy clenched around nothing, whimpering with the sensation of loss.
“Just when I’m convinced my mind can’t be blown, you give me such an earth-shattering orgasm I can barely breathe.”
He chuckled, his stomach muscles twitching as he pressed a kiss to the side of my head. “Keep up that kind of talk and my ego is going to get too big to fit through the door.”
“Would you rather I stayed silent?”
“Don’t get cheeky,” he said, pinching my thigh and making me squeal. I lightly pinched his nipple, making him hiss out a breath and squirm. “Okay. Okay. Point taken. Hands off.”
“A bit sensitive, are we?” I giggled, blowing a strand of hair out of my face and snuggling closer. He smacked my butt cheek, making me squeal louder.
“Of course, I am.”
“Good to know.”
The gentle hum of the ceiling fan lulled me into such a relaxed state, I almost dozed off and missed his next words.
“Thank you.”
I raised my head, propping my chin on his chest. “For what?”
“For this.” He raised the arm not around me, gesturing to us before letting it drop to my hip. “Us. For not giving up.”
“You didn’t give up, either. You came to the courthouse, showing me that what we have is worth fighting for. That it was more than heated words during a fight.”
“It is, Summer. It’s so much more.”
“I know. It is. We are. And I’m so glad we figured it out,” I said, resting my hand over his heart. He put his hand on top of mine, and I closed my eyes, basking in bliss.
“Me too. Because I meant what I said. I want you here with me. I want to start a life with you.”
“I want that more than anything too, Maverick. I love you.”
It had been a long, emotionally draining day, and I felt the first tendrils of sleep wrapping around my mind like a warm blanket.
In the light of morning, there would be more confessions shared and promises made, because we’d chosen to come back to life for one another, knowing we were better together.
The old Summer would have been filled with doubts, but the new one decided she’d already made a choice—finding this new beginning in the most unlikely of places, when neither of us were looking, and forging it into something strong and precious.
I refused to squander this gift with bitterness and mistrust.
“I love you too,” Maverick said, raising the hand from on top of mine to caress my hair.
We stayed like that, wrapped in one another until the creak of his bedroom door disturbed the quiet, followed by a low yip.
“What is it girl?” I asked Malibu, who trotted over to Maverick’s side and rested her head on the comforter.
“You can’t come up here. You know that princess. I’ll take you for a walk in a few.”
He adjusted us on the bed so he could reach over and scratch her head while her tail thumped on the floor.
“Aw. Let her up for just a few minutes,” I cajoled, leaning over his stomach.
“Just for a minute,” he relented. “I don’t want this to become a habit. She’s a bed hog.”
“I’m sure it’s not that bad.”
“Oh, it is, trust me. And why do I get the feeling it’s going to be next to impossible to say no to you?”
“Would that be such a bad thing?” I giggled, pressing a kiss to his chest as Malibu yipped her agreement.
“No, baby. That wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.”
