CHAPTER 5
SHANE
TWO MONTHS LATER
“Jon! What are you doing here!?”
“Do I need a reason to come visit my boyfriend at work?”
“Um, when your boyfriend happens to work in an emergency room and you show up bleeding profusely, yes!”
“I miss you,” he says softly. And I melt, because everything this giant oaf does makes me melt.
My eyes narrow. “So you, what, thought another concussion would get you more time with me? It’s only been a day.”
“Thirty-six hours. That’s more like a day and a half.”
Sighing deeply and pretending to be exasperated, I pull Jon back to one of the beds and take a look at the cut on his forehead, just above his right eyebrow. As all head wounds do, the gash is bleeding pretty badly.
While I clean him up, Jon pulls me between his thighs. His hands slide beneath my scrub top until they reach bare skin. The heat of his skin on mine makes my knees weak.
“Behave,” I admonish him, and attempt to ignore the growing bulge in his shorts. He was clearly at practice when he got hurt. “You know, you don’t have to injure yourself to come visit me. I do get lunch breaks. Unless we’re crazy busy.”
“I’ll remember that next time.”
“How exactly did this happen?”
Jon cringes.
“Remember how you picked me up from practice the other day, and we ended up fogging all the windows making out like horny teenagers?”
Oh, I remember alright. I’m incapable of keeping my hands off this man. And when he’s in his uniform? God help me, I’m weak. He’s everything that makes me drool, wrapped in the sweetest, most caring package.
Jon smirks, because he knows I’m picturing how we kept accidentally hitting stuff in my small car while we pawed at each other. More than once, my ass hit the horn. It wasn’t until I accidentally turned the windshield wipers on that I realized how fogged the windows had gotten. I pulled back, panting, only to see that we had an audience.
Oh wait. Shit.
“Eric?”
He shrugs. “He got one lucky hit.”
I look around. “Should I expect him in here soon?”
“Nah, I didn’t hurt him. Physically.” His smirk is downright proud of himself. “He made himself look like a jackass, and all I did was palm his forehead to hold him back and point out that he was jealous. Because he knows what he’s missing.”
Shaking my head, I lean down and press my lips against his.
“I guess I should stay with you tonight…”
He nods emphatically. “Concussion protocol is very important.”
