Chapter 8MAVERICK
Chapter Eight
Maverick and Bella
MAVERICK
Her vanilla smell hits my senses as I breathe her in. I could very easily lose myself in this woman. The words just poured out of me a second ago, and I had completely forgotten we weren’t alone until my sister spoke and pulled me out from under her spell.
When she refers to herself as my wife, something shifts inside me, and a deep, primal part of me weaves its way in and takes over. Having my name behind hers and having everyone know she’s mine has my dick stirring in my pants.
I hear her breath catch as I lean close to her ear so only she can hear what I’m about to say.
“Once you become Mrs. Lane, I have so many things I want to do with my wife. You will be the first thing I taste on my tongue and the last thing that will ever wrap around my cock.” Her throat moves as she swallows, and my hand that’s holding hers moves to brush her center.
Her legs press together, and I grin against her hair, knowing she’s getting wet for me right now.
“I will own my wife’s pussy,” I murmur softly in her ear.
I press my thumb harder into her clit and hear a small gasp escape those beautiful lips.
“It will be your husband’s touch that you’ll be a slave to,” I breathe against her and watch goosebumps appear on her skin.
“Make no mistake, though.” My tongue darts out and quickly skims her flesh.
“I’ll gladly drop to my knees and worship my wife any chance I can get.
” I pull on her ear with my teeth before breaking away.
Taking a sip of my drink to hide my smirk, I watch her shift in her seat as she struggles to get herself under control. I love making her wet for me in public. If it were darker in here, I would finish what I started under the table.
She takes a big drink of wine, and I see her hand shake slightly when she sets it back down.
I try to join in on the conversation around me as our friends plan out New Year’s Eve, but all my thoughts go to the girl next to me as I count down the minutes until I can taste what I know is wet and ready for me.
We are waiting on the bill when Cole’s voice stops our conversation. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” he seethes between his teeth. I follow his eyes and see a blond-haired, model-looking guy walking this way. He looks a little hesitant as he approaches the table.
“Hi, Emma. I thought that was you. I didn’t know you were back in town.”
I see Emma stiffen when she notices him. Noah immediately picks up on it and sits up straighter as he locks eyes on the guy.
“Tyler.” She nods her head at him, and there is no mistaking the dislike on her face. Noah’s fist clenches, and Travis and I both go on alert and lean forward. “We came up for the holidays.”
“What do you want, Ty?” Skye’s annoyed voice causes him to look her way.
“I just wanted to say hi and see how she was doing?”
“My wife is doing just fine.” Noah stares him down, and I see Emma place her hand on his arm. “Tyler, is it?”
He nods and glances nervously at Emma before meeting Noah’s heated stare.
“You wouldn’t happen to be the Tyler my wife was telling me about, would you? The ex-boyfriend who cheated on her while she was still grieving her parents’ death? I mean, surely that’s not you because what kind of asshole does that?”
What the fuck? He’s Emma’s ex-boyfriend? I see Sophia and Bella stare at each other wide-eyed as Skye stifles a laugh. She’s clearly enjoying how uncomfortable Tyler is right now.
“This was a bad idea. I should go,” he mutters and nervously rubs the back of his neck. He starts to leave but hesitates before meeting Emma’s eyes. “You seem happy, Emma. I’m glad you found what you were looking for.” His eyes flick to Noah’s before landing on hers again.
“I’m very happy. I have everything I’ve ever wanted.” She grabs Noah’s hand, and I see some of the tension leave his body.
I can tell Tyler wants to say more, but he wisely keeps his mouth shut and turns to go.
“Hey, Tyler,” Skye stops him, and he turns around. “How’s your nose? It only looks slightly bent from this angle, so I guess you got lucky.”
Cole chokes on his drink, and Noah chuckles softly.
Tyler touches his nose as if he’s checking to see if it’s bent, and Travis and I can’t keep the grin off our faces. He gives Skye an annoyed look before walking off and heading to the doors.
“I can’t believe you mentioned his nose, Skye,” Emma laughs.
“The asshole deserved it. I bet he will spend the next hour looking at every angle in the mirror,” she giggles.
“Okay, this I’ve got to hear. What’s up with the nose?” Sophia asks.
“That was Tyler, my ex. I walked into our apartment one day and caught him with his head between one of his coworker’s legs.
I grabbed the first thing I could find when his head popped up in surprise…
a hardback book sitting on the table. I threw it at him, hitting him straight in the nose.
Blood sprayed everywhere, and the girl started screaming when some of it landed on her naked body. ”
“It gets better,” Skye laughs, and Emma grins at Noah.
“Without knowing it at the time, it was Noah’s book that I threw at him,” she laughs.
“The irony of it all,” Skye wipes away her tears as her body shakes with laughter.
“That’s the best damn thing I’ve ever heard,” Travis chuckles.
“I hope it was the biggest one in the series,” I grin at Noah.
“It was,” Emma giggles through her tears.
The waiter returns with our check, and our laughter finally dies down.
“Are you good, Noah?” I look at my best friend and notice he’s still a bit tense.
“Yeah, I’m good. I’m not going to lie, though. It was hard as fuck not to punch him in the face. I’ve been wanting to do it since the moment she told me what he did.”
“I’m pretty sure, judging by the look on his face, he thought you were going to do it,” Bell glances at Noah with sympathy in her eyes. “You did the right thing, though. Emma’s pregnant and doesn’t need the stress even though he deserved a punch to the face.”
“That’s what stopped me.” Noah looks down at Emma as she leans against him, lying her head on his chest.
“He’s not worth it. Everything that happened led me to you, and that’s all that matters.” I hear Emma say softly.
“It’s all that matters,” Noah agrees and kisses her hair.
As we walk out of the restaurant, Noah tosses me the keys to his truck. Grinning, I catch them as the boys give me a knowing look. I’ve had this night planned out for months, and with everyone’s help, we pulled it off without Bell having a clue.
“We will see you both tomorrow. Have fun tonight, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Sophia laughs and hugs a confused Bell.
“What are you talking about?” She laughs when Emma and Skye excitedly hug her next. She looks around at all our grinning faces and lands on me with a raised eyebrow.
“What are you up to?”
“I’m kidnapping my fiancé for the night.” I grin and take the overnight bag Travis grabbed from his rental.
“I packed for you while you showered this morning,” Sophia grins. “The girls and I bought something extra that we slipped in there for you because tonight is not a night for flannel.”
“Now I’m really worried,” Bell laughs.
“You will love it, I promise. Noah and I went last year, and it’s amazing.” Emma steals a glance at her husband and blushes at the memory.
They say their goodbyes, and I open the door for Bell as she climbs into the truck.
“Do I get a hint?” She asks as I start the truck engine.
“Nope,” I grin and head in the opposite direction of our friends as we pull out of the parking lot.
“How long have you been planning this?” I hear the excitement in her voice and glance over at her.
She looks so adorable as she peers out the window, trying to figure out where we are going.
We came straight from the slopes so she’s still wearing her leggings and winter boots.
Her blond waves hang down around her white snow jacket with a matching beanie.
“A while.” I focus back on the road as we leave the downtown area and go further into the mountains. I hear her seatbelt unclick and watch her scoot to the middle before she fastens herself back in. Her warm body snuggles against mine as I put my arm around her.
“Thank you.”
“You haven’t even seen where I’m taking you yet,” I chuckle.
“I don’t have to. I already know I’m going to love it because you took the time to plan it for me.”
“What if it involves snakes?” She lifts her head and studies me. I know it’s the one thing she’s afraid of.
“It doesn’t,” she shakes her head and decides. “You want to see what the girls picked out for me to wear, and you wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that.”
“You’re right,” I laugh. “That is something I would never jeopardize.”
I see the sign for the campground and turn onto the snow-packed road.
“We are going camping?” She eyes me warily and looks out the window. “It’s freezing out.”
“I thought you liked camping?” I pretend to be confused as I wind deeper into the forest.
“I love camping…in warmer weather. We are going to freeze to death.”
“I’ll keep you warm with my body heat.” She looks so confused, and I have to fight to keep a straight face. I start seeing numbers listed on signs that lead to private campsites.
When I see number eleven, I pull off into the narrow path and follow it further into the woods.
We eventually come to a clearing with a white dome tent nestled back on a ledge overlooking the mountains.
The sun has long set, so the only light comes from the flickering flames of the fire in the tent.
I asked them to prep our tent and have the fire going ahead of time.
I wanted Bell to get the full beauty of the place when we arrived.
“We’re glamping?” She stares in awe at the beautiful lit-up dome. She jumps out of the truck, and I follow her as she takes in the place. “I’ve always wanted to do this,” she whispers.
“I know. It’s on your bucket list, and you’ve been working so hard on planning our wedding that I wanted to do something special for y..” My last word is cut off as she leaps into my arms. Chuckling, I hold her as she wraps her arms around me and grasps my face with her hands.
“I love you so much, Maverick Alexander Lane.”
“I love you too, Isabella Maya Bennett.”
She leans down to kiss me, and I immediately welcome her beautiful lips.
If I could feel one thing for the rest of my life, it would be the feel of her in my arms. Nothing has ever felt so right.
She feels like home and everything good in life at the same time.
I’m a better person just being in her presence.
Pulling back, she beams at me. “Let’s go see the inside. I can’t wait to see what it looks like. I’ve only seen these in pictures.” I set her down and chuckle at her enthusiasm as I get our bag out of the truck.
The snow is crisp under our feet as we make our way to the entrance. We pass two Adirondack chairs next to a firepit as we walk the lighted walkway to the door. I press in the keycode that the owner gave and follow her inside.
I hear her gasp as she stares wide-eyed at our surroundings.
The pictures on the website don’t do it justice.
White fur rugs are scattered throughout the wooden floor.
There is a small kitchen in the far back corner with a small island and two bar stools for eating meals.
Most of the dome is covered in white curtains, allowing privacy when needed, but also allows the curtains to be tied back for a three-sixty view when desired.
A big king-size bed sits in the middle, facing the front of the dome.
I was told this dome had the best view of the sunrise in the morning, and that’s why I wanted it.
Sunrises have always been our special thing together.
The curtains are pulled back in this area, and I can’t imagine how beautiful the view will be with the first rays of light hitting the mountains in the morning.
A small fireplace sits next to the bed, and beyond that is a big standing tub, allowing the heat from the fireplace to warm you in both areas.
“Mav, look.” I glance back at Bell and see her lying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. “Stars,” she whispers in awe.
I lie down next to her and realize the entire top of the dome is clear, giving us a full view of the night sky. Smiling, I reach for her hand and stare at all the constellations. I immediately see ours, and I can tell she saw it, too, by the way she is grinning.
“It’s beautiful,” she breathes. “This whole place is absolutely breathtaking.” She squeals excitedly and straddles me.
“This view is even more breathtaking.” I see the red appear on her cheeks at my compliment. My hands run along her black leggings, covering her thighs before landing on her perfect ass.
“So is mine,” she says softly. “Why don’t you pour us a glass of that Prosecco I saw chilling on the countertop while I freshen up a bit?
” Her breath caresses my skin, sending a wave of heat through my body.
Feeling her lips touch my neck, I dig my fingers deeper into her flesh, pressing her against me further.
“I need to get out of these ski clothes and into something more comfortable,” she whispers in my ear.
“As much as I love this sexy ski bunny look you have going on, I agree with you. You are wearing entirely too many layers.”
“Let’s see what the girls packed for me,” she grins, kicking her leg over me before getting off the bed. I throw my arm over my eyes and hear her giggle when she sees the state my body is in. I’m straining hard against my black pants, and there is no mistaking how much my body wants her right now.
“I may need a minute before I can move,” I mumble, willing my body to relax. She giggles again, and the sound makes me harder.
“You have two seconds to get that gorgeous ass of yours in the bathroom before I haul you back in bed and start ripping all those clothes off.” My voice is low and dangerously close to giving in to what my body wants.
Another small giggle escapes as she grabs the bag from the floor and runs to the bathroom.
I hear the water turn on and listen to her move around in there.
I have no clue what she’s about to change into, but knowing the girls, they probably bought her something that will undoubtedly bring me to my knees.
