Chapter 69
SIXTY-NINE
VALENTINA FERRARA
A woman never forgets her wedding day. And even though this wasn’t my first wedding to Enrico, it was the only one I wanted to remember for the rest of my life.
The white dress hugged my body softly, made especially for that moment, every detail carefully chosen to represent exactly who I was now.
It wasn’t just a beautiful dress—it was a symbol of the journey I had taken to get there, to finally reach the happiness that had once been stolen from me.
The veil, light as a breeze, draped gently over my shoulders, giving me the sensation of being wrapped in a waking dream.
I took a deep breath, my heart racing as I took my first steps down the aisle of the small historic church we had chosen together—a warm, meaningful place for both of us.
My fingers held the wildflower bouquet delicately as I walked forward. Each step brought me closer to him, and now I was absolutely certain that nothing would ever come between us again.
Enrico Ferrara.
The same man I had once loved deeply, lost cruelly, and who had now become the absolute center of my world once more. The man who fought with everything he had to win back every piece of my heart, proving tirelessly that he deserved my trust again.
Around us, friends and family smiled with emotion. There were no more judgments, no suspicious glances, no whispered doubts. Only happy faces, filled with affection and understanding, fully aware of how much that day meant to us.
But the moment I lifted my eyes and found him waiting for me at the altar, the rest of the world disappeared completely.
Enrico looked impeccable in a tailored navy-blue suit. He smiled openly, his eyes shining with intense, genuine emotion as he watched me walk toward him. That look said everything I needed to hear—without a single word.
My heart pounded in my chest, the wedding march playing softly around me, though I barely heard it. All that mattered was Enrico’s deep blue gaze, that smile capable of calming every insecurity, erasing any doubt still hidden in the depths of my heart.
He was my destiny, my present, and my future. And in that moment, seeing him waiting for me with such true love, I knew with absolute certainty that every painful step that had led me there had been worth it.
My father squeezed my hand tenderly, smiling with pride as he placed a gentle kiss on my forehead before handing me over to Enrico.
This time, when my fingers found the strong arm of the man I loved, he didn’t pull away.
Instead, he held my hand firmly and lovingly, intertwining our fingers as if promising never to let go again.
Enrico leaned closer and whispered softly in my ear:
“I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as you are today. I love you more than I’ve ever been able to put into words, Valentina.”
I smiled through emotion, my eyes filling as I lifted my face to his.
“I love you too, Enrico. Thank you for not giving up on us.”
He squeezed my hand gently, his eyes saying everything words couldn’t in that instant. We turned toward the altar, ready to begin a new story together—not a fragile fairy tale, but something far stronger, real, and unbreakable.
The priest’s voice echoed softly through the church as the ceremony began, and I listened to every word, absorbing every promise and every vow we were about to make. Because now, finally, I was certain that nothing would ever come between us again.
This time, it would be forever.
The ceremony flowed gently, each word spoken by the priest filling my heart with peace and happiness. I felt, at last, exactly where I was meant to be: beside the man I loved, surrounded by the people who truly mattered, our lives fitting perfectly together.
When the moment came to exchange the rings, my heart raced even faster. I took a deep breath, staying calm as the priest announced:
“To present the rings, we invite little Clara Ferrara.”
My heart overflowed as I saw her appear at the start of the aisle, graceful and delicate in her white lace dress.
A huge smile lit up her face as she walked carefully toward us, holding the small pillow with the rings—and an extra surprise I had prepared.
Enrico’s expression was pure pride and affection as he watched our daughter approach. Clara stopped in front of us and carefully lifted the pillow.
Enrico’s eyes fell on the tiny white baby shoes placed beside the gold rings. He froze, blue eyes widening slightly as he looked at them, then quickly searched my face for confirmation.
I couldn’t hold back the tears as I smiled at him and nodded, confirming without words what that small pair of shoes meant.
“You’re… pregnant?” he whispered.
I smiled even wider, tears streaming as I answered softly:
“Yes, Enrico. We’re going to have another baby.”
My IUD had failed, after all.
The smile that spread across Enrico’s face was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. The emotion in his eyes was raw and real—a perfect blend of happiness, gratitude, and deep love.
Without saying a word, Enrico knelt in front of me as a hush fell over the church. He placed his hands gently on my waist and, with infinite care, kissed my belly through the fabric of my dress.
“Hi there, my little love,” he whispered tenderly. “Daddy already loves you as much as he loves your mommy and your big sister.”
Clara giggled beside us and stepped forward, placing her small hand on my belly too.
“And I promise to share my toys with you!” she declared solemnly, making everyone laugh and grow even more emotional.
Enrico chuckled softly, touching his daughter’s face before standing again, his eyes shining as he looked at me, emotion fully visible.
Only then did he finally pick up the rings and continue the ceremony. His voice trembled with feeling as he repeated the vows:
“Valentina Ferrara, receive this ring as a symbol of my eternal love and fidelity. I promise to stand by your side in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, every day of our lives. And I promise to love you and our children with every beat of my heart.”
As he slid the ring onto my finger, I felt each word resonate deep inside me, the absolute certainty that the man before me was exactly who I wanted beside me for the rest of my life.
I took the other ring and looked at him as I spoke:
“Enrico Ferrara, receive this ring as a symbol of my love, my complete trust, and the certainty that there will never be another path for me except the one we walk together. I promise to love you in every moment, in good times and bad, and to build with you the family we have always dreamed of.”
When I placed the ring on his finger, Enrico squeezed my hand, smiling at me with shining eyes.
The priest smiled, sensing the depth of emotion surrounding us, and announced clearly:
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Enrico, you may kiss your bride.”
Enrico pulled me close by the waist, and our lips met in a kiss filled with emotion, passion, and a happiness greater than any dream we had ever dared to imagine.
Around us, applause and joyful cheers filled the warm church. Clara jumped excitedly at our side, and everything felt absolutely perfect.
When we pulled back, Enrico smiled sweetly, still cradling my face in his hands.
“Thank you for the most beautiful gift you could have given me, Valentina. I love you more than anything in this life.”
“And I love you, Enrico. Now and forever.”
“Now and forever,” he repeated.
At last, we had found our true happy ending. And there was nothing left in the world that could ever change that.
