Prologue
Robby
In a dark room, you radiated sunshine with the widest smile and laughed the loudest. Over the loud music, I heard you.
Your voice was warm like honey and a dead giveaway of your Southern upbringing.
You were innocent, too. Too innocent to be at a frat house full of upperclassmen boys.
But underneath your warm exterior, you were sad.
Maybe scared. Intimidated. You feigned confidence, but I knew you were out of your element.
Because we both knew you didn’t belong there. Pushing you away consumed all of my self-control. You weren’t ready, even though I was. You needed to experience life before I took you for myself.
And it’s okay. Because I’ll wait for you my whole life if I have to.
You belong to me, Appa.
