Chapter 14

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The dull sound of water dripping on stone wakes me. I’m sure I’ve pried my eyes open, but I can’t see anything.

Am I blind?

I blink rapidly, trying not to panic.

I run my hands down my face, trying to rub the fog from my mind.

I’m dizzy and nauseous, my head is pounding, and I can’t remember exactly what happened, where I am, or how I got here.

The only thing I’m certain of is I was knocked out.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been knocked unconscious, but I’ve never felt this awful after coming around.

How long have I been out? I try to sit up, but regret that decision almost instantly.

A sourness builds in the back of my throat then spews out of my mouth.

I can’t focus through the haze in my mind.

Nothing is making any sense. I groan and lie back down, concentrating on the feel of cold, hard ground beneath me.

I roll onto my stomach slowly and press my throbbing head against it, desperate for some reprieve from the ache behind my eyes.

I can feel unconsciousness coming for me again. I don’t resist.
